Joe Biden's troubles seem to have no end. The 81-year-old presumptive Democratic Party presidential candidate for US Elections 2024 has been facing public ire for his advanced age and the alleged inability to lead America.&nbsp;

Since his dry-as-dust, halting performance in the debate against rival Donald last month, Biden has faced calls from young Democrat leaders to step aside. Rumours suggested that senior leaders of the party were also pressuring him in private to do so. Now, a senior Democrat, Senator Peter Welch, a long-serving member of Congress from Vermont, has publicly asked Biden to withdraw from the presidential race.

This comes as Democratic Party leaders challenged the US President to provide convincing evidence of a viable path to his re-election.

<h2>"For the good of the country"</h2>

Writing for the Washington Post, Senator Peter Welch said he was worried about the November elections.

"I have great respect for President Biden. He saved our country from a tyrant," wrote Welch, with a thinly veiled reference to Donald Trump.

"He is a man of uncommon decency. He cares deeply about our democracy. He has been one of the best presidents of our time...But I, like folks across the country, am worried about November's election."

Welch notes that the "stakes could not be higher" and said that Biden's "disastrous debate performance" cannot be unseen and that the "valid questions raised since that night," cannot be ignored or dismissed.&nbsp;

"For the good of the country, I'm calling on President Biden to withdraw from the race," stated Senator Welch.

<h2>Biden fights back</h2>

As Democrats toughen their stance against his nomination as Presidential nominee, Biden has taken to fighting back.

On Monday (Jul 8), a fiery-sounding Biden phoned into liberal-leaning MSNBC network's Morning Joe programme and said he's "getting so frustrated by the elites."

"I'm not talking about you guys — the elites in the party, 'Oh, they know so much more,'" he ranted.

Putting out an open challenge to the Democrats against his presidential re-run, he added,&nbsp;"Any of these guys that don't think I should run — run against me. Announce for president, challenge me at the convention."

Senator Peter Welch urges Biden to quit 2024 race, as Democrats challenge him to prove re-election viability

Donald Trump has challenged Joe Biden to another presidential debate and an 18-hole golf match, vowing to donate to charity if he loses the game.

"I'm also officially challenging crooked Joe to an 18-hole golf match right here on Doral's Blue Monster… It will be among the most-watched sporting events in history. Maybe bigger than the Ryder Cup or even the Masters," Trump said in Florida.

He vowed to donate $1 million to charity if he loses the golf match.

"And if he wins, I will give the charity of his choice, any charity of his choice, $1 million. And I'll bet you he doesn't take the offer," he said.

"Did you ever see him swing?,"&nbsp;the presumptive Republican presidential nominee asked supporters in a campaign speech.

The Biden campaign responded by saying the US president "doesn’t have time for Donald Trump’s weird antics–he’s busy leading America and defending the free world. Donald Trump is a liar, a convict, and a fraud only out for himself–par for the course."

"We’d challenge Donald Trump to create jobs, but he lost 3 million. We’d challenge Donald Trump to stand up to Putin, but he bent the knee to him. We’d challenge Donald Trump to follow the law, but he breaks it. We’d challenge Donald Trump to not destroy our country, but that’s all his Project 2025 aims to do", said Biden campaign spokesperson James Singer.

<h2>Seventh Democrat seeks Biden's exit from race</h2>

In the wake of a disastrous performance at the June 27 presidential debate, Biden faced calls to step aside, from his own Democratic Party, media, and donors. But in a stern letter to the party, he said he's staying in the race and asked for the "drama to end".

Trump's comments came even as a seventh House Democrat asked Biden to leave the race.

Mikie Sherrill issued a statement on Tuesday (July 9) seeking Biden's exit.

"Because I know President Biden cares deeply about the future of our country, I am asking that he declare that he won’t run for reelection and will help lead us through a process toward a new nominee," said the Representative from New Jersey.

<h2>Biden showing signs of neurodegeneration?</h2>

There have been reports in the past days that a neurologist with specialisation in Parkinson's disease had visited the White House eight times in the past eight months.

A separate neurologist, speaking to NBC News, said Biden has signs of 'neurodegeneration.'

“I could have diagnosed him from across the mall,” said Dr. Tom Pitts, who claimed Biden had “classic features of neurodegeneration”.

Trump challenges Biden to 18-hole golf match, second debate: 'Will donate to charity if...'

Russia prefers Donald Trump as the new President of the United States, revealed a US intelligence officer while briefing reporters on Tuesday (July 9).

US Elections 2024 are the contest that decides which leader Americans prefer, so why does Russia's preference matter?

<h2>Russia's preference and the US Elections</h2>

In the US elections, the public will decide whether Democrat presumptive candidate and current US President Joe Biden will once again take the helm of the Western power or whether his rival Republican presumptive candidate Trump will take over.

However, Russia can influence the decision in favour of one candidate or the other, thus impeding fair elections.

