"Nuclear weapons must not be used and nuclear wars must not be fought. The threat or use of nuclear weapons should be opposed," the statement read. China further emphasised the need to protect civilians. "Parties to the conflict should strictly abide by international humanitarian law, and avoid attacking civilians or civilian facilities," it added.&nbsp;

"Conflict and war benefit no one. All parties must stay rational and exercise restraint, avoid fanning the flames and aggravating tensions and prevent the crisis from deteriorating further or even spiralling out of control. We oppose the development, and use of biological and chemical weapons by any country under any circumstances. There are no winners in conflict wars,” the proposal said.

Before the release of the proposal, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called it a crucial step. “I think that, in general, the fact that China started talking about peace in Ukraine, I think that it is not bad. It is important for us that all states are on our side, on the side of justice,” Zelensky said on Friday.&nbsp;

On Thursday, China abstained when a nonbinding resolution was approved by the UN General Assembly that appealed to Russia to withdraw its forces and end hostilities in Ukraine. It is among the 16 countries that either voted in opposition or abstained on around five previous resolutions on the Ukraine war.&nbsp;

Nuclear apocalypse is a scary scenario. Aftermath of a global nuclear war does not paint a happy picture for humankind. The nuclear winter&nbsp;and sheer downfall of human civilization is definitely not what the survivors would like to see.&nbsp;Though the nuclear apocalypse would have a global effect, researchers are now saying that people residing in some specific parts of the world have a higher chance of survival.

These pockets of hope, so to speak, are Australia, New Zealand, Iceland along with two Pacific Ocean island countries (Solomon islands, Vanuatu).

The study in this regard has been published in the journal Risk Analysis. It says that these countries would be able to produce enough food for their populations and will even be vital in restoring the human civilisation once more.

For this study, the authors compared 38 island countries on 13 factors which they said would predict which ones stood the best chance of surviving in a post-apocalyptical world.

Australia and New Zealand fared best in the analysis, partly because, they are far removed from places that would spark nuclear war.

Other than this, Australia scored well as it has a good infrastructure, huge energy surplus, high health security and more. However, its close ties with the US and UK made it susceptible to becoming a target of nuclear attacks. New Zealand fared better on this count.

Ingram, who doesn't belong to the group of scientists who will decide the clock's position, said that if a nuclear war breaks out in the world, billions of people will be killed because of its effects on the climate, as it would lead to starvation and disasters.&nbsp;

Ingram said that however, said that there is still hope amid the concern of disaster looming upon the world.

"I think as the threats get larger and that we become more aware and we understand them better, there is hope. I think there is a growing awareness, I detect, that business as usual is just not an option,” Ingram said.&nbsp;

On Tuesday, the atomic scientists will make an announcement about the doomsday clock, whether its timing will change to 10:00 am (1500 GMT).

The cable revealed that the US officials informed NATO allies this month that the arrival of the upgraded B61-12 air-dropped gravity bomb, which was originally scheduled for next spring, is now planned for this December, the report added.&nbsp;

US President Joe Biden’s approval ratings appear to have improved in response to his actions against the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

According to several surveys done post the invasion of Ukraine, Biden’s approval rating rose by 5 points or more standing at about 42 per cent in an average of all the pollsters.

Politico/Morning Consult’s survey put Bident's overall approval rating at 45 per cent, while the Marist College/NPR/PBS NewsHour poll said that the president’s rating improved to 42 per cent.

Notably, these pollsters had Biden's approval rating at 40 per cent in their polls taken before the invasion.

According to the Marist College/NPR/PBS NewsHour poll, the majority of Americans (52 per cent) approve of how Biden is handling the situation in Ukraine, up from 34 per cent last week, while 44 per cent disapprove, down from 50 per cent last time.

Around 46 per cent of Americans say Biden’s approach to the conflict in Ukraine is on the mark, while 43 per cent say he is being too cautious, and only 6 per cent think he is being too aggressive.

The survey pointed out that Biden’s rise in approval ratings is predominantly among his Democratic base, while noting a moderate gain&nbsp;among independents also.

The poll says Biden’s decision to levy sanctions against Russia has enjoyed a rare, bipartisan consensus.

“Most Americans, regardless of party, support these sanctions, and nearly seven in ten favour them even if it means higher energy prices domestically,” the survey said.

However, there is a sense of apprehension among the US citizens, who are fearful of ramifications from the Russian war, and how it could affect them.

Around 78 per cent of Americans are concerned that Russia will wage cyberattacks in the United States and that a broader war will erupt in Europe.

And around 70 per cent are worried that nuclear weapons will be used.

Additionally, most&nbsp;polling&nbsp;has indicated that Americans&nbsp;are worried&nbsp;far more about inflation and the economy than this war.
