<p class="MsoNormal">The section mentioned by Fawad Chaudhary states that 'the federal government may as and when it considers necessary, issue directive to the Authority (Pemra) on matters of policy, and such directives shall be binding on the Authority, and if a question arises whether any matter is a matter of policy or not, the decision of the federal government shall be final', according to local media reports.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Pakistan’s new map was revealed last year&nbsp;and Prime Minister Imran Khan has ordered that this new map will be treated as the 'official map'&nbsp;for all federal, government and teaching purposes. Khan had also stated that the map has been approved by the federal cabinet and the leaders of the country.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p>The new map claims that the entire territory of India's Jammu and Kashmir and Gujarat's Junagadh is a part of Pakistan, and also labels Jammu and Kashmir as 'Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir'. </o:p></p>

Now, media body forces channels to air map showing Junagadh in India's Gujarat as part of Pakistan

<p class="MsoNormal">Viewers of a CBS-affiliated news channel, KREM, were subjected to obscene pornographic clip during a weather forecast being aired in Washington.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The famous meteorologist Michelle Boss&nbsp;was on-air reporting the weather update in the 6pm programme. There were two screens on her one background. While one showed the weather report, the other one accidentally played a 13-seconds-long pornographic clip.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Boss and her co-anchor, Cody Proctor, were unaware of what was happening on the screens behind their backs. The two reporters continued giving weather updates. The screen was quickly then switched to weather footage.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">As the network realised their mistake, they issued a public apology in their 11pm programme. "Those of us here at KREM 2 want to apologise for something that happened in our 6 pm newscast tonight," said the station. "An inappropriate video aired in the first part of the show. We are diligently working to make sure something like this doesn't happen again."<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">After the broadcast, it was revealed that the channel has broken broadcast rules. Parents Television and Media Council&nbsp;(PTC) wrote a letter calling for action to the channel.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">“It is illegal to air indecent material between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. over the publicly-owned airwaves. As a licensee of the broadcast spectrum, a violation of the congressionally-mandated and FCC-enforced indecency law can warrant financial sanctions up to $325,000 per incident. The FCC has levied fines for similar such violations as the one KREM appears to have committed,” the letter by PTC President Tim Winter read.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">He also doubted that the clip was played by mistake and questioned why is it always obscene content that is played ‘by mistake’.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">“Let there be no suggestion that the airing of the pornographic content might have been an “accident” or a “mistake.” Someone with the wherewithal to pass that content through the control room did so intentionally. Washington channel accidentally plays pornographic clip during weather forecast

<p>Parle India, makers of some popular consumer goods including the Parle G biscuits, has announced that they will not advertise their products on Indian news channels that promote aggressive and toxic content.</p>

<p>While speaking to MInt, senior category head of Parle Krishnarao Buddha said that the company will not advertise on news channels which show toxic content or are involved in the alleged TRP scam.<br />

Budhha also revealed that the company is in talks with brands so that they can collectively take a stand and put a restraint on advertising on such channels to send out a clear message.</p>

<p>The decision comes amid reports of certain news channels being accused of projecting 'fake' or 'inflated' TRPS. Last week the Mumbai police reportedly busted a 'fake TRP racket' where the households were reportedly asked to keep a particular news channel switched on the entire day. Two Marathi channels and one national news channel were named in the report submitted by Mumbai Police.</p>

<p>This is not the first time that a known brand has taken a stand against news channels. A few days ago, industrialist Rajiv Bajaj in an interview to channels stated that Bajaj Auto has blacklisted three channels for advertisement purpose.</p>

<p>The move made by Parle was lauded by many on Twitter as #ParleG trended on the social media platform on Monday with many hailing it as a socially responsible brand.</p>

<p>The News Broadcasters Association (NBA) has suggested to the Supreme Court that its "code of ethics" should be made part of statutory rules on cable TV by the central government to ensure it becomes binding on member and non-member news channels alike.</p>

<p>Taking note of the NBA's alleged inadequacy in regulating "hurtful" and "communal" contents in television programmes of news channels, the top court on September 18 had sought suggestions from it and the Centre to strengthen the association's self-regulatory powers.</p>