<h2>Russia and US elections: Historical context</h2>

As per the Reuters news agency, historically, US intelligence assessments have indicated that Moscow attempted to influence the elections in favour of Trump in both 2016 against Hillary Clinton and 2020 against Joe Biden.&nbsp;

Talking to the press, the official from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) reiterated that these assessments remain unchanged.

<h2>Why does Russia prefer Trump?</h2>

Russia's favour for Trump largely has to do with the US's role in the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war.

"We have not observed a shift in Russia's preferences for the presidential race from past elections, given the role the US is playing with regard to Ukraine and broader policy toward Russia," said the official.

Trump has in recent days criticised the extent of US military support for Ukraine — totalling around $60 billion since Russia's invasion in 2022 — and referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy as "the greatest salesman ever."&nbsp;

Furthermore, Trump's national security advisers have suggested ending US military aid to Ukraine unless it engages in peace talks with Russia.&nbsp;

On NATO, the ex-president&nbsp;plans to "encourage" Russia to do "whatever the hell they want" against alliance members not meeting defence spending targets. This is in direct contradiction to NATO's collective defence obligations.

Conducting the briefing with anonymity, officials from ODNI, FBI, and National Coordinator for Critical Infrastructure Security and Resilience officials, highlighted the difference between election influence (shaping poll outcomes or undermining democratic processes) and interference (disrupting the ability to hold a free and fair vote).&nbsp;

Currently, the US has not found evidence of plans by any country to disrupt the upcoming November elections,&nbsp;they said.

However, the official revealed that Russia has begun efforts to influence specific voter groups in battleground states, promoting divisive narratives and denigrating particular politicians. These efforts, primarily conducted through social media and using US voices, aim to shape the presidential, congressional, and public opinion.

<h2>Is China looking to&nbsp;influence US elections?</h2>

As per the report, unlike Russia, China is not actively planning to influence the presidential race, although it seeks to expand its capability to collect and monitor data from social media "probably to better understand and eventually manipulate public opinion," said the official.

US Elections 2024: American intelligence reveals Russia still prefers Trump as President. Here's why

US Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday (July 9) reiterated her support for Joe Biden. Describing the embattled president as a "fighter" Harris during her speech at a Las Vegas event focused on Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities&nbsp;warned that Biden's rival, Republican Donald Trump would turn America into a 'dictatorship' if re-elected to the White House.&nbsp;

<h2>Joe Biden is a 'fighter'</h2>

Speaking at a campaign event in Nevada, Harris referred to questions around Biden's age and the rumours about his ability to lead the country and said: "We always knew this election would be tough, and the past few days have been a reminder that running for President of the United States is never easy."

Kamala Harris declares Joe Biden a 'fighter,' warns Trump will push nation into dictatorship

Joe Biden, it seems, is pulling a 'Trump'. The US President, looking forward to another term in the White House, as per reports, has taken a page out of his Republican rival Donald Trump's book. On Monday (Jul 8), the Democrat dialled into a morning TV show, lamenting against the "elite" Democrats asking him to quit the election race.

The move, as per news agency AFP, is reminiscent of Trump's days as a president when he would routinely phone into conservative Fox and Friends TV show prattling about whatever struck his fancy.

<h2>What did Biden say?</h2>

Phoning into liberal-leaning MSNBC network's Morning Joe programme, a fiery-sounding Biden said he's "getting so frustrated by the elites."

The "elite" narrative is nothing new. Populist leaders, including Trump, have used it to rally people against the "elites" while being a part of the so-called group themselves.

His phone-in speech of sorts garnered mixed responses. On one hand, Jon Favreau, a former speechwriter for&nbsp;Barack Obama, commented that while Biden's "energy is great", his "message absolutely sucks," labelling it "Angry, defensive, lashing out at all the wrong people."

On the other hand, the likes of Hollywood director&nbsp;Rob Reiner known for movies like When Harry Met Sally&nbsp;said if Biden were to keep up similar performances until the November elections "he'll be able to shut up people like me who think he should step aside."

<h2>Biden goes 'full Trump'</h2>

This is not the only inspiration the usually mild-mannered Biden has taken from Trump.

Joe Biden has taken to touting the huge crowd at his rallies, a move right out of his predecessor's playbook.

At a campaign rally in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, he boasted to his audience, "We've been drawing big crowds. Ever since the debate, not joking, even that night we had big crowds afterwards."

He has also taken to bragging about his accomplishments, to the press and his congressmen peers — in the letter he wrote recently.

Not only that, Biden has also taken up Trump's typically aggressive persona to slam him, whether by calling him a "loser" a threat to democracy or slamming him for having "sex with a porn star" during the Presidential debate watched by 50 million people.

People have also commented on him borrowing Trump's signature "orange" sheen. As Paul Murray, a commentator on Sky Australia, commented recently, Biden had gone from "white to orange".&nbsp;

"Is he trying to trick the voters of America that he's Donald Trump?" he asked jokingly.

