Amid all this, a complaint has been registered at the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) regarding the non-payment of dues.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Recently, Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) president BN Tiwari&nbsp;shared that the production house owes Rs 33.13 lakh to director Tinu Desai, who helmed Akshay Kumar’s <em>Mission Raniganj</em>, as reported by the news agency PTI</p>

<p>Besides this, the production house also owes Rs 31.78 lakh to over 250 crew members who had worked in <em>Mission Raniganj,</em> Tiger Shroff's <em>Ganpath</em> (2023), and <em>Bade Miyan Chote Miyan</em> (2024) starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff. All three films were big flops at the box office.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In March 2023, Tinu Desai complained&nbsp;to the Indian Film &amp; Television Director’s Association (IFTDA). As per the information available, the director was supposed to receive Rs 4,03,50,000, but he has only received Rs 3,70,36,092 so far.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The director started working on the survival drama <em>Mission Raniganj</em> in February 2022 until October 6, 2023, the release date of the film.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“A written complaint was filed by the director of Mission Raniganj regarding non-payment of his dues of ₹33.13 lakh from Vashu Bhagnani last year in March. We’ve been following up with Pooja Entertainment but still they haven’t made the payment. They have said by July end they will clear the dues,” the FWICE president said.</p>

<p>FWICE President&nbsp;also revealed that they&nbsp;kept delaying the payments despite writing several letters to Pooja Entertainment. The president further revealed that in February this year, the production house sought “time to pay, citing Jackky Bhagnani’s wedding via an email dated February 20, 2024, to IFTDA”. However, no reply and payment was made later.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In March, FWICE wrote another letter to the production house. Replying to which, “they again sought time to make the payment saying they would do so after the release of their film, <em>Bade Miyan Chote Miyan</em>”.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The production has promised to clear the dues by the end of July. If they fail to do so this time, then FWICE workers will stop working on their projects. &nbsp;"This is unfair what they are doing, they are leading a luxurious life, and when it comes to paying the dues they are making excuses. In their latest email, they have said they will clear the dues by July end but if they don’t do so then our workers will not work on any of their films,” the FWICE president added.</p>

The film, based on the story of unsung hero Jaswant Singh Gill, has been receiving an extraordinary word of mouth publicity from audiences who were taken on a thrilling and emotional journey into the life of the Indian engineer's passionate effort to rescue 65 coal mine workers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As thrilling and exciting as the world of <em>Mission Raniganj</em> looks, the making and creation of this world look as thrilling as the film. Its premise indeed makes it a big-screen spectacle.</p>

<p>In a BTS video of the film, Akshay Kumar was seen sharing his experience.</p>

<p>He said, "It was a great honour to play Gill Sahab, who was a great inspiration. This one was a very difficult film to make. Although everything was in control for me. But, for the miners at that time, there was gas, and there was water, and just imagine how they would have managed to perform in such adverse conditions. Kumar's <em>Mission Raniganj</em> has been all over the headlines for months now, and Bhumi's sex-comedy film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. When compared to Akshay's last release, <em>OMG 2, </em>which raked&nbsp;Rs 10 crore (Rs 100 million)&nbsp;on its opening day, the numbers of the rescue drama are way below the bar. <em>Mission Raniganj</em> is Akshay's second-lowest opening after the actor's<em> Selfiee</em>, released earlier this year.<br />

Box office report: Mission Raniganj and Thank You For Coming get poor opening

<p>Akshay Kumar's new film <em>Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue </em>opened in theatre across India. The film, helmed by Tinu Suresh Desai, has Akshay Kumar playing a mining engineer who rescued 65 miners from a coal field in Raniganj, West Bengal in 1989. The film is based on an actual incident and Kumar plays Jaswant Singh Gill, who led the rescue mission when a coal mine in Raniganj was flooded leaving many miners trapped inside for two days.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
<strong>Who was Jaswant Singh Gill?</strong><br />
<br />
Born in Amritsar in 1940, Jaswant Singh Gill studied at Khalsa School and later took admission in BSc (non-medical) at Khalsa College (Amritsar). He studied BSc (Honours) at the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. Gill eventually joined Coal India Limited in 1973 from where he retired in 1998 as Engineer-in-chief.<br />
<br />
Gill's rescue mission at Mahabir Colliery, Raniganj, West Bengal in 1989 remains one of the high points of his career. He saved the lives of 65 miners who were trapped in a flooded coal mine. He also got the moniker of Capsule Gill after the incident.<br />
<br />
<strong>What happened at Mahabir Colliery in November 1989?</strong><br />
<br />
At the time of the accident, 232 miners were working the night shift on November 13, 1989. They were tasked to excavate coal through explosions inside the 320-foot-deep mine.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
At around 4 a.m., there was a sudden influx of water, and the mine got flooded. The 161 miners who were near the two lifts in the pit were rescued immediately, but 71 of them were far off and couldn’t reach the lift due to the water.</p>

