The scouting for the final 15 for the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA and the Caribbean has already begun, and former India chief selector MSK Prasad has backed the ‘find of IPL 2024’ Mayank Yadav to break into the side for the marquee tournament. Prasad feels that with Yadav’s pace and Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj’s presence in the XI, India can be a dangerous team to take on.

Since his IPL debut for Lucknow Super Giants against Punjab Kings this season, Yadav has made headlines, not just for his searing pace, which reads over 156 kmph on the meter, but also for bowling wicket-taking line and length up front. His bouncers are as lethal as his good-length deliveries, with even the best of batters finding it tough to tackle him.

His debut outing against PBKS saw him returning with three wickets, while against RCB in his second game, he picked as many wickets for just 14 runs, winning Player of the Match awards in back-to-back games.

Impressed with the youngster’s temperament and ability to deliver under pressure and against some of the top names, MSK feels if the selectors back the youngster to be a surprise pick for the 20-team tournament, the Indian Team could reap its rewards.

Prasad continues saying that had it been any other format, he would have overlooked Mayank for now, but with the shortest format, he would like to see him break into the team.

“Had it been some other format, probably, I would have thought differently. I would have taken a call only after watching him for a couple of bilateral series. But IPL is in itself a mega platform where you can showcase your talent because every game involves pressure."

“Mayank is someone who has shown he can absorb pressure and bowl consistently at a good line, and he has already troubled the best of the lot with his pace,” Prasad told RevSportz.

“If they (batters) are not able to bring the bat down against the pace he has been generating, I think he will be handy. And looking at the Indian bowling, especially with (Mohammed) Shami now being ruled out, the selectors must be looking for a third seamer after (Jasprit) Bumrah and (Mohammed) Siraj.”

“Someone with that kind of pace and accuracy deserves a place in the T20 World Cup squad,” the former chief selector added.

Meanwhile, the 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup is expected to be announced by the end of this month, with the selectors keeping an eye on all players, including the emerging stars.

IPL 2024, LSG vs GT Match Preview: Mayank takes spotlight as Lucknow host Gujarat

Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson has opined that Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) speedster Mayank Yadav shouldn't be pushed to play Test cricket. Watson's comments come after Mayank lit up the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season with is raw pace. The pacer has claimed six wickets in two matches he has played so far and has bowled north of 150 kmph most times.

"I personally think it's a waste if Indian cricket, really trying to push him into four-day cricket and Test cricket, knowing the incredible value that he can provide in T20 and one-day cricket for India," said Watson on JioCinema.

IPL 2024: Shane Watson warns against pushing LSG speedster Mayank Yadav into Test cricket. Here's Why

Punjab Kinds Head Coach Trevor Bayliss believes Lucknow Super Giants speedster Mayank Yadav has a bright future. Yadav has set the tournament alight with his extraordinary displays but Bayliss told WION Sports Editor Digvijay Singh Deo that the 21-year-old still has a long way to go.

Bayliss: Mayank Yadav has a bright future

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Glenn Maxwell has compared Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) speedster Mayank Yadav with former Australia pacer Shaun Tait. Mayank is making headlines in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season for his extreme pace and hustling the opposition batters.

The 21-year-old pace sensation already has six wickets to his name in the two matches he has played. And in the eight overs bowled so far, Mayank has given away just 41 runs. Most of Mayank's deliveries are north of 150 kmph and one such ball claimed Maxwell's wicket during LSG vs RCB on April 2.

Speaking on ESPN's Around the Wicket podcast, Maxwell heaped huge praise on Mayank and said: "He has some real extra speed that you don't really see a lot of around world cricket at the moment.
"It's such a beautiful smooth action," Maxwell added. "He [Mayank] sort of glided through the crease really nicely. I think pace-wise, the only one that I can sort of really resemble it to is a little bit like Shaun Tait when he was in his heyday.

"I think when he was at the peak of his powers it was extremely hard to pick up the extra zip it feels like it has off the wicket. I think that's as close as it probably comes to it."

IPL 2024: Glenn Maxwell compares LSG speedster Mayank Yadav to THIS former Australia pacer

The Lucknow Super Giants pacer set the tournament on fire with his extraordinary performances this season. Punjab Kings head coach, Trevor Bayliss talked to WION about him. Watch this video to know more.