'Trump-style' TV rant: Biden slams Democrat party 'elites,' challenges rivals to run against him

The news mill is rife with reports that US President Joe Biden is under treatment for Parkinson's disease and is consulting a neurologist outside his annual physicals. However, on Monday, the White House batted away the rumours and said that the Parkinson's disease expert's visits to the White House had nothing to do with 81-year-old Biden.

<h2>Why did the Parkinson's expert visit the White House?</h2>

According to a report by Reuters,&nbsp;its review of the White House logs shows that Dr Kevin Cannard, a neurologist and movement disorders specialist from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, had visited the Presidential estate eight times from August 2023 to March 2024.

According to speculations, Dr Cannard was there to consult on Biden's health. However, speaking to the press during a media briefing, White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre refused to confirm or elaborate on the doctor's visits but said that the President was not being treated for Parkinson's.

"Has the President been treated for Parkinson's? No. Is he being treated for Parkinson's? No, he's not. Is he taking medication for Parkinson's? No," she stated.

Jean-Pierre said she wanted to respect the privacy of all those involved, but suggested that Cannard might be connected to the treatment of some military personnel working at the White House complex.

"There are thousands of military personnel that come to the White House and they are under the care of the medical unit," she said.

Jean-Pierre also said that the president had seen a neurologist three times connected to his annual physical examination.

The octogenarian over his Presidential term has made several gaffes. His recent confused, dry-as-dust debate performance against rival Donald Trump has raised fresh concerns about his health and his ability to lead the United States of America for another four years.

<h2>What is Parkinson's Disease?</h2>

Parkinson's disease, as per the World Health Organization (WHO) is a brain condition that causes problems with movement, mental health, sleep, pain, and other health issues. The condition, it says, gets worse over time and there is no cure. The news mill is rife with reports that US President Joe Biden is under treatment for Parkinson's disease and is consulting a neurologist outside his annual physicals.

Why did the Parkinson's expert visit the White House? According to a report by Reuters, its review of the White House logs shows that Dr Kevin Cannard, a neurologist and movement disorders specialist from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, had visited the Presidential estate eight times from August 2023 to March 2024. Also read | Biden has Parkinsons? "There are thousands of military personnel that come to the White House and they are under the care of the medical unit," she said. Jean-Pierre also said that the president had seen a neurologist three times connected to his annual physical examination. His recent confused, dry-as-dust debate performance against rival Donald Trump has raised fresh concerns about his health and his ability to lead the United States of America for another four years. What is Parkinson's Disease? Parkinson's disease, as per the World Health Organization (WHO) is a brain condition that causes problems with movement, mental health, sleep, pain, and other health issues. The condition, it says, gets worse over time and there is no cure. However, therapies and medicines can reduce symptoms, which include tremors, painful muscle contractions and difficulty speaking. The race is already heating up. In just a few months, the Democratic Party's (presumptive) presidential&nbsp;candidate will face off the Republican Party's (presumptive) candidate in the 2024 US Elections.

Already, many polls show that the elections scheduled for November will be a hard-fought, albeit close race. These are the important dates in the election race set to conclude on November 5.

<h2>US Election Schedule: July 2024</h2>

- July 15-18: At the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the GOP will formally choose its candidate.

- Vice-president face-off: Joe Biden's running mate, Vice President Kamala Harris, has agreed to debate Donald Trump's yet-to-be-announced running mate. The debate by CBS can happen either on July 23 or on August 13.&nbsp;

Trump's campaign is yet to say whether his running mate would debate Harris on CBS.

Another debate between the two running mates may happen on Fox News around the same time. While Trump has accepted the vice presidential debate invite on behalf of his VP candidate, Biden's campaign is yet to revert on Harris' availability.

Trump vs Biden: Important dates in the 2024 US presidential elections

Representative Angie Craig of Minnesota, an important battleground US state, has joined a growing group of House Democrats urging President Joe Biden to end his campaign for a second term.

On Saturday (July 6), Craig emphasised the high stakes involved and her belief that Biden stepping aside would be necessary to avoid a second term for Donald Trump.

This comes amid murmurs about the 81-year-old's capacity to lead America after his abysmal debate performance last month and as a New York Post report claims that Biden's doctor consulted with a Parkinson’s disease expert, at the White House.

<h2>Does Biden have Parkinson's?</h2>

As per a New York Post report published Saturday, this year, Biden's doctor consulted with Dr. Kevin Cannard, a Parkinson’s disease expert.

The damning report is based on White House logs and comes amid questions about Biden's leadership and his advanced age.&nbsp;

As per the report, on January 17, Cannard, a Parkinson’s disease expert at Walter Reed Medical Center, met with Biden's doctor Kevin O'Connor at the White House. Reportedly, this was not a one-off visit, in fact, Cannard has visited the White House eight times since August 2023.

Biden, however, has consistently refused to take a cognitive test, dismissing the need for such an assessment.