<p>Fortunately, there was a telephone connection between the borehole and the surface, through which a message was sent that 65 miners had taken shelter at a rise part of the pit, but six of them had gone missing.</p>

<p><strong>Jaswant Singh Gill’s role in the rescue operation</strong><br />
<br />
Senior engineer Jasawant Gill led one of the teams formed for rescue operations. Gill came up with the idea of extracting the stranded miners through a capsule injected inside a dead hole.&nbsp;</p>

The steel capsule was constructed in 72 hours and after a few trial runs up and down the borehole, rescue of men began on November 16 at 2.30 am. Gill insisted on going into the capsule himself to bring out the trapped men.&nbsp;<br />
<br />
There was initial opposition from senior officers of Coal India over Gill going down the pit but he did enter the capsule and brought out all of the 65 men one by one by 8:30 am. Initially, it took 15 minutes for one round trip of the capsule. A 12-tonne crane was put into service later on for lowering and raising the capsule and this reduced the cycle time to just 3 minutes.</p>

To celebrate Gill’s act of bravery, Coal India Ltd announced November 16 as ‘Rescue Day’.</p>

<p>Gill was also honoured with the highest civilian bravery award, 'Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak' by President Ramaswamy Venkataraman in 1991.<br />

Limca Book of Records has certified this operation as a national record in the history of coal mining.</p>

The film, helmed by Tinu Suresh Desai, has Akshay Kumar playing a mining engineer who rescued 65 miners from a coal field in Raniganj, West Bengal in 1989. The film is based on an actual incident and Kumar plays Jaswant Singh Gill, who led the rescue mission when a coal mine in Raniganj was flooded leaving many miners trapped inside for two days. Who was Jaswant Singh Gill? Born in Amritsar in 1940, Jaswant Singh Gill studied at Khalsa School and later took admission in BSc (non-medical) at Khalsa College (Amritsar). He studied BSc (Honours) at the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. Gill eventually joined Coal India Limited in 1973 from where he retired in 1998 as Engineer-in-chief. Gill's rescue mission at Mahabir Colliery, Raniganj, West Bengal in 1989 remains one of the high points of his career. He saved the lives of 65 miners who were trapped in a flooded coal mine. He also got the moniker of Capsule Gill after the incident. What happened at Mahabir Colliery in November 1989? At the time of the accident, 232 miners were working the night shift on November 13, 1989. They were tasked to excavate coal through explosions inside the 320-foot-deep mine. At around 4 a.m., there was a sudden influx of water, and the mine got flooded. The 161 miners who were near the two lifts in the pit were rescued immediately, but 71 of them were far off and couldn’t reach the lift due to the water. Fortunately, there was a telephone connection between the borehole and the surface, through which a message was sent that 65 miners had taken shelter at a rise part of the pit, but six of them had gone missing. Jaswant Singh Gill’s role in the rescue operation Senior engineer Jasawant Gill led one of the teams formed for rescue operations. Gill came up with the idea of extracting the stranded miners through a capsule injected inside a dead hole. Gill insisted on going into the capsule himself to bring out the trapped men. There was initial opposition from senior officers of Coal India over Gill going down the pit but he did enter the capsule and brought out all of the 65 men one by one by 8:30 am. Initially, it took 15 minutes for one round trip of the capsule. A 12-tonne crane was put into service later on for lowering and raising the capsule and this reduced the cycle time to just 3 minutes. To celebrate Gill’s act of bravery, Coal India Ltd announced November 16 as ‘Rescue Day’. Gill was also honoured with the highest civilian bravery award, 'Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak' by President Ramaswamy Venkataraman in 1991.
