Not many know that actress Sakshi Tanwar’s casting as Mahavir Singh Phogat’s wife, Daya Kaur, happened due to Aamir Khan’s mother.&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><h2>How Sakshi Tanwar was cast in Dangal</h2><p>&nbsp;</p><p>In a newly released video on Aamir Khan Productions’ page, Aamir Khan, who played Mahavir Phogat in Dangal and was also the producer of the film, revealed how Sakshi Tanwar was cast in the role.&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Aamir shared, “One day, I don’t know why, I thought of Sakshi Tanwar, I have no idea. Actually, Sakshi was my idea. My mom used to like her a lot on television, so I told Niteshji, ‘Should we try Sakshi ji?’”</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>Dangal marked Sakshi’s Bollywood debut, but she was already a household name by then, thanks to her role as Parvati in the iconic TV show Kahani Ghar Ghar Kii.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>For Sakshi, the offer for Dangal came as a complete surprise. Recalling her reaction, she said, “When I was told that this is the character, I couldn’t believe that this could also be a pairing.”</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Meanwhile, Aamir Khan heaped praises on his co-star and said, “She’s amazing. She’s a fantastic actress. You tell her small changes, and she understands immediately and gives it perfectly. It’s not only skill; she does it with a lot of heart.”</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Sakshi felt that Dangal happened by chance, but it was meant to be. “It just happened on its own, like different pieces of a puzzle coming together. One day, the universe decided to be generous, and I became a part of 'Dangal',” she said.</p><h2>About Dangal</h2><p>Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Dangal narrates the story of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, who trained his daughters Geeta and Babita Phogat to become world-class wrestlers. The 2016 sports drama, featured Aamir Khan, Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Zaira Wasim, and Suhani Bhatnagar. It went on to become a global blockbuster. In China, the film ran for 60 days and grossed over Rs 2,000 crore worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time in the country.</p>

Soon after the promo was dropped online, several BTS photos were shared from the sets. Smriti herself took to Instagram to share a selfie with Sakshi and walked down memory lane.&nbsp;</p><h2>Smriti Irani on her decades-long friendship with Sakshi Tanwar</h2><p>In the photo, both Smriti and Sakshi are seen dressed in their characters- Tulsi and Parvati, respectively. Smirti wrote a warm note along with the photo, talking of her two-and-a-half-decade-long friendship. Smriti added that they did not intend to create history, but it was made while they were ‘chasing excellence’.&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>She wrote, “Grace, grit and gorgeousness—there are many adjectives that I can ascribe to Sakshi, but what I can’t describe is how it felt to embrace the memory and reality of her after 2.5 decades of camaraderie. We didn’t know the ruckus Tulsi Parvati created, for we were not chasing history; we happened to make it while chasing excellence.”</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>She also added that she would not want to reduce Sakshi to merely ‘complimentary phrases’ calling her ‘all heart’ and writing, “To say she is a loving mother, a doting daughter, an authentic human being — is to reduce her to just complimentary phrases, to bind her to mere words … so what do you say to her for this is one person that can make even silences speak. Just like my mother, despite the many ups and downs in life, Mai too retains her sanctity by shunning the world outside of her family. But, what if her existence were to cross paths with an extremely dire and appalling circumstance?"<br />
