Mahmoud Abbas, President of the State of Palestine and the Palestinian National Authority, spoke at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Friday.

He said, "Israel is launching campaigns... they are giving freedom to terrorists to kill Palestinians. They are looting their land... burning their homes... forcing them to destroy their homes with their own hands, all of this with official protection. Can you imagine what is happening? Israel is saying that either you demolish your house yourself, or else I will."

"Israel killed Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. She was killed by the bullet of a sniper... the sniper recognised that he did kill her. Apart from Palestinian nationality, she was also an American national," he added.

He blamed Israel for attacking Muslim and Christian holy sites. He accused Israel of being an 'apartheid regime', and asked "Why isn't Israel being held accountable by the United Nations?"

Abbas said Israel has committed heinous crimes against Palestinians and destroyed an ample number of Palestinian villages. He accused Israel of having "deliberately committed these massacres."

The most recent was against Gaza. "The New York Times, a US-based newspaper reported that 67 children were killed in this attack. We want to know why did Israel kill them?," Abbas said.

He said he would like to ask Israel to take charge of this massacre and apologize to the Palestinians. He asked the international community and the International Criminal Court (ICC) to hold Israel accountable for the crimes it has committed.

The Palestinians are still living under Israeli occupation. Referring to the Oslo accords, Abbas told the assembly, "We do not want to be the only party to be respecting the agreements signed in 1993... those agreements are not followed anymore...Israel was the first to violate them...until when shall we be the only party to respect it?"

Social media users have mocked a Hong Kong video of youngsters playing the flute while wearing double masks. Prior to China's National Day on October 1, the advertisement, produced by Hong Kong's Education Bureau, was posted online.

Additionally, it follows an earlier announcement by Hong Kong that Covid restrictions, including masking, would be further extended. It is one of the few cities that still adhere to rigorous Covid regulations after the pandemic.

The "Young China Says" video, which focuses on Hong Kong's young, features a range of schoolchildren displaying their artistic talents in singing, calligraphy, martial arts, and musical acts.

For the more than five-minute movie, more than 400 students from 41 high schools were invited to take part. On September 21, the Hong Kong Education Bureau released the video in honour of China's national day, which falls on October 1.

The video cuts to two masked schoolgirls playing the flute side by side at the 45-second mark, with what looks to be a second flap covering the instrument. Users mocked the advertisement on social media.

The footage was made available after Hong Kong declared earlier in the week that Covid limitations, such as social withdrawal and the wearing of masks in cars and certain public places, will be in effect until at least October 5.

Following Moscow's announcement of a recruitment drive this week for duty in the Ukraine military operation, Kazakh officials said on Friday that there had been more visitors to Russia's neighbouring country.

President Vladimir Putin ordered Russia's first mobilisation since World War II on Wednesday and supported a proposal to annex large portions of Ukraine, which caused a flurry of conscription-eligible males to leave the nation.

The second-longest border in the world, which consists of 30 road checkpoints, was particularly crowded at four of them, according to a statement from Kazakhstan's border guard service, which did not provide any arrivals data.

Reuters spoke with a witness who requested anonymity out of concern for his safety. The witness said they had been in line at the border checkpoint since Thursday morning and had noticed unusually heavy traffic coming from Russia as well as prolonged, thorough inspections of Russian vehicles by Russian border guards.

The first 23 foreigners to enter Bhutan since the Himalayan nation reopened its borders following the Covid-19 pandemic more than two years ago arrived on Friday. Officials hope that tourism would help the region's economy recover.

The nation, which is wedged between China and India and is renowned for its natural beauty and historic Buddhist culture, first welcomed affluent tourists in 1974. After discovering its first incidence of Covid-19 in March 2020, it closed its borders to travellers, a significant source of income.

With fewer than 800,000 residents, the constitutional monarchy has reported little over 61,000 infections and 21 fatalities, but the $3 billion economy shrank over the last two fiscal years, forcing more people into poverty.

After welcoming the first travellers to the nation's sole international airport in Paro, close to the capital city of Thimphu, Dorji Dhradhul, Director General of the Tourism Council of Bhutan (TCB), declared that tourism for his organisation meant more than just financial gain.

He claimed that the small nation was eager to "very much be a part of the whole world."

He said, speaking from Bhutan to Reuters, "We feel through tourism we can do that... take advantage of their support and goodwill."

The officials reported that each guest who arrived on the inaugural aircraft from Kathmandu in neighbouring Nepal was given tiny packages of organic honey, tea, Bhutanese turmeric, and a local SIM card as a present.

Bhutan increased its Sustainable Development Fee in July from the $65 it had been charging for three decades to $200 per visitor per night in order to attract more wealthy visitors. In order to balance the carbon footprints of visitors, officials claimed the fees will be used for initiatives including tree planting, training for tourism employees, maintaining hiking routes, lowering dependency on fossil fuels, and electrifying transportation vehicles.

According to TCB data, there were 315,600 visitors in 2019, an increase of 15.1 per cent from the previous year. During the three years before to the pandemic, travellers helped the economy by spending an average of $84 million annually.
