The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to conduct a mega auction ahead of the 2022 season to ensure the two new teams get a fair chance at building their respective squads from scratch. IPL will become a ten-team tournament from next year with the addition of Ahmedabad and Lucknow franchises.

With the two new teams in the fray, a lot of players will be in demand at the mega auction. The franchises have been asked to confirm their retention list by the BCCI, with the existing eight teams allowed to retain a maximum of four players. Each team can retain a maximum of only three Indian players and not more than two overseas players.&nbsp;

Chennai Super Kings will be one of the teams to watch out for as far as retentions are concerned as all eyes will be on Dhoni. The CSK skipper led the franchise to their fourth title in IPL 2021 and has not announced his retirement from IPL yet.

While CSK have already asserted they would want to retain Dhoni, there remain doubts over his future considering he is in the final lap of his career and it will cost a fortune for the franchise to retain him. Srinivasan said Dhoni doesn't want CSK to spend a lot of money on retaining him and explained why he said&nbsp;

"MS is a very fair person. He wanted the retention policy to come out as he didn’t want CSK to lose money trying to retain him. That is the reason why he gave different replies to people. However, he made a very regnant statement. On being asked about the legacy he left behind, he said I am not gone. So, that says it all," Srinivasan told&nbsp;Editorji.

As per the retentions rules, any team which wants to retain players will have to spend a huge amount from their purse of INR 900 million (Rs 90 crore). If a team decides to retain 4 players, it will have to spend INR 420 million (Rs 42 crore) in total if they want to retain four players, INR 330 million (Rs 33 crore) of they want to retain three players and INR 240 million (Rs 24 crore) of they want to retain two players.

Former president of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) – N Srinivasan – has revealed how he chipped in to save MS Dhoni from getting removed as the captain of Indian team in 2011/12. Srinivasan’s latest revelations come in after <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/ms-dhoni-announces-retirement-from-international-cricket-320826">Dhoni announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket on August 15, 2020</a> after enjoying a trophy-laded career spanning over 16 years.&nbsp;

While Dhoni has spectacularly led India to World Cup win in 2011, Team India’s performance in Test cricket left the selectors unimpressed and they decided to sack Dhoni as captain after whitewashes in Test series in England and Australia.&nbsp;

However, Srinivasan chipped in and returned from his holiday to save the swashbuckling glovesman as the skipper of Indian team. Srinivasan was left stunned to hear that the selectors were thinking of removing him as ODI captain despite India lifting the World Cup in April 2011.

“This was 2011. India had won the World Cup. And (then) in Australia, we didn’t do well in the Tests. So, one of the selectors wanted to remove him (Dhoni) as the ODI captain. The point is, how do you remove him as the ODI captain? He had won the World Cup (in April 2011)," Srinivasan told Indian Express.

"They (selectors) had not even thought of who would be his replacement. There was a discussion and then (before the formal meeting) I said there was no way in which he would not be a player (captain).

"In fact, it was a holiday. I was playing golf. I came back. Sanjay Jagdale was the (BCCI) secretary at that time and he said, 'Sir, they (selectors]) are refusing to choose the captain. They will take him [Dhoni] in the team [as a player].' I came and said that MS Dhoni would be the captain. I exercised all my authority as the (BCCI) president," he added.

Reflecting back at the decision, Srinivasan said he was glad he stood his ground. As per old constitution of the BCCI, team selectors needed a final approval from the board president. However, after Lodha reforms, the chief selector holds the right to give the final nod in selection matters.

“See, there was apparently some prejudice somewhere, which reflected. He (Dhoni) has won the World Cup for you. After 1983, India won it again and you say, ‘I don’t want him to be the ODI captain’! Left to them (selectors), they might have (dropped him as a player). I don’t know. I think that was the most unfair (move) and I am glad that I stood my ground,” Srinivasan said.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Dhoni will continue to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Chennai Super Kings and will be seen in action from September 19.

Under Manohar’s tenure, the BCCI and ICC have been involved in a tussle over several financial issues. Srinivasan claimed that Manohar is running away because he had no chance to continue at the charge of the ICC.

“Ever since the new leadership has come into BCCI, Shashank knew he could not afford to represent India and use that as a vehicle for his convenience. He knew he had no chance (to continue) and therefore he has run away”.

Supreme Court directed BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary &amp;&nbsp;CEO Rahul Johri to attend the ICC meeting.

A bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra said since Srinivasan has been held guilty by the Supreme Court&nbsp;for conflict of interest, he cannot be allowed to represent the BCCI in the ICC meeting.

&quot;It is directed that Amitabh Chaudhary shall represent the BCCI in the ICC meeting and Rahul Johri shall accompany him and he (Johri) will also attend the meetings of the CEOs&#39;,&quot; the bench declared.

On April 10, the apex court had said that a person, who is &quot;ineligible&quot; to become an office bearer in the BCCI and state cricket associations, cannot be nominated to take part in the ICC meetings.