<p>A bench headed by Justice D Y Chandrachud has been hearing a case of a lawyer seeking granting of pre-telecast ban on a programme called 'UPSC Jehad' of Sudarshan TV and it will hear the case on Monday again.</p>

<p>At present, the court has stayed the telecast of episodes which deal with alleged infiltration of Muslims in bureaucracy.</p>

<p>Annie Joseph, secretary general of the NBA, has filed the affidavit in pursuance of the court's direction asking it to give suggestions as to how the self-regulatory mechanism of the NBA could be strengthened and made more effective in regard to the electronic media.</p>

<p>The NBA said its code of ethics should be given a statutory recognition by making it a part of the Programme Code under the Cable TV Rules so that these codes become binding on all news channels.</p>

<p>The move will give official recognition and power to the regulatory body.</p>

<p>"This court may grant recognition to NBSA (News Broadcasting Standard Association) the 'independent self-regulatory mechanism' so that complaints against all news broadcasters, whether members of NBA or not, may be entertained by the NBSA and the orders passed by the NBSA would be binding and enforceable on all news broadcasters," Joseph said in her affidavit.</p>

<p>"Recognition to the NBSA would also strengthen the News Broadcasting Standard Regulation and the penalties mentioned therein could be made more stringent," the affidavit stated.</p>

<p>The self-regulatory body said that amenability to the NBSA mechanism should be made a term of the "uplinking/downlinking permission for news channels, and the orders made, if any, against any news broadcaster may be considered by the (information and broadcasting) ministry at the time of grant and renewal of such permissions".</p>

<p>The NBSA is currently headed by retired Supreme Court judge A K Sikri.</p>

<p>Earlier, the bench had said it was against the practice of courts granting pre-telecast injunctions on shows and that such orders are a "nuclear missile" and hence, the self-regulatory mechanism needed to be strengthened.</p>

<p>It had also questioned Sudarshan TV over its 'Bindas Bol' programme, the promo of which had claimed that the channel would show the "big expose on conspiracy to infiltrate Muslims in government service".</p>

<p>The bench had asked whether media can be allowed to target whole set of communities.</p>

<p>Simultaneously, it had taken note of alleged inadequacy of self-regulatory mechanism of the NBA and had observed: "The NBA says that Sudarshan TV is not its member so it cannot do anything."</p>

<p>NBA says they have a committee headed by a retired Supreme Court judge. They can impose a maximum fine of Rs one lakh and this shows how toothless they are. But, the NBA is only for members, so Sudarshan News not being a member is not governed by the NBA," the bench had observed.</p>

"This court may grant recognition to NBSA (News Broadcasting Standard Association) the 'independent self-regulatory mechanism' so that complaints against all news broadcasters, whether members of NBA or not, may be entertained by the NBSA and the orders passed by the NBSA would be binding and enforceable on all news broadcasters," Joseph said in her affidavit. "Recognition to the NBSA would also strengthen the News Broadcasting Standard Regulation and the penalties mentioned therein could be made more stringent," the affidavit stated. The self-regulatory body said that amenability to the NBSA mechanism should be made a term of the "uplinking/downlinking permission for news channels, and the orders made, if any, against any news broadcaster may be considered by the (information and broadcasting) ministry at the time of grant and renewal of such permissions". The NBSA is currently headed by retired Supreme Court judge A K Sikri. Earlier, the bench had said it was against the practice of courts granting pre-telecast injunctions on shows and that such orders are a "nuclear missile" and hence, the self-regulatory mechanism needed to be strengthened. It had also questioned Sudarshan TV over its 'Bindas Bol' programme, the promo of which had claimed that the channel would show the "big expose on conspiracy to infiltrate Muslims in government service". The bench had asked whether media can be allowed to target whole set of communities. Simultaneously, it had taken note of alleged inadequacy of self-regulatory mechanism of the NBA and had observed: "The NBA says that Sudarshan TV is not its member so it cannot do anything." NBA says they have a committee headed by a retired Supreme Court judge. They can impose a maximum fine of Rs one lakh and this shows how toothless they are. But, the NBA is only for members, so Sudarshan News not being a member is not governed by the NBA," the bench had observed.