In a recent ABC News interview on Friday (July 5), Biden reiterated that no one had suggested he needed a cognitive test.&nbsp;

"No one said I had to … they said I’m good," he said while asked if he had taken specific tests for cognitive capability.&nbsp;

He also dismissed the idea of taking an independent neurological and cognitive exam and releasing the results publicly, claiming, "I get a cognitive test every day… Everything I do—you know, not only am I campaigning, but I'm running the world."

<h2>Democrats call on Biden to quit election race</h2>

Craig joins Reps. Lloyd Doggett, Raul Grijalva, Seth Moulton, and Mike Quigley in urging Biden to step down.

In her statement on Saturday, Craig said, "This is not a decision I've come to lightly, but there is simply too much at stake to risk a second Donald Trump presidency."&nbsp;

Craig, who represents Minnesota's 2nd Congressional District, is one of five House Democrats calling on Biden to withdraw from the race.&nbsp;

"That's why I respectfully call on President Biden to step aside as the Democratic nominee for a second term as president and allow for a new generation of leaders to step forward," she said.

Craig said that she has "great respect," for Biden, but that the debate "coupled with the lack of forceful response from the president himself following that debate, I do not believe that the president can effectively campaign and win against Donald Trump."

"Now is the time to be candid with ourselves."

"I appreciate loyalty. This isn't about loyalty, this is pragmatic politics to avoid a second Trump term."

France: Far-right to fall short of clear majority? | What is the Republican front?

Speaking to the press, Biden's spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre rejected reports about internal rumblings about finding a replacement candidate before November&nbsp;election. She said that "The president is clear-eyed, and he is staying in the race".

Biden too, in a call with campaign and party staffers said that he is going nowhere.

"I'm in this race to the end and we're going to win because when Democrats unite, we will always win. Just as we beat Donald Trump in 2020, we're going to beat him again in 2024," he said, as quoted by AFP.

Biden repeated the message in an emergency meeting with Democratic governors. The attendees later told AFP that they have pledged their continued support.

"As the president continued to tell us, and show us, that he was all in... we said that we would stand with him," said Maryland Governor Wes Moore to reporters speaking alongside Minnesota's Tim Walz and Kathy Hochul of New York.

Walz told the press that Biden was "fit to serve."

Biden, himself, has gracefully admitted that he performed poorly in the debate. In a radio interview recorded Wednesday with Wisconsin's Civic Media, he bluntly said: "I screwed up. I made a mistake. That's 90 minutes on stage. Look at what I've done in 3.5 years."

In another interview, this one with Pennsylvania's WURD radio on Thursday, he said "I had a bad debate."

The debate&nbsp;last week&nbsp;(Thursday, June 27)&nbsp;has shaken Biden's standing in the 2024 US election race. During the debate, an audience of more than 50 million people saw Biden's hoarse, halting delivery that once again led to questions and debate about his age and his ability to lead the US.

A recent survey by CBS News, shows that following his debate with Trump an increasing number of voters, including Democrats, do not believe that Biden should be running for president.

The survey shows that most voters said that Biden should not run given his campaigning and his effectiveness in office, along with his age. By contrast, Trump among Republicans finds a wide view that he should be running.

A CNN poll conducted by SSRS found that Trump has a 6 per cent lead on Biden — 49 per cent to the Democrat's 43 per cent. Not only that, as per the poll, most people would rather have Kamala Harris run for president.

'Clear-eyed' Joe: White House dismisses rumours of internal rumblings, says Biden is 'staying in the race'

A recent poll has discovered that the majority of voters in the United States believe that the Democrat Party has a better chance of holding on to the White House&nbsp;If they select another presidential candidate and&nbsp;replace&nbsp;Joe Biden.&nbsp;

Last week's debate between him and rival Donald Trump has shaken Biden's approval ratings and, as per the new CNN poll conducted by SSRS, voters nationwide favour Trump over him.

As per the poll, nationwide, Trump has a 6 per cent lead on Biden — 49 per cent to the Democrat's 43 per cent.

Voters were found to be more likely to support an alternative Democrat candidate. But which candidate?

The poll put&nbsp;Trump against three hypothetical Democrat candidates: Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom and Pete Buttigieg. It found that in a matchup against Trump, current Vice President Harris would lead with 47 per cent compared to Trump's 34 per cent.&nbsp;

Similarly, Newsom would lead Trump with 42 per cent against 36 per cent and Buttigieg would take the lead on the Republican with 42 per cent to his 35 per cent.

This goes to show that instead of Biden, the current voter sentiment would rather have other Democrats face off against Trump.

US Elections 2024: Poll reveals voters prefer Kamala Harris over Biden in matchup against Trump

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., on Tuesday (July 2) addressed concerns regarding President Joe Biden's performance during last week's debate, and suggested that both him and Republican rival Donald Trump should take a mental acuity test.

Later the same day, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters that they have been transparent about Biden's health.

This comes as last week, Biden and Trump faced each other in the first presidential debate of US Elections 2024.

During the debate, Biden, 81, appeared to struggle with maintaining his train of thought and stumbled over his words multiple times. This renewed speculation about his mental capabilities, whether the aged leader is suffering from Alzheimer's and whether he should continue as the Democratic presidential nominee.

