He cut it into two parts and gave it to me. He asked me to wear one in my hair from Kochi to Singapore since it would wither by the time I reached. He told me to keep the second one in my handbag so I could wear it on the onward journey from Singapore. I put it in my carry bag."&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Navya admitted that she was not aware of the rules and had unknowingly broken a law. “&nbsp;</p><p>“It was a mistake I made unknowingly. Ignorance is no excuse. For bringing a 15 cm jasmine string, officials asked me to pay a fine of 1,980 dollars.” The actress stated that she had to pay up the fine within 28 days.&nbsp; The actress took the incident lightly and jokingly pointed out that her jasmine flowers were worth more than a lakh.</p>

<p>According to folklore, the Chera kings assembled all the local rulers and chieftains for an annual month-long gathering at the Vamana Moorthy Temple. The king asked every household to celebrate Onam festivities when they could not go to Thrikkakara.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a tweet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "Greetings on the auspicious occasion of Onam! May this festival further the spirit of happiness, well-being and prosperity in our society."</p>

<p>The office of Vice-President in its tweet wrote, "On the auspicious occasion of Onam, I extend my heartiest greetings and congratulations to the people of the country. Onam is celebrated in the memory of Mahabali, the famous mythological king of the Kerala region during whose ideal public welfare rule, peace and prosperity prevailed in the state."</p>

<p>Calling it a time to celebrate sacrifice, loyalty and satisfaction, the Vice President said "Onam is a festival of prosperity, mercy, compassion, sacrifice, loyalty and satisfaction. I wish that this auspicious occasion brings peace, harmony, prosperity and happiness in our country."</p>

<p>The traditional ceremony began with the lighting of the lamp by thantri, the head priest Maheshwararu Mohanaru accompanied by melsanthi or chief-priest, Unnikrishnan Namboodiri at 11 am.</p>

<p>After the ceremony, the priests started offering Onasadya dishes, including sweets, on a banana leaf kept in front of a ceremonial lamp.</p>

<p>The feast continued till 2.30 pm. Offerings will continue till the festivities come to a&nbsp;conclusion on Wednesday. Ceremonial prayers known as Kalabhabhishekam, sahasrakalasam and laksharchana will be performed during the Onam festival days.</p>
