India was granted consular access to Nikhil Gupta on at least three occasions, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.

Gupta is jailed in a Czech prison post US indictment accusing him of involvement in a foiled murder plot to kill Khalistani Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil.

External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi, during a weekly media briefing also said that India was extending necessary consular assistance to Gupta.

"An Indian national is currently in the custody of the Czech authorities pending a request for extradition to the US. We have received consular access at least on three occasions," Bagchi said at his weekly media briefing in response to a question on the case involving Gupta.

"We are extending necessary consular assistance as per requirement," he said.

Last week, Gupta's family approached the Supreme Court and pleaded to issue a direction to the central government to intervene in the extradition proceedings and ensure a fair trial in the case.

"The family of this person has gone to our Supreme Court and this is a process that is going on in the Supreme Court. I do not think it will be appropriate for us to comment on issues like jurisdiction. We will wait for what the Supreme Court has to say," Bagchi said.

He said that New Delhi was very seriously looking into the allegations and that some inputs have also been shared by the United States on the matter. The External Affairs Ministry spokesperson said that India has set up a high-level panel to probe the accusations.

"As we have shared earlier, we take it seriously. The inputs have been provided by the US side and a high-level inquiry committee has been constituted to look into all relevant aspects of the matter," Mr Bagchi said. "This fact has also been noted by these members of the Congress. I do not have any further update to it," he added.

"So we very sincerely have told the Canadians saying that look it's up to you, I mean your choice whether you would like us to pursue it, further look into it or not," he added.

"The point was when Americans brought up some issues and the two issues are not necessarily the same. When they brought up that issue the Americans told us some specific things. What happens in international relations from time to time such challenges can arise," EAM Jaishankar said.

Earlier in November, the United States had charged Gupta with murder-for-hire over a conspiracy to assassinate Pannun, who is a dual citizen of America and Canada, the US attorney's office in Manhattan said in a statement.

US Attorney Damian Williams announced charges against Gupta, who was arrested by Czech authorities in the month of June this year in conformance to the bilateral extradition treaty between the United States and the Czech Republic.

Following this development, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi released a statement saying that the case, allegedly linking Gupta to an Indian official was a "matter of concern" and was contrary to government policy.

On the other hand, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said alleged the involvement of "agents of the Indian government" in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

However, India has rebuffed the claims calling them "absurd and motivated".

"In a way, it's a human failing. But I think today it is harming the world. It is harming the world because, on key issues confronting the world, the UN is getting less and less effective," he said.

"And I can also tell you the global sentiment. I mean, today, if you ask 200 countries in the world, do you want reform or don't you want reform? A very large number of countries would say, yes, we want reform...," he added while emphasising that nations are urging for reform efforts in the UN Security Council to deal with the prevailing challenges.

Over this nexus, Wray said that "a blending of lines between terrorists and criminals was now visible in cyberspace as well. Terror incidents like 9/11 and the Mumbai attacks have changed the way in which nations respond to terror threats," according to a statement released by NIA.

The NIA DG also raised concerns about how the threats in the cyber domain were on the rise and the ways in which digital space was being extensively exploited by the extremists in order to propagate radical views across the globe.

Against the backdrop of Western media reports over alleged plans to kill Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun and Intel shared with India by the US, the MEA has responded. New Delhi confirmed having received US inputs on the "nexus between organized criminals, gun runners, terrorists and others" and said that it takes "such inputs seriously since it impinges on our own national security interests as well'.&nbsp;

In response to media queries on reports of discussions between India and US on security matters, spokesperson for Minister of External Affairs (MEA) Arindam Bagchi in a press release said, "During the course of recent discussions on India-US security cooperation, the US side shared some inputs pertaining to nexus between organised criminals, gun runners, terrorists, and others. The inputs are a cause of concern for both countries and they decided to take necessary follow up action."

This comes after a Financial Times report while quoting multiple sources aware of the matter reported that US thwarted a plot to assassinate Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who holds dual citizenship - American and Canadian.

The report also claimed that Washington raised this issued with the Indian government and warned that it has apprehensions over India's involvement in the alleged conspiracy.&nbsp;

Bagchi also added that "issues in the context of US inputs are already being examined by relevant departments."&nbsp;

Pannun earlier shocked the nation with his grave threats to Air India passengers, leaving open the scars of the 1985 Kanishka bombings.&nbsp;

However, the report while shedding light on the plot did not provide any clarity if it "did not say whether the protest to New Delhi led the plotters to abandon their plan, or whether the FBI intervened and foiled a scheme already in motion."

The report was solely backed by information from FT sources who sought anonymity while sharing the intel as the case at hand is highly sensitive.&nbsp;

Although the exact date was not revealed, the report claimed that Washington shared the intel related to Pannun with its allies after the Vancouver killing of another India-designated Khalistani terrorist and Canadian Hardeep Singh Nijjar on June 18, when he was fatally shot outside a gurudwara.&nbsp;

As far as flagging the Pannun assassination plot to the Indian government is concerned, the report while quoting an anonymous source said the warning was issued to New Delhi following Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's state visit to Washington which took place from June 21 to 24.&nbsp;

Giving further details on the alleged indictment, the Financial Times report said that the US justice department is now "debating whether to unseal the indictment and make the allegations public or wait until Canada finishes its investigation into Nijjar’s murder."&nbsp;

However, there have been no official statement from US or the Justice Department over the matter.&nbsp;

Moreover, the US National Security Council told FT that US does “not comment on ongoing law enforcement matters or private diplomatic discussions with our partners."&nbsp;

“Upholding the safety and security of US citizens is paramount," the NSC reportedly added.&nbsp;
