The outgoing chief minister of Jharkhand, Raghubar Das tendered his resignation to the Governor on Monday after the landslide win of Congress-JMM-RJD alliance in the assembly election.

"People's mandate has not been in favour of BJP, but whatever has been the verdict of the people, we respect it," Das said after resigning from the post.&nbsp;

"I hope Hemant Soren and his government will work to fulfil the dreams of the people," Das added.

Das handed over his resignation to Governor Draupadi Murmu at Raj Bhavan here after the BJP lost assembly polls in the state.

Das also congratulated JMM working president Hemant Soren for the victory of the alliance led by his party in the elections.&nbsp;

"My heartiest congratulations and best wishes to Hemant Soren and all the newly-elected MLA," Das added.

As per Election Commission trends, Congress-JMM-RJD alliance won 45 seats and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 22 seats.

The counting of votes for 81 Jharkhand Assembly seats began at 8 am on Monday in all the 24 district headquarters amid tight security.

&nbsp;The state went to polls in five phases from November 30 to December 20.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, accepting the defeat, BJP president Amit Shah said, "We respect the mandate given by the people of Jharkhand."

"We express our heartfelt gratitude to the people for the opportunity given to BJP to serve the state for 5 years. The BJP will remain committed to the development of the state continuously."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated Soren.

"Congratulations to @HemantSorenJMM Ji and the JMM-led alliance for the victory in the Jharkhand polls. Best wishes to them in serving the state."

Jharkhand Aseembly polls: Outgoing CM Raghubar Das concedes defeat; says 'we respect' public mandate

Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) and AJSU were leading on three seats each, Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (Liberation) and NCP were ahead on one seat each and independents on two.

The state had a five-phased assembly election which concluded on December 20.

Congress leaders expressed confidence that the pre-poll alliance of the party will come to power.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das and other senior state party leaders on Thursday met BJP president Amit Shah at his residence here to finalise the list of candidates for the upcoming assembly elections.

Apart from Das, the meeting was attended by Jharkhand BJP president Laxman Gilua, election in-charge O P Mathur and election co-in-charge Ram Vichar Netam along with the Union Minister from the state Arjun Munda.

The meeting, which began around 6 pm, concluded in the early hours of Friday.

Ahead of the scheduled meeting with Shah, senior party leaders had managed to bring down the number of prospective candidates on each seat from 15 to five.

"We can't go unprepared. Even if we have brought down the candidates to 15 to 5 or 10 to 4, Adhyaksh Ji would be sitting there with his data on every seat. There is no scope of pushing one's candidacy without merit," a senior BJP leader said.

Earlier, in the day, a core group had met for deliberations on the candidates. Several MPs were also invited for the same.

Jharkhand CM meets Amit Shah to finalise candidates for Assembly polls

Setting the tone for the party's election campaign in the upcoming Assembly polls in Jharkhand, Home Minister and BJP president Amit Shah on Wednesday described the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir as Prime Minister Narendra Modi's bold decision for securing India's integrity and asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to clear his party's stand on it.

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/amit-shahs-call-for-hindi-as-national-language-triggers-political-row-249706">Shah</a>, who kicked off the BJP's 'Janadesh Yatra' here, also addressed a rally and devoted most part of his speech on Article 370, a clear indication that the issue with fervour of nationalism will be at the top of party's campaign theme.

"By removing Article 370, Modi Ji has shown Pakistan its place and shown it to the world that Kashmir is an inalienable part of India. No one can raise an eye on Kashmir now," he said.

Accusing Congress of putting roadblocks when the Prime Minister takes bold decisions for securing India's integrity and security, Shah asked Congress to clarify whether it stands with India's interest or otherwise.

"When Article 370 and 35A were removed, Congress opposed it tooth and nail. Rahul Gandhi opposed surgical strikes, sought proof of airstrikes and supported the JNU 'tukde tukde' gang. Take a decision in which direction you want to move," he said.

Shah said that the BJP has always maintained that Article 370 is against the unity and integrity of India but Congress has always opposed the stand.

"Congress party must clarify whether they stand with India's interest or otherwise," he said adding that when Rahul Gandhi goes for campaigning in Haryana, Maharashtra and Jharkhand, he should tell the voters whether he is in support of the removal of Article 370 or opposed to it.

Suggesting the opposition that when the country's interests are in question, Shah said the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/bjp-eyes-200-seats-in-west-bengal-249864">BJP</a> always stood strong with the government on matters of the nation's security and integrity and stressed that no one should get bogged down by party politics.

He reminded the Congress that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, despite being in opposition, wholeheartedly supported the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1971 when Bangladesh got independence.

"When in the 1990s, Pakistan had raised the Kashmir issue in the United Nations, the then Prime Minister Narasimha Rao requested Atal Ji to present India's stance in UN, which he accepted willingly despite being in the opposition in Parliament," Shah said.

"As the elections are around the corner, the people of Jharkhand should decide whether they are with Modi Ji, who abrogated Article 370 or with them who wants it to be continued," the BJP president added.

Jharkhand, along with Haryana and Maharashtra, is set to hold assembly elections later this year.

With Kashmir top on agenda, Shah kicks off campaign in Jharkhand; slams Congress

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das Thursday announced the entire state as open defecation free (ODF).

The ODF target for the state was October 2, 2019, but Jharkhand has achieved it a year in advance, Das said at the Statehood Day function here.

Jharkhand was carved out from Bihar on November 15, 2000 by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.

The chief minister also announced Lohardaga, Hazaribagh and Deoghar as total electrified districts, joining Ranchi, Dhanbad, Ramgarh and Bokaro.

The electrification target for the entire state was December, 2018, he said.

The chief minister said Jharkhand is second in the country in terms of development growth, fourth in ease of doing business and number one in achieving health reforms.

Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das declares entire state open defecation free

Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das has said that the government's priority is to develop six backward districts of the state.

"Khunti, Simdega, Gumla, West Singhbhum, Pakur and Sahibganj are the most backward districts. The government's priority is to develop them," Das told a meeting of officials in Ranchi on Friday, an official release said.

Das asked deputy commissioners of these districts to focus on the most backward block and panchayat of these districts. Emphasis should be given to education, health, self-employment and infrastructure.

He asked the deputy commissioners to go to a backward village every week, meet the people, know their problems and solve them.

Das asked to take the services of retired teachers or youth on contract wherever teachers would be required in schools.

He asked to set up poultry society so that eggs could be served in midday meals in schools. The government would also procure eggs for midday meals.

He also asked to speed up electricity work and provide power under the 'Soubhagya Yozana' and solve drinking water problems.

The Jharkhand government will purchase sanitary napkins from Self-help Groups (SHGs) for distribution among schoolgirls, Chief Minister Raghubar Das has said.

The government had during the recent budget session taken this decision to empower women working in SHGs, the CM told reporters yesterday after inspecting a sanitary napkin manufacturing centre at Bagunhatu in Jamshedpur East constituency, his home turf.

Das had won five times in a row from the constituency since 1995.

Tata Steel, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, has been providing training to women in SHGs to make sanitary napkins.

Altogether 15 SHGs here have been engaged in napkin manufacturing work in Bagunhatu, the CM said, adding that the initiative is aimed at promoting self-employment.

The state that was spending around Rs 25 crores annually to buy sanitary napkins from contractors will now procure them from these self-help groups, he said.

Appealing to the media to promote locally made goods, he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi&#39;s dream of doubling the income of poor can be fulfilled by endorsing products of small and cottage industries.

The CM appreciated the women engaged in manufacturing the napkins and said the initiative will benefit families that do not have a proper source of income.
