They also confirmed that the so-called "kidnapping" was real.

The Shanghai company said that the Hangzhou robot Erbai had accessed the internal operating protocol of the other bots and its corresponding permissions.

They further stated that it is impossible for robots to start a conversation and carry out the abduction of other bots.

It was later revealed by the robot kidnapper Erbai's Hangzhou company that it was actually a test.&nbsp;

The futuristic kind of robots have been unveiled by NASA which will look into the mysteries of the underwater worlds of the moons of Jupiter like Europa and Saturn's Enceladus.&nbsp;

The concept, which has been built by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), is called Sensing With Independent Micro-swimmers (SWIM) and can prove revolutionary in the investigation of the icy worlds' subsurface oceans.&nbsp;

The robot is being tested in a pool and it weighs more than two kilograms and measures nearly 16.5 inches.

NASA said that their plan is to deliver various such tiny self-propelled robots which are three times smaller in comparison to the existing autonomous underwater vehicles and look for temperature and chemical signals which can point to life.

The visitors were left stunned and angry when they found that the much-hyped giant whale shark was actually a robot in an aquarium in China.&nbsp;

This "deep-fake" incident happened at the Xiaomeisha Sea World in Shenzhen which had opened to the public on October 1 after undergoing a five-year renovation, reported Jam Press.

The aquarium had a week-long dry run and around 100,000 visitors came to the 645,000-square-foot ocean zoo. The visitors had to pay $40 to enter the wet wonderland.

Visitors were looking forward to the star attraction of the theme park which was the whale shark – the largest fish in the world – believed to grow to 60 feet in length.

<h2>Visitors feel cheated, aquarium authorities claim 'were adhering to laws'</h2>

After the visitors realised that the regal sea beast was actually a robot, they felt cheated.&nbsp;

As the outrage widened, Xiaomeisha also had to face criticism online.

“The venue isn’t large enough, and even the whale shark is artificial. By 3 o’clock, people were already demanding refunds," said a user.

“The most disappointing part was the whale shark exhibit,” wrote another user on the social media platform&nbsp;Xiaohongshu.&nbsp;

“When I heard the name, I was full of anticipation, but when I arrived, I saw a mechanical whale shark. It’s not interesting at all," commented a third user.

Addressing the criticism, the representatives of Xiaomeisha said that the robo-shark — which had cost millions of Chinese yuan — was created to adhere to laws which ban the trade of whale sharks and was not aimed at “catfish” visitors.&nbsp;

“Even though it’s for the sake of animal protection, I’d rather they didn’t have one at all than show a fake one,” said a user.

“The fish care was not professional enough. I noticed that some of the fish in the tanks had white spots,” wrote another user.

“Most people wouldn’t notice, but anyone who’s kept tropical fish knows that’s white spot disease. Some of the fish didn’t appear to be in good health," a third user stated.

An innovative way has been adopted by Tesco to stop supermarket thefts and catch thieves.&nbsp;

'Ominous' security robots, which are Dalek-like machines, now stand outside the stores to catch hold of the thieves with the help of 360-degree cameras.&nbsp;

The bots are placed near the entrance of Tesco stores and using an "angry Northern Irish accent", they shout at any intruders they detect while sending alerts to the authorities.&nbsp;

Even though this robot is proving efficient, it is not very cheap and one needs to pay £100,000 ($1,33,757) per month to hire it.

Speaking about it, Tesco said that they have been using security robots outside the stores at night when they are closed.

"This photo shows a security device which is used in some stores outside of opening hours, when needed, such as to prevent burglary or following damage to our property," said a Tesco spokesman.

"The unit should not have been on the shop floor during opening hours," he added.

<h2>How does this angry robot work?</h2>

The device has yellow and blue chequered markings, similar to the UK Police, and is a PID360 security robot which has been created by Shropshire-based firm Deter Tech.

As per reports, the PID360 has been used around "at-risk" locations in Manchester, Bristol and Newcastle.&nbsp;

When an intruder is detected by the robot, a 114-decibel 'Star Wars-style' warning siren goes out along with flashing lights.&nbsp;

In Northern Irish voice, it then says, "Warning, this is security, your presence has been detected, the owner and police have been informed."

In less than a minute, a message, including an image of the intruder, is then sent to a central control room, manned by ex-police and military staff who will decide whether to call on-site security, the police, or a mobile response team."&nbsp;

As per&nbsp;Deter Tech, the robot is able to deter more than "80 per cent of intrusions" and&nbsp;it can be stationed in remote locations without any power.&nbsp;

"With its striking design, audio alerts, and LED illuminators, the PID360 serves as a powerful deterrent against intruders on your site," stated Deter Tech.&nbsp;

"It captures every activation with precision, and our dedicated team promptly reviews the footage and escalates any unauthorised presence detected," it added.

Meanwhile, Tesco staff has been mocking the device, with some even calling it "rather ominous", as reported by the Daily Star.&nbsp;

"My favourite thing about these is that they have northern Irish accents. I never thought of our accent to be unsettling but I guess they can be to some people lol," an employee was quoted as saying.&nbsp;

"I'm from NI and never seen one of these things, but I'm not surprised they'd get a guy from here to do the voice, supposed to be one of the most aggressive accents in the English-speaking world," said another.

