As soon as the Tesla owner and billionaire Elon Musk acquired Twitter, he immediately fired the firm's CEO Parag Agarwal, and two other top executives.

However, as per media reports, the senior executive won't be leaving empty-handed. Agarwal will get all of his 100 per cent unvested equity awards, Bloomberg reported.

Reuters cited that the awards to be given imply that he will receive an estimated amount of $42 million, as per research conducted by Equilar.

Serie A soccer player Pablo Mari faces at least two months out of the game after an operation on Friday for stab wounds from an attack in an Italian supermarket that left one man dead.

Milan's Niguarda hospital said its trauma team had reconstructed two muscles in the back of the 29-year-old Spanish centre-back on loan at Monza from Premier League club Arsenal.

"This type of muscle injury usually requires two months of rest before one can resume physical activities," it said, adding that surgery went well and rehabilitation would follow.

"I was lucky, because I saw a person die in front of me," Mari was quoted as saying by Sky News in the aftermath of the attack.

On Friday he said that he and his family were "all fine" despite what they went through the day before.

"We want to thank all the messages of support and affection that we are receiving," he said on Twitter.

Italian police said on Thursday a 46-year-old with mental health issues was detained after the attack in a Carrefour supermarket and was under guard in a psychiatric ward.

The assailant used a kitchen knife available for sale in the supermarket in the town of Assago. A 47-year-old Bolivian national who worked at the supermarket in a shopping mall died, while another employee and four customers were injured.

Team Shocked

Carrefour's Italian arm said knives would be removed from store displays following talks with the Milan prosecutor's office and further safety measures may follow.

Il Corriere della Sera newspaper said one of the first people to restrain the attacker was former Napoli, Inter Milan and Bologna soccer player Massimo Tarantino.

Tarantino saw the suspect "scream, scream and that's it", the 51-year-old retired player was quoted as saying by Italian media.

None of the wounded people are in life-threatening conditions.

Monza have asked the Italian football league to postpone their match on Monday at home to Bologna as the team is "absolutely in a state of shock", chief executive Adriano Galliani said.

The game, however, will not be rescheduled, a source from the Serie A said.

Newly-promoted Monza, owned by former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, are 15th in the 20-team league.

Berlusconi, now a member of Italy's Senate or upper house, expressed support for those wounded and sent condolences to the relatives of the victim. "A hug to Pablo Mari from 'my' Monza", he added on Instagram.

Iraqi lawmakers approved a new government on Thursday, a key step forward after bitter infighting between Shiite Muslim factions and deadly violence following contested elections.

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani's 21-member cabinet is expected to face myriad challenges.

The oil-rich but war-ravaged country is plagued by endemic corruption, rampant unemployment and decaying infrastructure.

"Our ministerial team will shoulder the responsibility at this critical period, in which the world is witnessing tremendous political and economic changes and conflicts," Sudani's office said in a statement after the vote.

Those changes will "add new challenges to our country, which is already suffering from accumulated crises, that have had economic, social, humanitarian and environmental impacts on our citizens", it added.

It said that Sudani's government obtained the confidence of parliament, but did not gave a breakdown of the vote which took place by a show of hands.

It added, however, that 253 MPs out of parliament's 329 members were present at the session.

Sudani, 52, was chosen to form the new government on October 13 following months of infighting between key Shiite Muslim factions that plunged the country into political deadlock.

Elections 'within a year'

The movement of firebrand cleric Moqtada, Sudani's rival in Iraq's majority Shiite camp, refused to join the government.

But Sudani had the backing of the Coalition for the Administration of the State, which includes the Coordination Framework, an alliance of powerful pro-Iran Shiite factions that hold 138 out of 329 seats in parliament.

Other members include a Sunni grouping led by parliament speaker Mohammed al-Halbussi, and two key Kurdish parties.

Of the 21 ministries nominated, 12 posts go to Shiites supported by the Coordination Framework, six to Sunni leaders, two to Kurds and one to a Christian woman -- one of three females in the new government.

Some analysts say a new government does not mean the end of the power struggle between the Sadr and Coordination Framework camp that spilled into deadly clashes in August.

Ihsan al-Shammari, a political scientist at the University of Baghdad, said in order to avoid fresh unrest the new cabinet and the Coordination Framework should deliver reforms as demanded by Sadr.

Sudani has pledged to hold early elections "within a year" as requested by Sadr, a grey-bearded preacher who once led a militia against American and Iraqi government forces.

Endemic corruption

The new prime minister and his government were confirmed at a time when Iraq is facing numerous challenges and a battered economy.

State institutions have been weakened by decades of war, and corruption is endemic.

Official figures published last year estimated that well over $400 billion had gone missing from state coffers in the near two decades since dictator Saddam Hussein was toppled in 2003.

One of Sudani's first task would be to adopt a budget for 2022 -- a move key to unblock huge revenues from oil exports earned this year that are locked up in the central bank's coffers.

The colossal $87 billion in foreign exchange reserves are needed to put in motion much-needed reforms and kickstart infrastructure projects.

Despite its immense oil and gas reserves, about one-third of Iraq's 41 million population now lives in poverty, while some 35 per cent of young people are unemployed, according to the UN.

On Thursday, the UN mission in Iraq said it "welcomes confirmation of Iraqi government, reaffirms readiness to support".

WATCH WION LIVE HERE

Samsung appoints heir and ex-convict Jay Y Lee executive chairman as losses mount

Following the discovery of a North Korean defector's decomposing remains last Wednesday in Seoul, South Korean officials opened an inquiry.

The defection occurred in 2002, and the police and South Korea's Unification Ministry identified the defector as a lady in her 40s.

According to Seoul police, the woman had often skipped rent payments and was unable to be reached. As a result, the public housing corporation Seoul Housing & Communities Corporation sent personnel to check on her flat, where they discovered her dead.

According to investigators, her body had almost skeleton-like decomposition. Police believe she has been deceased for roughly a year based on the cold clothing she was wearing, but an autopsy will provide more precise information.

Although the Unification Ministry did not give her name, it claimed that she had previously been hailed by officials as an example of a successful relocation.

According to the ministry, the woman served as a counsellor at the Korea Hana Foundation from 2011 to 2017, assisting other defectors with their relocation to the South.

The woman reportedly requested police not extend their protection services in 2019, according to Seoul police. South Korean officials regularly monitor North Korean defectors and conduct welfare checks while assisting with their resettlement.

The woman was not on the Unification Ministry's own monitoring list, the ministry added.

The National Forensic Service had received a request for an investigation, according to the police.

The case, according to a representative of the Unification Ministry, is "very sad." The official added that the ministry will review the crisis management procedure for North Korean defectors and focus on areas that needed improvement.
