His family and legal team say this falls short of what the court ordered," it added.&nbsp;The former captains made three specific requests in their renewed appeal. First, they called for the medical board ordered by the Supreme Court to be allowed to carry out a full and independent assessment of Khan’s health, including concerns about reported loss of vision in his right eye. Second, they urged authorities to implement the weekly family visits restored by the court without interruptions or administrative delays. Third, they called for any medical treatment recommended following the assessment to be provided without delay.&nbsp;The group reiterated that it was not attempting to take a position on Pakistan’s domestic political or legal disputes. "We're not asking Pakistan for anything unusual, just that a court order most countries would take for granted is actually carried out. The bill, in question, was signed into law, on Tuesday (June 27), said a report by AFP, citing a state spokesman, and could pave the way for exiled former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s return.&nbsp;

<h2>What is the bill about?</h2>

The Elections (Amendment) Bill 2023, was passed by the Pakistan national assembly&nbsp;on Sunday and&nbsp;limits how long lawmakers can be disqualified from office. Additionally, it also allows the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to announce the dates of the elections&nbsp;unilaterally without having to consult the president.

The legislation had already passed the Pakistan Senate&nbsp;on June 16. It was also previously reported that with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-backed (PTI) President Arif Alvi out of the country on the hajj pilgrimage and Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani taking charge as the acting president, the bill would be passed soon.&nbsp;

<h2>About Nawaz Sharif’s exile</h2>

The 73-year-old former Pakistan PM was disqualified for life back in 2017 by the country’s Supreme Court and was later convicted in corruption cases by the accountability courts. Sharif had served three times as the prime minister before being ousted over allegations he was later convicted of and sentenced to seven years in jail.

In 2019, Sharif was granted medical bail and flew to the United Kingdom where he has remained ever since. Meanwhile, in Pakistan, his family-run Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party’s win, last year, made his brother Shehbaz Sharif the prime minister.&nbsp;

The country is set to hold general elections later this year. However, aside from the lifetime disqualification, Nawaz is yet to receive verdicts on two anti-corruption cases against him and would have to get the charges against him overturned to compete in the upcoming elections.&nbsp;

<h2>Bill signed into law: Report</h2>

A report by the news agency AFP, citing a government spokesman, said that the senate chairman in the absence of incumbent president Alvi and as the acting president signed the bill into law, on Monday.&nbsp;

“The ruling PML-N and its coalition partners want to bring Nawaz Sharif back,” political analyst Hasan Askari told AFP, adding that they have passed the bill to “achieve this objective”.&nbsp;

“Nawaz Sharif will be the main campaigner for PML-N in the next election,” said Askari.&nbsp;

While Nawaz’s return would be “very helpful” for the party “politically”, it is not clear he himself would contest in the elections, said the political analyst to the news agency.&nbsp;

Geo News, quoting sources, said that the man, who has not been identified, was later taken into custody and kept at an undisclosed location for interrogation.

According to the report, the suspect made his way to the prime minister's house by passing through three different paths.

Officials of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Islamabad police are scanning the CCTV footage of the suspect and trying to find out how was he able to enter the PM’s house.

The police claimed that the man is a resident of Afghanistan, and they are trying to find out whether he has any past criminal record.

Meanwhile, in another development, PM Sharif is currently chairing a meeting of the federal cabinet on Sunday to discuss several matters related to the recent political and constitutional crises in the country.&nbsp;

PM Shehbaz has not yet delineated the agenda for the meeting, however,&nbsp;President Dr Arif Alvi's decision to return the&nbsp;Supreme Court (Practice and Procedure) Bill 2023,&nbsp;Justice Athar Minallah’s dissenting note and Supreme Court's verdict on polls would come under discussion, GEO News has reported.

The meeting will take place at the PM House with the prime minister in the chair to devise a strategy to address the matters surrounding the bill.&nbsp;

The report, quoting sources, further said that the cabinet is expected to also approve the decisions taken during the National Security Council (NSC) meeting that took place on Friday.&nbsp;

On Saturday, President Alvi returned the bill that seeks to curtail the Supreme Court chief justice's powers and asked the government to reconsider.

The bill seeks to clip the powers of the chief justice, especially relating to taking cases suo motu&nbsp;and the formation of benches.

Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had strongly condemned the move to pass the legislation and said it is an "attack on the judiciary".

After Pak PM Sharif's plea, international community pledges around $10bn for flood relief

After informing that his aide Shahbaz Gill was arrested, former Pakistan prime minister and PTI chief &nbsp;Imran Khan told a Pakistan media channel that he may also be arrested asserting that “getting arrested is a small thing”.

Imran claimed he is fighting for “real freedom” and was ready to lay down his life. “I can’t stay&nbsp;as a slave,” the PTI chief told a media channel as&nbsp;reports claimed security has been stepped up around Imran’s residence in Islamabad over fears the PTI chief may be arrested.

However, Pakistan’s interior minister Rana Sanaullah said the report was unverified as speculation mounted that Punjab police officials were sent to Imran’s house in Islamabad. PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry claimed PTI supporters would “protect” the former prime minister.

Sanaullah said police cannot be sent without the permission of the government. Islamabad police stated that&nbsp;it hadn’t carried out any operation and urged people not to pay attention to false information.

Imran’s party was thrown in turmoil after former minister Fawad Chaudhry in a tweet claimed Gill was “abducted” by “people who came in vehicles without number plates”. Imran declared that it was was “shameful act” and alleged that it was an “abduction” and “not an arrest”.

Police in Pakistan, however, said the former minister was arrested for inciting rebellion. Pakistan’s interior minister Rana Sanaullah said Gill was arrested on charges of sedition.

Meanwhile, reports said an Islamabad court granted police two-day custody of Gill.&nbsp;The police had&nbsp;registered a number of cases against Shahbaz Gill&nbsp;including waging war against the state and abetting mutiny.

Imran was forced to step down as prime minister after he lost the no-confidence vote in Parliament in a dramatic political drama. Shehbaz Sharif&nbsp;became the new prime minister as the country battles a deepening economic crisis amid political tensions with Imran’s party.