Robots turn into security guards: Angry bots installed to shout at thieves in UK, alert cops

Researchers on Monday (September 9) announced that they have created the first robotic leg which has "artificial muscles" that help them jump across a range of surfaces.&nbsp;

These "artificial muscles" are oil-filled bags which will help machines move like humans.

In a video, the small and disembodied robot leg was seen hopping over grass and rock along with a new study in&nbsp;Nature Communications.

To everyone's surprise, this muscle-powered robotic leg can carry out complex movements like adapting and jumping on&nbsp;uneven terrain.

<h2>Humanoid robots to carry out 'boring labour' in houses?</h2>

Speaking to AFP, study co-author Robert Katzschmann said that the researchers can use this technology&nbsp;in future for making humanoid robots which can help out with "boring labour" around the house.

“If we combine the robotic leg in a quadruped robot or a humanoid robot with two legs, maybe one day, when it is battery-powered, we can deploy it as a rescue robot,” said&nbsp;Katzschmann, one of the lead developers from ETH Zurich.&nbsp;

The robotics professor at Switzerland's ETH Zurich University further explained that conventional&nbsp;humanoid robots have been built using motors and rigid metal joints which are similar to those that have been used on factory construction lines.&nbsp;

<h2>Is it safe to bring such muscle robots into houses?</h2>

Apart from being very expensive, these muscle-built robots can prove to be dangerous if they get entry into the houses of people.

If one were to "fall on you, it is going to be quite painful", said Katzschmann.

He added that a future robot helper needs to not only carry heavy things but "also give someone a hug or shake hands".

The study's co-author Thomas Buchner explained that “as soon as we apply a voltage to the electrodes, they are attracted to each other due to static electricity. Similarly, when I rub a balloon against my head, my hair sticks to the balloon due to the same static electricity.”&nbsp;

When such robots are paired on a skeleton, these actuators mimic the “paired muscle movements of living creatures” by creating one muscle's contraction one muscle while extending the other.

The scientists explained that the musculoskeletal system is “elastic” because of which they can flexibly adapt to the terrain.

“It’s no different with living creatures. If we can’t bend our knees, for example, walking on an uneven surface becomes much more difficult. Just think of taking a step down from the pavement onto the road,” Katzschmann said.

“On the infrared image, it’s easy to see that the motorized leg consumes much more energy if, say, it has to hold a bent position,” Buchner further said in the&nbsp;press release.

In a first, a live human's teeth were operated upon by an artificial intelligence-powered robot as the machine donned the cap of the dentist.

This may sound like a terrifying experience for many who are frequent visitors to&nbsp;a dentist.

However, this first unsupervised procedure carried out by the robot didn't seem very scary as the machine performed as was expected from it and the operation ended successfully.

US-based company Perspective developed the robot which successfully completed a crown replacement procedure on a live human in just 15 minutes, which was eight times faster in comparison to a human specialist, as reported by The Daily Mail.&nbsp;

For carrying out this unique procedure, the mouth of the patient was first mapped using a 3D scanner before the operation was planned and carried out by an artificial intelligence-powered robot autonomously.

Before carrying out the crown replacement, a human assistant is required to make a 3D model of the mouth of the patient with the help of a handheld scanner, in which the fluid within the teeth is detected to check below the gum line.

As per Perspective, the technique is 90 per cent accurate in spotting cavities and any other kind of erosion.

Member of Perspective clinical advisory board and dentist Karim Zaklama said, "Perceptive's AI-driven robotic system will transform dentistry. The patient experience will be better because of streamlining procedures and enhancing patient comfort."&nbsp;

A team of Swiss researchers have proposed using an autonomous, robotic hydraulic excavator for building a dry stone wall which will work as a blast shield and protect the launch pad on the moon.

The excavator will be using the in situ materials and the rocks from the lunar surface will be collected for making the ringed wall, which will have a radius of between 50 and 100 metres.

The scientists don't plan to adopt the costly practice of transferring the building material from&nbsp;Earth&nbsp;to&nbsp;the moon.

"The robot would be used to both collect the boulders as well as to construct the wall," said study lead author Jonas Walther, while speaking to Space.com.

The research was conducted by Walther for his master's thesis at ETH Zürich. Walther is now working with the Swiss company Venturi Lab which has been working with other companies on lunar rover design.

<h2>Lunar infrastructure - a quintessential step for humans in future?</h2>

According to scientists, the lunar infrastructure will be required if humans someday permanently settle on the moon to protect them from the exhaust and debris from rockets which are landing or taking off.

Gas, small particles and dust from rocket exhaust can prove to be hazardous, which was demonstrated when the&nbsp;Surveyor 3&nbsp;probe was brought back by the&nbsp;Apollo 12&nbsp;crew from the Oceanus Procellarum and the scientists found that it suffered damage by dust blown away by the Lunar Module Intrepid.

The scientists also fear that the rocket exhaust from&nbsp;SpaceX's giant&nbsp;Starship&nbsp;vehicle - through which astronauts will be sent on NASA's&nbsp;Artemis 3 mission - will harm the lunar environment in the area of hundreds of metres and extend it into kilometres.

Hence, they feel there is a need to set up a blast shield to protect any future ground infrastructure.
