Jennifer Bonjean, a lawyer for Kelly, has said he should spend fewer than 14 years in prison, and will in a filing next Monday explain why his "history and characteristics" justify a shorter sentence. 
 
Bonjean`s office declined to comment. 
 
Kelly, whose full name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, faces a minimum 10-year term at his June 29 sentencing. 
He is among the most prominent people convicted of sexual misbehaviour during the #MeToo movement against such conduct by prominent men.

Much of the case turned on accusations related to six women. 
 
They included the singer Aaliyah, who prosecutors said Kelly fraudulently married when she was 15 to conceal abuse from when she was 12 or 13. Aaliyah died in 2001. 
 
Jurors needed a little over a day to convict Kelly last Sept. 27 on all nine counts he faced. 
 
The charges included racketeering and eight counts of violating the Mann Act, which prohibits transporting people across state lines for prostitution. 
 
Many of Kelly`s accusers were Black, differentiating his conviction from those of comedian Bill Cosby and movie producer Harvey Weinstein since #MeToo began in 2017. Cosby`s conviction was overturned last June.

While a ruling has not yet been issued on the recent move out of Chicago, New York-based prosecutors have urged that Kelly remain jailed.

"The purposes of the enterprise were to promote R&nbsp;Kelly's music and the R&nbsp;Kelly brand and to recruit women and girls to engage in illegal sexual activity with Kelly," prosecutors said in the Brooklyn indictment.

Kelly, who was free on bond in the Illinois state case, was taken into custody again on Thursday evening by New York City police detectives and federal agents on as he walked his dog in Chicago his lawyer, Steve Greenberg, said.

The R&amp;B singer made a brief court appearance in US&nbsp;District Court in Chicago on Friday and was ordered back on Monday for further proceedings. 
 
Brooklyn prosecutors urged in a court filing that Kelly be held without bond on the federal charges while they seek to have him sent to New York for a hearing that has yet to be scheduled. 
 
Greenberg said in a statement posted to Twitter that the federal charges mostly stem from conduct that is "decades old" and already part of the state case or previous allegations that Kelly had been acquitted of.

"He and his lawyers look forward to his day in court, to the truth coming out and to his vindication from what has been an unprecedented assault by others for their own personal gain," he added.
