Meek Mill witnessed the impact of his relentless advocacy with the Reform Alliance as Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro signed SB838, a significant probation reform bill that restricts probation length and prevents incarceration for minor violations.

During a press conference, Mill emotionally recounted his personal struggles under probation, highlighting how even routine activities, like taking his son to school, were deemed technical violations, leading to potential incarceration.

Reflecting on his experience, Mill shared his emotional journey, stating, "I thought that it was either I go to jail and I take my son to school and I ended up taking my son to school so I want to thank you guys here today. I don’t want to get emotional because it’s a lot." While saying this, the rapper broke into tears.

Acknowledging the challenges faced by individuals labelled as felons, Mill expressed pride in his journey of self-redemption and the battles against a system that stigmatised him. "We all grew up in the streets and we tried to be better, but they labelled us as felons and sent us back to jail," he shared.

Mill's journey to this pivotal moment has been fraught with legal battles and setbacks. From serving time in prison for drug and weapon possession charges to facing repercussions for probation violations, his struggles shed light on the flaws within the justice system.

The rap star's personal experiences fueled his drive to initiate change. He founded the Reform Alliance, a non-profit organisation dedicated to transforming probation and parole systems, aiming to prevent former inmates from re-entering prison due to technicalities and harsh probation laws.

Drake gives shout-out to Meek Mill during his concert after eight-year feud

American rapper and fashion mogul Ye, who was formerly known as Kanye West, went viral on social media, once again, for making fun of rapper Meek Mill, who was among the many celebrities slamming him for wearing the controversial 'White Lives Matter' tee during Paris Fashion Week in October.

As a short clip of Ye's Saturday interview on a Clubhouse group started doing rounds on social media, Meek's fans came out in his defence before the rapper himself penned a cryptic note.

"Never lost my mind for fame or money … I still have my family …my people respect me … I’m freeing people from prison… I’m doing community service all month with children up close and personal." wrote Meek. "I’m chilling with my son and his friends today.. y’all on clubhouse at 50 lol." Take a look!

For those uninitiated, Ye started laughing uncontrollably at the idea of Meek giving him advice while speaking about his many controversies on Wack 100 on Clubhouse. He aimed his vitriol at the 35-year-old and stated that Meek is not in any position to give him any advice.

"And I put White Lives Matter on a t-shirt. And they said, you know what let's go get celebrities, let's go get Puff Daddy, let's get Dave Chappelle, let's get Meek Mills. What makes somebody think Meek Mills can say something to me?" Ye said before erupting into his out-of-control laughter.

"This is the funniest thing. Yo man, I'm about to start crying laughing, somebody thought Meek Mills? Sorry. I'm literally in tears. Somebody say Meek Mills. That part was really funny to me," Ye added.

On several occasions, Meek has openly criticised Kanye for his anti-Semitic remarks and erratic behaviour. In November, the Philadelphia rhymer dropped a freestyle over DJ Khaled's 'God Did' where he said that Ye had sold his soul.

"Make a hundred million dollars and still go get my friends after," Meek raps on the song. "And that don't go for everybody, just the only ones that bend backwards for me/I will never sell my soul for money, like I’m Kanye."

After Kanye West mocks Meek Mill on Clubhouse, latter hits back in cryptic post

Kanye West sent out a barrage of tweets on Tuesday and revealed that he’s been trying to divorce his wife Kim Kardashian for several years now.

“I been trying to get divorced since Kim met with Meek at Warldolf(sic)” wrote West on Twitter. The tweet was later deleted. West was referring to the 2018 prison reform summit at a luxury hotel that was attended by Kardashian and rapper Meek Mill.

West added, "Meek is my man and was respectful. That’s my dog. Kim was out of line.”

Hours later Mill took to twitter to refute West’s claim. The rapper wrote, “"S--t is cappp cmon (sic) ....." on Twitter. ‘Cap’ is a slang term for ‘lie.’

Kardashian is yet to react to West’s allegation. However, late on Wednesday, she did take to Instagram stories to comment on mental illness and her husband’s bipolar disorder.

“As many of you know, Kanye has bi-polar disorder. Anyone who has this or has a loved one in their life who does, knows how incredibly complicated and painful it is to understand," Kardashian wrote.

She stated that so far she had avoided speaking on the matter to respect her husband’s privacy and protect her children.

Asking media to show empathy, she stated, “He is a brilliant but complicated person who on top of the pressure of being an artist and a black man, who experienced the painful loss of his mother, and has to deal with the pressure and isolation that is heightened by his bi-polar disorder,” she wrote. “Those who are close with Kanye know his heart and understand his words some times do not align with his intentions.” Read the full statement here.

Meek Mill addresses Kanye West's tweets about meeting with Kim Kardashian

Rappers Jay Z and Meek Mill have collaborated on a new criminal justice reform organization.

The pair joined Kraft Group CEO & New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Michael Rubin and other entrepreneurs for the announcement of Reform Alliance in New York on Wednesday (January 23). The founding partners have committed $50 million (USD) collectively to the organization.

The initial goals of the organization are to "highlight individual cases that embody the most egregious problems in the criminal justice system and discuss this unprecedented partnership that spans several industries."

Rubin said the initial focus is going to be on the four and a half million people that are on probation and parole.

"This is two-thirds of the population in the criminal justice system and yet it's been the area that's been the least focused on. And it's also what keeps sending people back to prison and jail," he said. Rubin hopes to free 1 million people from the system in the next five years.

Meek Mill, whose legal name is Robert Williams, was sentenced in November 2018 to two-four years in state prison for probation violations stemming from his 2008 conviction.

His case, which became a cause for recording artists, athletes and celebrities, was seen by criminal justice reform advocates as emblematic of a legal system they say treats minorities unjustly and hands out too harsh of punishments.

Jay-Z said, "We want to be very clear, you know if someone commits a crime they should go to jail. But these things are just disproportionate and the whole world knows that, right. And a lot of these issues are in place now because they were run on - they're like political issues. People run on this and got elected to office, and there's no disrespect, I don't want anyone to feel defensive about what I'm saying. I'm just saying honest truth. And the people that are here today and the politicians that are here today know it's the truth, that's why they're here. And it's a humane issue."

The founders say with determination, capital funding and a platform they plan to make a big impact.

Journalist Van Jones has been named CEO of the organization.
