Skywatchers are in for a rare celestial treat as the only “Blue Moon” of 2026 is set to appear on May 31. The term refers to the rarity of the event, not its colour. At the same time, Earth is passing through debris left behind by Halley's Comet, triggering a meteor shower that peaked in early May. Together, these events are creating a stunning night sky for astronomy enthusiasts.

In the image shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, the Sun is shown crossing the celestial equator in the sky because of which autumn is coming to the Northern Hemisphere. 
 
Posting the picture, the space agency wrote, "Winter is coming. Day and night are split in half today, as the Sun crossed the celestial equator in the sky at 07:50 BST/08:50 CEST marking the autumn equinox in the Northern Hemisphere. This #Meteosat image was taken at 09:00 BST/10:00 CEST this morning."

European Space Agency releases photo of Earth split in day and night

Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Uranus, Mars, and the Moon aligned in an arc across the evening sky on Monday, with some visible to the naked eye. This is often called "a planetary parade" and was visible after sunset in the west.

The skyline of London at night may look very different from what it looks today as new rules have been drafted by the city authorities according to which skyscrapers will be required to dim their lights overnight.

The step will “cut light pollution and save energy”, as stated by the City of London Corporation, which is the governing body of the financial district.

After the new rules are adopted, the high-rise buildings in the Square Mile – the area in London where most of the high-rise buildings remain clustered – will be required to switch off unnecessary lights in the building after sunset.

The new buildings will have to compulsorily follow the rules. The authorities will encourage the existing buildings to adopt the policy, however, it won't be mandatory.

The authorities have introduced the rule as an increasing amount of evidence shows the light pollution's devastating impact on human health and biodiversity as well as the wasted energy.

What is the new policy?

The new policy has been stated in the 'Lighting Supplementary Planning Document', as reported by Britain’s Financial Times.

According to the plan, different curfews will be imposed on various ‘brightness zones’ across the capital. If the rule is implemented, businesses in heritage and residential areas will have to switch off lights at 10 pm and businesses in tourist and cultural areas will be allowed to keep the lights on till 11 pm.

In commercial areas, people are allowed to keep unnecessary lights on until midnight. City of London Corporation planning and transportation committee chairman Shravan Joshi said that currently, the document is under the process of consultation.

“The City is a unique place in which 24/7 business districts and busy transport hubs rub up against historic buildings and residential neighbourhoods,” he said.

"The strategy laid out in this document is aimed at ensuring an intelligent, sensitive approach to lighting which ensures the City is safe and accessible while protecting its historic character and the amenity of our residents,” Joshi added.

The stunning images were captured by&nbsp;Stuart Shaw,&nbsp;a New Zealand science technician&nbsp;who is currently stationed at Scott Base for the winter.

Reportedly, there is a significant deposit of aerosols in the stratosphere above the continent, which has contributed to the lilac sky. The volcanic eruptions usually release these aerosols which can hang and circulate around for months, often bending the light from Sun and creating these mesmerizing views.&nbsp;

The palace gave no details on what had prompted the medical attention, and some royal correspondents said they hoped the official version of events painted the full picture.

"We must hope that we can rely on what the palace is now telling us," said Nicholas Witchell, the BBC's royal correspondent.

A royal source said the queen had stayed at the King Edward VII hospital in central London for practical reasons and that her medical team had taken a cautious approach.

Elizabeth, who is queen of 15 other realms including Australia, Canada and New Zealand, returned to her desk for work on Thursday afternoon and was undertaking some light duties, the source said.

A&nbsp;large&nbsp;meteor illuminated the night sky in&nbsp;Norway early on&nbsp;Sunday morning.&nbsp;At least some of it seems to have also come rumbling down near Oslo, the capital of the country.&nbsp;

Steinar Midtskogen, a spokesperson for Norwegian Meteor Network, told CNN, “The meteor lit up the sky for a brief time as if broad daylight just after 1 am.”&nbsp;

In an email, Midtskogen said,&nbsp;"A minute later or more a loud rumbling sound could be heard over a large area, perhaps up to 100 km away from where the meteor was seen straight overhead."&nbsp;&nbsp;

Some people, who were&nbsp;close to the meteor's path, also&nbsp;felt&nbsp;a shock wave, Midtskogen&nbsp;added.&nbsp;

"Doors and hatches were blown open and there were gusts of wind. No damage has been reported, though," Midtskogen said.&nbsp;

The meteor&nbsp;seems to have fallen&nbsp;at a&nbsp;distance&nbsp;of&nbsp;around&nbsp;24 km&nbsp;from&nbsp;Oslo,&nbsp;the&nbsp;expert said.&nbsp;

The spokesperson said as the&nbsp;meteors over Norway are not uncommon,&nbsp;the network has a number of cameras continuously monitoring the sky.&nbsp;
