Upon arrival, he was warmly received at the airport by Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said. The two leaders discussed ways to further enhance defence ties and deepen the strategic relationship between India and Oman. Expressing appreciation on social media platform X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said for the gracious welcome extended to him in Muscat.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived this evening in Muscat, Oman, on a two-day visit in the last leg of his three-nation tour. The Prime Minister arrived in Oman after completing his successful visits to Jordan and Ethiopia.
 
At the Muscat airport, Mr Modi was received by the Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said. They had discussions on strengthening India-Oman defence cooperation and advancing the strategic partnership.
 
The Prime Minister took the social media platform ‘X’ to extend gratitude to Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al, for the warm welcome at Muscat airport. 
 
Later, at the hotel, the Prime Minister was welcomed by the Indian community members. Various dances, including Omani Traditional Dance, Blend of Indian classical, Kuchipudi and Kathak, Rajasthan Ghoomer, Karnataka Folk Dance – Yakshana and Bollywood free style were performed by students and others. A Gujarati song was also sung. 
 
At ‘X’, Mr Modi said, Oman is a land of enduring friendship and deep historical connections with India. He said this visit offers an opportunity to explore new avenues of collaboration and add fresh momentum to the partnership between both countries.
 
During his two-day visit, Prime Minister Modi will hold a comprehensive review of the entire spectrum of the bilateral relations with the Sultan of Oman tomorrow and also exchange perspectives on regional and international issues of mutual interest. He is expected to address business leaders from both countries at a business forum.
 
PM Modi will also interact with students and members of the Indian community who are eagerly waiting for his arrival. The Prime Minister is visiting the friendly nation on the invitation of the Head of State of the Sultanate of Oman, Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. Mr. Modi is accompanied by a high-level delegation.
 
This visit is of great significance as it will be taking place when India and Oman are celebrating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations.

Later, members of the Indian diaspora accorded the India Prime Minister a vibrant reception at his hotel. The cultural programme featured a mix of Omani traditional performances and Indian art forms such as Kuchipudi, Kathak, Rajasthan’s Ghoomer, Karnataka’s Yakshagana, Bollywood freestyle dance, and a Gujarati song. In a rare development, the Indian government had announced national mourning for one day on January 13, 2020 in his honour.&nbsp;

India's minister of minority affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi had visited the country on January 14 last year and had his conveyed condolences on behalf of leadership and Indian government on passing away of the late Sultan Qaboos.

"Sultan Qaboos was the architect of the special ties between India and Oman. He had studied in India and always maintained a special relationship with India. Under his leadership, India and Oman became strategic partners and our mutually beneficial, comprehensive partnership strengthened and scaled newer heights," the Indian government added.
