<p>Former Conservative leader William Hague said on Tuesday (May 31) that Johnson could face a vote among his own MPs to end his tenure in power as soon as next week.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Hague told Times Radio: "The fuse is getting closer to the dynamite here and it's speeding up." He added that it was "just another indication the Conservative Party is moving faster towards a vote". <p>Another Conservative MP, John Baron, withdrew support for UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, making him the fourth Tory parliamentarian to do so in the past one week following the publication of Sue Gray report which blamed the PM for allowing parties in Downing Street and Whitehall during Covid lockdown.</p>

<p>Baron, David Simmonds, Angela Richardson and Julian Sturdy joined the other 22 Tory MPs demanding Johnson’s resignation over the “shameful” parties.</p>

<p>Baron, first elected in 2001, said he was withdrawing his support because he believed Johnson had "knowingly" misled parliament —a charge the PM denies.</p>

<p>"Given the scale of rule-breaking in No. 10, I cannot accept that the prime minister was unaware. Therefore his repeated assurances in parliament that there was no rule-breaking is simply not credible," he said in a statement.</p>

<p>"Having always said I would consider all the available evidence before deciding, I'm afraid the prime minister no longer enjoys my support - I can no longer give him the benefit of the doubt."</p>

<p>Simmonds, who was elected in 2019, said Johnson had lost the confidence of the public.</p>

<p>"Accordingly, it is time for him to step down so that new leadership can take forward the important work of the government," he said in a statement.</p>

<p>Johnson can be thrown out of power if 54 lawmakers write a letter of no-confidence motion against him. According to BBC, only 18 MPs have written the letter, well short of the required number.</p>

<p>UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson would not receive further fines for the lockdown-breaching parties, British media reported after the Metropolitan (Met) police finished their probe into such gatherings in Downing Street and Whitehall during the pandemic.</p>

<p>So far, 126 fixed-penalty notices have been issued by the police after covering all 12 events.</p>

<p>The 126 fines were issued to 83 different people, the Met said. There were 53 FPNs issued to 35 men and 73 to 48 women, meaning 28 people received between two and five penalties.</p>

<p>Out of those, Boris Johnson and his wife Carrie&nbsp;have each received a £50 fine last month for breaking Covid laws at a birthday party for the PM in Downing Street in June 2020.</p>

<p>It was expected that Johnson would receive more fixed penalty notices after a probe found that he attended up to six of the lockdown gatherings.</p>

<p>“The Met has confirmed they are taking no further action as regards the prime minister,” The Guardian quoted Boris Johnson’s official spokesperson as saying.</p>
