On Sunday, the police also arrested another woman, thought to be involved in an affair with the ex-husband's father. She allegedly assisted the other suspects and provided the place to execute the crime. The gruesome murder came to light after officers discovered Choi's body following a missing persons report. Choi was presumably unconscious when she was brought to the rural village home in Tai Po - an area close to the border with mainland China. “There’s a hole on the right side rear on the skull, so the pathologist believes that that should be the fatal attack on the victim,” said Superintendent Alan Chung. He added that Choi had been embroiled in financial disputes with his ex-husband and family. The dispute involved ten of millions of Hong Kong dollars as the ex-family was unhappy with how the model handled her finances. Choi had a legion of followers on her social media accounts. The 28-year-old had more than 100,000 followers on Instagram alone and she routinely shared her glamourous life on the platform. She had recently attended a Dior show at Paris Fashion Week. According to the prosecution, the two men lured Liga and took her to a spot where they made her consume ganja and then sexually assaulted her. When she tried to confront them, they strangled her to death.&nbsp; 
Liga had come to Kerala with her husband, Andrew, and younger sister Ilze Skromane, to seek Ayurvedic treatment for depression and skin disease.

The case came to light when Ilze took it upon herself to track her missing sister. She first registered a missing complaint with the local police and then went to several locations to trace her sister and even declared a reward for any information about Liga.

On Tuesday, the court resumed its proceedings to deliver judgement in the case, but the convicted duo also asked the court to order a polygraph test. They also claimed that they have seen an unidentified Yoga instructor fleeing the crime scene. Furthermore, they stated that a strand of hair discovered in the area remained unidentified. The court, however, refused to hear their claims.

The crime was earlier dismissed as a suicide case, but the victim's sister demanded a comprehensive probe into the case. She made an appeal before the Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan after which Kerala Police constituted a special investigation team for this case.

On Sunday, former Brazilian congresswoman and gospel singer, Flordelis dos Santos de Souza, was sentenced to 50 years and 28 days in prison after she was found guilty&nbsp;of "orchestrating" the murder of her husband, pastor Anderson do Carmo who&nbsp;was shot in 2019 at their home in Rio de Janeiro.&nbsp;

The 61-year-old and her husband were seen as a power couple among&nbsp;the country’s Evangelical Christian movement and were also famous for her 55 children, most of whom are adopted from the favelas or slums in Rio de Janeiro. The sentence was handed in a Rio court after she and several of their children were also accused of being complicit in the pastor's murder.&nbsp;

Do Carmo, in 2019, was shot at least 30 times in the garage of their house in Rio after which dos Santos claimed that armed robbers on motorcycles had chased them and attacked her husband. In 2020, prosecutors charged Dos Santos with “orchestrating the homicide, enlisting to take part in the crime and attempting to disguise it as an armed robbery.” They also suspected that this move was made in order to gain control over the couple’s finances which were controlled by Do Carmo.&nbsp;

She had also tried to poison her late husband with cyanide at least six times before arranging his killing, said a report by the Guardian. Simone dos Santos Rodrigues, the former congresswoman’s biological daughter was&nbsp;sentenced to 31 years in prison and one of her biological sons was&nbsp;found guilty of being a gunman who shot the pastor,&nbsp;has been sentenced to&nbsp;33 years in prison. Furthermore, four of her adopted children and a granddaughter were also sentenced&nbsp;earlier this year during the trial.&nbsp;

Last week Flordelis’s lawyers argued that she had no knowledge of her husband’s murder being carried out and said that they did so to protect her from alleged sexual and physical abuse perpetrated by her husband. However, the judge swiftly rejected these claims and said that she was the one who ordered the crime and made it look like a robbery gone wrong.&nbsp;

The court also said she ordered the killing “because the victim kept a strict control of the family finances and administered conflicts rigidly, refusing to give preferential treatment to the ex-lawmaker’s closest (friends) in detriment to other members of the family.” The sentence marked the end of one of the most sensational crimes in Brazil’s recent history.&nbsp;

Two American students have been charged with a life sentence for the murder of a police officer while they were on a summer holiday in Rome.

Mario Cerciello Rega, a police officer, was stabbed during a late-night encounter in July 2019 while he was out with his friend Gabriel Natale-Hjorth.

Finnegan Lee Elder, a 21-year-old, had admitted to stabbing Cerciello 11 times with a seven-inch camping knife. The police officer was stabbed to death on a dark street near the hotel the Americans were staying in.

The former NYPD officer has been charged with a murder-for-hire plot. She will be appearing in court on February 12, however, it is not yet clear what the charges of the plea deal will cover. As per local reports, however, she will plead guilty to a single count of obstruction of justice which carries a penalty of 46 to 67 months behind bars under the sentencing guidelines.

She had also planned to get her lover's teenager daughter killed as she thought he was spending too much money and resources on his daughter, reports claim.

The federal investigators had to devise a fake plan to convince the NYPD officer that her husband had been killed by the hired hitman. However, later an officer from the Suffolk County Police Department knocked on her door with questions regarding the alleged death, following which she hurriedly asked her boyfriend to delete all kinds of evidence that may lead to the officers believing that she had murdered her husband.

Later, the FBI took her in their custody that very same day and she has been in the jail since then. Her sentencing will now take place, probably, in a video hearing on February 12.