On the Republican side, Trump is also fielding similar questions about his mental capabilities.&nbsp;

The Biden vs Trump election fight has not just one but two senior citizens. On the one hand, it is 81-year-old Biden and on the other, 78-year-old Trump. Is either fit for the most important office in America? Let's take a look.

<h2>Nancy Pelosi on Biden, Trump and mental acuity tests</h2>

Pelosi said that it was valid for people to question whether Biden's difficulties on the debate stage were a onetime issue or indicative of a larger problem.

"I think it's a legitimate question to say: Is this an episode, or is this a condition? And so when people ask that question, it's completely legitimate — of both candidates," said Pelosi during an interview on MSNBC's "Andrea Mitchell Reports".

"Both candidates owe whatever test you want to put them to, in terms of their mental acuity and their health — both of them," she added.

Pelosi emphasised her confidence in Biden's ability to "continue to be a great President of the United States," but said he needs for him to demonstrate his capabilities in unscripted settings. She recommended that Biden participate in multiple interviews with serious journalists to address any question and "just sit there and be Joe."

Pelosi also noted mixed reactions from elected Democrats about Biden's continuation in the race.&nbsp;

Later, when asked for further clarification, Pelosi's spokesperson, Ian Krager, said she "has full confidence in President Biden and looks forward to attending his inauguration on January 20, 2025."

<h2>How do Democrats feel about Biden's alleged health issues?</h2>

According to Pelosi, many Democrats express unwavering support and say "Joe's our guy. We love him; we trust him. He has vision, knowledge, judgment, and integrity. The other guy has none of the above."

However, others are not so happy about him being the presumptive Democratic Party presidential candidate. On Tuesday, Rep. Lloyd Doggett of Texas became the first Democrat to call for Biden to exit the race.&nbsp;

Talking to CNN on Tuesday (July 2) Rep. Mike Quigley, D-Ill., another Democrat said that while it is Biden's decision, they must honestly acknowledge his performance issues. "We have to be honest with ourselves that it wasn't just a horrible night".

<h2>White House races to quash questions about Biden's capability</h2>

White House press secretary Jean-Pierre in a statement on Tuesday stressed that the administration has been transparent about Biden's health.&nbsp;

"We have put forward a thorough, transparent annual report on his health, so they have said it (a cognitive test) is not warranted, it is not necessary," she said.

When asked about whether the octogenarian underwent a neurological scan or saw a doctor after the debate, she said that people need to "take a step back," and that Biden just had a "bad night."

"We understand. We're not taking away from what you all saw or what the American people saw. We understand it was a bad night," said Jean-Pierre.

A day after the debate, Biden acknowledged during a campaign event on Friday that he has aged and doesn't debate as well as he used to but insisted that he remains capable of handling the job. This narrative was reiterated in a new campaign ad his re-election campaign team released on Monday (July 1).

The White House last released Biden's health information in February 2024 after the President underwent a routine physical exam.

Then, Jean-Pierre rejected suggestions that Biden should take a cognitive test and said that he "passes a cognitive test every day" as he "moves from one topic to another topic, understanding the granular level of these topics."

Former President Donald Trump, 78 — only three years younger than Biden — has also faced similar scrutiny regarding his mental fitness, particularly after confusing Pelosi with former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley earlier this year. Some business executives who last month met with Trump described him as "remarkably meandering" and unable to "keep a straight thought".

This renewed speculation about his mental capabilities, whether the aged leader is suffering from Alzheimer's and whether he should continue as the Democratic presidential nominee. On the Republican side, Trump is also fielding similar questions about his mental capabilities. The Biden vs Trump election fight has not just one but two senior citizens. On the one hand, it is 81-year-old Biden and on the other, 78-year-old Trump. Is either fit for the most important office in America? Let's take a look. Nancy Pelosi on Biden, Trump and mental acuity tests Pelosi said that it was valid for people to question whether Biden's difficulties on the debate stage were a onetime issue or indicative of a larger problem. She recommended that Biden participate in multiple interviews with serious journalists to address any question and "just sit there and be Joe." Also read | ‘Almost fell asleep on stage’: Biden blames pre-debate travel for subpar performance Pelosi also noted mixed reactions from elected Democrats about Biden's continuation in the race. Later, when asked for further clarification, Pelosi's spokesperson, Ian Krager, said she "has full confidence in President Biden and looks forward to attending his inauguration on January 20, 2025." How do Democrats feel about Biden's alleged health issues? According to Pelosi, many Democrats express unwavering support and say "Joe's our guy. We love him; we trust him. He has vision, knowledge, judgment, and integrity. The other guy has none of the above." However, others are not so happy about him being the presumptive Democratic Party presidential candidate. On Tuesday, Rep. Lloyd Doggett of Texas became the first Democrat to call for Biden to exit the race. Talking to CNN on Tuesday (July 2) Rep. Mike Quigley, D-Ill., another Democrat said that while it is Biden's decision, they must honestly acknowledge his performance issues. US President Joe Biden on Monday (Jul 1) warned that the Supreme Court's landmark ruling granting ex-president Donald Trump "absolute immunity" sets a "dangerous precedent" that the Republican would not shy from exploiting if elected in November.

