Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Saturday demanded bold actions from the Indian government, saying it should amend the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) by adding a schedule and subsequently declare Pakistan a terrorist state under it. Sibal also welcomed the decision regarding the all-party delegation&rsquo;s international visits and said, &ldquo;After the 26/11 attacks, the then PM Manmohan Singh decided to send delegations to different countries to show the world that Pakistan is a terrorist state and that terrorists are born there... An environment was created in the world that Pakistan is a factory that produces terrorism, after which terrorist attacks in J&amp;K started reducing. The terrorist attacks in 2014 in J&amp;K were less than in the later years,&rdquo; Sibal said.

Rana Sanga, in fact, fought against Babur,&rdquo; he said.

Prominent figure and founder-chancellor of Chandigarh University, Satnam Singh Sandhu has been nominated to the Rajya Sabha (Upper House) of the Parliament by President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday.&nbsp;

The distinguished ‘eduprenueur’ and philanthropist Sandhu has been nominated to fill in a vacancy created by the retirement of another nominated member.&nbsp;

As per the Indian Constitution, 12 members are nominated to the Rajya Sabha by the President of India for a six-year term for their contributions to&nbsp;arts, literature, education and social service.

The official circular released on Tuesday, read, “In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-clause (a) of clause (1) of article 80 of the Constitution of India, read with clause (3) of that article, the President is pleased to nominate Shri Satnam Singh Sandhu to the Council of States to fill the vacancy caused due to the retirement of one of the nominated members.”

Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankar congratulated Sandhu on X and thanked him for his “passion towards education, innovation and learning will be big sources of strength for the Rajya Sabha.”

Satnam Singh Sandhu is the founder and chancellor of Chandigarh University. He is also the patron of two NGOs - Chandigarh Welfare Trust (CWT) and New India Development (NID) Foundation, which work on community welfare projects in Chandigarh.&nbsp;

Born in the small village of Rasoolpur in Punjab’s Ferozepur, Satnam initially followed his father’s footsteps and worked as a farmer.&nbsp;

On Thursday, Chadha slammed the BJP for accusing him of forging the signatures of five MPs in a motion related to the Delhi services bill. He said that the party was trying to "suppress" his voice as he had "exposed" its "double standards".&nbsp;

Rajya Sabha chairman on Wednesday referred complaints of four MPs, who accused Chadha of proposing their name for the constitution of a Select Committee without their consent in violation of rules. The rules state that neither a member's consent nor signature is required to propose his or her name for a Select Committee.&nbsp;

In a press conference, the AAP leader said that the allegations against him were "baseless" and said an MP can propose the name of any other member without their written consent or signature for a Select Committee.&nbsp;

"Any member can propose the name of any other member without the written consent of the member or signature," the AAP MP said. He also claimed that a "rumour" is being spread about him doing forgery.&nbsp;

He asked how the question of forgery arise when nobody's signature was taken and submitted. "A rumour which is being spread about forged signatures is absolutely wrong and baseless," Chadha said.&nbsp;

"I challenge the BJP to show the papers that have the forged signatures as alleged by them. The Parliamentary Bulletin on complaints against me has no mention of forgery, fake signatures," Chadha said and added that the BJP was "trying to suppress his voice".&nbsp;

India: Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha suspended from Rajya Sabha on signature forgery allegations

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief ministers have lost all perks after the Centre repealed or amended 138 legislations of the erstwhile state. According to a gazette notification on Wednesday, the government amended the Jammu and Kashmir State Legislature Members’ Pension Act and increased the pension amount to Rs 75,000 per month from Rs 50,000.

Section 3-C of the Act, under which former chief ministers of Jammu and Kashmir were entitled to various privileges and perks, has now been omitted.

With this amendment, the former chief ministers would not be entitled to rent-free furnished accommodation, expenditure to the limit of Rs 35,000 per annum for furnishing of the residential accommodation, free telephone calls up to the value of Rs 48,000 per annum, free electricity to the extent of Rs 1,500 per month, car, petrol, medical facilities, driver and personal assistant.

The provisions were made through a gazette notification, titled the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Adaptation of State Laws) Order-2020.

Four former chief ministers of the erstwhile state — Farooq Abdullah, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti — are alive and all of them are central government protectees.

The amended Special Security Group, which means the security of the chief minister and former chief ministers, will not provide security to family members of serving chief ministers.

Amending the Jammu and Kashmir Migrant Immovable Property (Preservation, Protection and Restraint on Distress Sales) Act, the government inserted a paragraph whereby it asked: “competent authorities” shall prepare the details of the irremovable property of migrants in a prescribed format and “take appropriate action to evict unauthorised occupant of such migrant property including such action as provided in section 5” of the Act.

Section 5 says that if any unauthorised occupant of any migrant property refuses or fails to surrender possession, the competent authority may use force for taking possession.