"This nation was founded on the principle that there are no kings in America," said the Democrat presumptive presidential candidate for the 2024 US elections.

"Each of us is equal before the law. No one — no one — is above the law, not even the President of the United States."

Addressing the press at the White House, Biden said that "for all practical purposes today's decision almost certainly means there are no limits to what a president can do. This is a fundamentally new principle, and it's a dangerous precedent."

"Any president—including Donald Trump—will now be free to ignore the law," said Biden, urging&nbsp;the people to decide if they once again want to "entrust" Trump with the Presidency.

"The American people must decide if they want to entrust… once again, the presidency to Donald Trump, now knowing he'll be more emboldened to do whatever he pleases, whenever he wants to do it," he said.

Donald Trump is charged with conspiracy attempt to defraud America and the obstruction of an official proceeding - elections. He allegedly did this by rallying his supporters on January 6, 2021, to prevent the joint session of Congress from being held to certify Biden's win in the election.

"The public has a right to know the answer about what happened on January 6, before they're asked to vote again this year," Biden said, adding, "Now because of today's decision, that is highly, highly unlikely. It's a terrible disservice to the people of this nation."

'No kings in America': Supreme Court's 'absolute immunity' for Trump sets 'dangerous precedent', warns Biden

United States President Joe Biden's re-election campaign has aired a new 60-second ad campaign that seeks to help the presumptive Democratic candidate recover from his abysmal performance at his first face-to-face debate with rival Donald Trump this election.

<h2>Debate fallout</h2>

Last week's (Wednesday, June 27), debate has shaken Biden's standing in the 2024 US election race. During the altercation, an audience of more than 50 million people saw Biden's hoarse, halting delivery that once again led to questions and debate about his age and his ability to lead the US.

The latest ad, which as per the New York Times has been aired in key battleground states, doesn't show footage of the debate. Instead, it shows a charged-up Biden at a rally in North Carolina, held on Thursday (June 28), a day after the debate.

Seeking to address concerns around his age, Biden at the rally can be seen telling the crowd, "Folks, I know I'm not a young man."

"But I know how to do this job. I know right from wrong. I know how to tell the truth. And I know, like millions of Americans know, when you get knocked down you get back up," he adds, punctuating the last line with an energetic fist pump.

‘Not the worst idea’: Trump floats plan for UFC-style ‘migrant league of fighters’ amid border crisis

Former US president Donald Trump has promised to defund schools teaching things like gender ideology and critical race theory if he is reelected this coming November.

Speaking at Turning Point Action's "The People's Convention" in Michigan on Saturday (June 15), Trump said he would further cut funding to federal schools that require vaccines and masks.

<h2>Education, a top priority</h2>

"On day one, I will sign a new executive order to cut federal funding for any school pushing critical race theory, transgender insanity, and other inappropriate racial, sexual, or political content onto the lives of our children," said the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

Trump underscored that education is a top priority in his campaign. He had previously revealed plans to "break up" the Department of Education, alter schools' curriculums, and allow school principals to be elected.

He promised support for the Second Amendment, which upholds an individual's right to own a gun.

He also said he would prohibit doctors from providing gender-affirming care and not allow federal agencies to promote "the concept of sex and gender transition at any age".

Previously, in January, he called the promotion of the LGBTQ agenda a form of "child abuse" and laid out a strategy to end what he termed "chemical, physical, and emotional mutilation of our youth".

To address these concerns and prove his might on an issue he's perceived to be badly performing on, Biden recently issued an executive order restricting asylum claims when illegal border crossings exceed 2,500 per day. It also facilitates deportations to Mexico.&nbsp;

The order, intended to be temporary until crossings fall below 1,500 per day, has faced criticism from both sides of the political spectrum. Republicans view the measure as insufficient, while others criticise it as too harsh.

Trump, seizing on this discontent, promised to rescind the order immediately if elected. "On Day One of my administration, I will be rescinding Crooked Joe's outrageous executive order," he declared, labelling it as "pro-invasion, pro-child trafficking… pro-drug dealers" without providing evidence.

Addressing a cheering crowd, he also vowed, "I will terminate every single open borders policy of the Biden administration."

The Republican leader's previous term was marked by strict immigration measures, including a controversial travel ban on several Muslim-majority countries.

Trump vows to reverse 'crooked Joe's outrageous executive' border order

The White House on Thursday (May 16) prevented the release of audio of President Joe Biden’s interview to a special counsel regarding his handling of classified documents. They argued that Congressional Republicans sought the recordings primarily to manipulate and exploit them for political gain.

The House Judiciary Committee voted to continue to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress for not turning over the records.&nbsp;

“The department has a legal responsibility to turn over the requested materials pursuant to the subpoena,” Rep. Jim Jordan, the GOP chairman of the Judiciary Committee, said during the hearing.

“Attorney General Garland’s willful refusal to comply with our subpoena constitutes contempt of Congress,” he added.

The series of events on Thursday escalated tensions between House Republicans and the Justice Department, making the way for another round of intense conflict between the two branches of government that is likely to end up in court.

If House Republicans’ efforts against Garland are successful, he will become the third attorney general to be held in contempt of Congress.&nbsp;

The White House condemned Republicans in a letter, dismissing their efforts to obtain the audio as purely political.

White House counsel Ed Siskel wrote a letter to House Republicans saying, “The absence of a lawful need for the audio recordings lays bare your likely goal — to chop them up, distort them, and use them for partisan political purposes."

“Demanding such sensitive and constitutionally-protected law enforcement materials from the Executive Branch because you want to manipulate them for potential political gain is inappropriate,” Siskel added.

In a letter made public on Thursday, Garland informed Biden that the audio is covered by executive privilege. It safeguards a president’s ability to receive candid advice from advisers without the risk of immediate public disclosure and protects confidential communications related to official duties.

The attorney general told reporters that the Justice Department has gone to extraordinary lengths to provide information to the committees about special counsel Robert Hur's investigation, including a transcript of Biden's interview with Hur.&nbsp;

But, Garland said, releasing the audio could risk future sensitive and high-profile investigations. Officials have suggested handing over the tape could make future witnesses concerned about cooperating with investigators.

Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson criticised the White House’s move, accusing Biden of suppressing the tape because he's afraid to have voters hear it during an election year.

Hur, a former senior official in the Trump administration Justice Department, was appointed as a special counsel in January 2023 following the discovery of classified documents in multiple locations tied to Biden.

Hur’s report said many of the documents recovered at the Penn Biden Center in Washington, in parts of Biden’s Delaware home, and in his Senate papers at the University of Delaware were retained by mistake.

White House blocks Biden audio release amid Republican push for Garland contempt charge

In a baffling statement, United States Senator Lindsey Graham (Republican-South Carolina) compared the ongoing war between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas in Gaza to the US’ decision to drop atomic bombs on Japan during World War II and told Israel to “do whatever” to finish the military operation it has launched in the blockaded enclave.&nbsp;

<h2>‘Right decision’</h2>

In a recent interview, Graham appeared to justify Israel’s killing of civilians in Gaza as well as the assault on Gaza's city of Rafah, which US President Joe Biden had warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against.&nbsp;

The Republican senator also compared the ongoing war in Gaza to America’s war with Japan nearly eight decades ago while suggesting that Israel would be right to flatten the Gaza Strip, home to some 2.2 million Palestinians because the US did so too in 1945 when it dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.&nbsp;

He also went on to call the decision to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki “the right decision” by the US. The decision in question killed hundreds of thousands of people, mostly Japanese civilians, due to the blasts and the radiation that followed.&nbsp;

“Give Israel the bombs they need to end the war they can’t afford to lose and work with them to minimise casualties,” the Republican senator added. The interviewer, Kristin Welker, attempted to stop him, but he talked over her.&nbsp;

“Why is it okay for America to drop two nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end their existential threat war. Why was it okay to do that? I thought it was okay?” said Graham.&nbsp;

He added, “To Israel, do whatever you have to do to survive as a Jewish state. Whatever you have to do.”

US Senator Lindsey Graham suggests Israel should nuke Gaza

The US House of Representatives on Wednesday (May 8) promptly defeated an effort by Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene to remove fellow Republican Speaker Mike Johnson from his leadership role.

Democrats and Republicans voted 359-43 to safeguard Johnson's role as Speaker, aiming to prevent a repeat of the turmoil that erupted in October when Republicans removed former Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Eleven Republicans voted against tabling.

Johnson was elected speaker after conservatives voted to oust former Speaker Kevin McCarthy last year. A historic and unprecedented vote sparked a turbulent period of internal strife as Republicans struggled to unite around a new leader before eventually coalescing around the Louisiana Republican.

Earlier, Republican Thomas Massie Greene criticised Johnson for a string of compromises with Democrats who hold a majority in the Senate.

But the chamber erupted in taunts as Greene read her resolution, with Democrats at times chanting "Hakeem, Hakeem," a reference to their party leader Hakeem Jeffries, highlighting the many times they voted for him as speaker during Republicans' multiple rounds of voting for speaker since the current House was seated in January 2021.

Following the vote, Johnson spoke briefly with reporters calling Greene’s campaign against him misguided and he also expressed gratitude towards his colleagues for showing confidence in his leadership.

“I want to say that I appreciate the show of confidence for my colleagues to defeat this misguided effort,” he said. “I’ve made clear here every day, I intend to do my job, I intend to do what I believe to be the right thing, which I was elected to do. And I’ll let the chips fall where they may.”

On the other hand, when Greene was asked whether she would trigger a vote again, Greene did not answer directly and said&nbsp;she was thankful for Trump’s support and mentioned that he indicated on Truth Social that Republicans might need to consider a motion to vacate at some point.

When asked whether she believes Trump was wrong to urge members to vote to table, she said, “I stand with President Trump. I support President Trump. I’ve talked to him every day about this.”

The judge presiding over Donald Trump's criminal trial&nbsp;fined him $1,000 on Monday (May 6), for breaching the gag order for the tenth time.

Justice Juan Merchan cautioned that he would contemplate incarcerating Trump for any subsequent infractions. Merchan noted that the nine fines of $1,000 each imposed previously did not appear to dissuade Trump from violating the gag order, which prohibits him from publicly discussing jurors, witnesses, and the families of the judge and prosecutors if such remarks try to interfere with the case.

Merchan stated that he saw jail time as "truly the last resort" for several reasons, including the trial's disruption, the political implications of imprisoning a leading presidential candidate before an election, and the exceptional security challenges of detaining a former president with ongoing Secret Service protection.

Nonetheless, he said that Trump's persistent and deliberate violations of the gag order amounted to a "direct attack on the rule of law."

“I do not want to impose a jail sanction and have done everything I can to avoid doing so. But I will if necessary,” Merchan said from the bench in the absence of the jury.

Judge fines Trump $1,000 for 10th gag order breach, warns of jail time

Republic Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene announced Wednesday (May 1) that she would table a motion next week seeking the removal of her fellow Republican Mike Johnson as House speaker.

Republic Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene announced Wednesday (May 1) that she would table a motion next week seeking the removal of her fellow Republican Mike Johnson as House speaker. However, her efforts seem doomed to fail as she lacks significant support among Republicans as well as Democrats. “I think the American people need to see a recorded vote,” Greene said at a press conference. “And so next week, I am going to be calling this motion to vacate – absolutely calling it. I can’t wait to see Democrats go out and support a Republican speaker and have to go home to their primaries and have to run for Congress again.” Earlier, on Tuesday, House Democratic leaders in a statement said they would stand against Greene’s motion if it came up for a vote. “At this moment, upon completion of our national security work, the time has come to turn the page on this chapter of pro-Putin Republican obstruction,” the leaders stated in the joint statement. “We will vote to table Marjorie Taylor Greene’s motion to vacate the chair. If she invokes the motion, it will not succeed.” Do Republicans support Taylor’s motion? So far, only two Republicans have tendered support to her anti-Johnson motion—Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Paul Gosar of Arizona. It means Greene would be short of hundreds of votes to get a majority. Democrats also oppose her efforts and cite Johnson’s successful attempt to shepherd a foreign aid package through the House last month. Mike Johnson’s response Mike Johnson has so far ignored Greene’s campaign, saying her motion would be “wrong for the Republican conference, wrong for the institution, and wrong for the country.” At a press conference on Tuesday, he urged his fellow House Republicans to “remain focused.” “I have to do my job. We have to do what we believe to be the right thing,” Johnson said. “We need people who are serious about the job here to continue to do that job and get it done. So I have to do what I believe is right every day and let the chips fall where they may,” he said. Greene’s concerns Greene accuses Mike Johnson of prioritising Democratic agendas ahead of Republican issues, and the attacks against him have intensified following the passage of the Ukraine aid bill last month. The proposal, which has now become a law, will see the US sending military aid worth $61 billion to Ukraine, a move several Republicans look askance upon. “What are we giving Republican voters to vote for?” Greene asked. “Once [Johnson] became speaker, he has become a man that none of us recognise.” Also read: US: Marjorie Taylor Greene tells reporter to ‘f*** off’ after question about ‘Jewish space lasers’ With Greene’s impending motion coming to reality, this would mark the second time in less than a year that the House has considered removing its speaker. Major Republican donors rallied up to assist former president Donald Trump in covering a hefty $454 million bond required in a civil fraud case ahead of the deadline on March 25, sources told the news agency, Reuters. What is Trump's civil fraud case about? Trump is facing a New York civil case where he was found liable for inflating his net worth to obtain better loan and insurance terms, resulting in a massive judgment against him. Billionaires who rallied to support Trump Billionaire hedge fund founder John Paulson and oil magnate Harold Hamm are among the prominent figures involved in this effort. They were seeking financial aid to help Trump pay the bond amount. Reuters reported that a donor offered more than $10 million towards the bond over the weekend, but was later told it was not necessary. Billionaires Paulson and Hamm will also participate in a campaign fundraiser for Trump, showcasing ongoing support from key allies. It is not necessary to disclose the sources of funds obtained to pay for the bonds. Earlier, Trump paid a $91.6 million bond after he lost the defamation case against writer E. Jean Carroll. Relief from the $454 million bond deadline On March 25, 2024, the former president was granted relief from paying $454 million and asked to pay a smaller $175 million bond within 10 days to delay the enforcement of the judgment. Trump told reporters in New York that he would post either the $175 million in cash or bonds or securities or whatever is necessary, very quickly.