Meet 21-year-old Mayank Yadav, speed king of IPL

Mayank Yadav's blistering pace powered Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to an impressive 28-run win against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday (Apr 2). The right-arm pacer from Delhi picked up three wickets which left the RCB batting lineup reeling after it had been struggling big time, coming into the match.

Defending a competitive target of 182, skipper KL Rahul summoned Yadav into the attack in the sixth over with RCB one down. On the very first ball, Yadav hustled opposition captain Faf du Plessis who rushed to take a suicidal single, only to find himself miles short of the crease.

From thereon, Yadav imposed himself completely on the match and picked up the wickets of Cameron Green and Glenn Maxwell in one over. Both Australian batters were dismissed after failing to adjust to the thunderbolts being thrown by Yadav.

While Green was castled clean, Maxwell miscued a pull after failing to get under the 150+ kmph delivery. The pacer returned for his final spell in the 15th over and took the wicket of Rajat Patidar as well.

Such was Yadav's performance that former West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop called him 'child of the wind' while Dale Steyn was left speechless by the raw pace and precision of the youngster.

RCB did attempt to wage a fight at the end with impact sub Mahipal Lomror swinging for the fences but even he could not hold the innings together as RCB folded up on 153.

Devdutt Padikkal's poor form with the bat continued and he fell prey to Mohammed Siraj by top-edging one to wicketkeeper Anuj Rawat.

Desperate to get a move on, QdK attempted to up the ante but Yash Dayal bowled some tight lines and kept a tight lid on the scoring rate. In his following game, versus Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Tuesday evening (April 2) in Bengaluru, the 21-year-old ended with 3 for 14 -- once again being the Player-of-the-Match -- and bowled the fastest ball of the season (156.7 kph), having already clocked the 155kph-mark on debut.

After his performance versus RCB, Mayank revealed the advice he got from his senior Indian pacers Ishant Sharma and Navdeep Saini. The Lucknow speed merchant stated that Ishant asked him never to compromise on speed going ahead.

Speaking on Jio Cinema, he said, "All the bowlers I spoke to in Delhi, Ishant bhai and Saini bhai, they all told me that even if I wanted to try anything new, I should play around my speed. If I want to add a new skill, it should be around my speed and that I don't need to add any skills that could compromise my speed."

IPL 2024: LSG speed sensation Mayank Yadav recalls advice from senior India pacer Ishant Sharma

Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody feels Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)'s new find Mayank Yadav is 'definitely in conversation' to feature in India's squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, which will be held in the West Indies and USA in June. Mayank has been a revelation in the IPL 2024 edition after only two games. He made his debut in Lucknow's home game versus Punjab Kings (PBKS), on March 30, and made an impact with his searing pace and accuracy to finish with 3 for 27, also clocking 155.8kph -- the fastest delivery of the season.

On Tuesday (April 2), LSG faced Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, where Mayank's 3 for 14 dented Virat Kohli-starrer's 182-run chase as they were bundled out for 153 in 19.4 overs. He even bettered his own record of the fastest ball of the season by clocking 156.7 kph.

Mayank won the Player-of-the-Match award on debut and also versus RCB, becoming the first-ever to repeat this feat in his first two IPL games. With a rapid rise since his IPL debut, many are already backing him to feature in India's T20 WC squad. In this regard, former Australian cricketer-turned-commentator Tom Moody feels the 21-year-old is 'definitely in the conversation'.

Talking on ESPNcricinfo's show T20 Time Out Live, Moody said, "He is definitely in the conversation. Whether you take that risk punting on him or not is another conversation because you also need to consider what skillset you need in that reserve fast bowler - is it someone who is a powerplay bowler, or someone who has the ability to bowl at the death, all those subtle skillsets are important when you are talking about a T20 World Cup."

'Long shot but you wouldn't say never'

Mitchell McClenaghan -- Moody's co-panellist -- also shared his take and opined, "If his form continues throughout this tournament, the World Cup starts six days after the IPL, I think it would be crazy not to look at the players who are in form going into that tournament. He may not have the caps behind him, but if he continues this vein of form and can keep his pace up throughout the whole tournament and keep winning games - he has won two games in a row, his first two games - then you are right in the mix. IPL 2024: LSG pacer Mayank Yadav ‘definitely in conversation’ for T20 World Cup, feels former Aussie cricketer

Mayank Yadav has made heads turn in the IPL 2024 edition. In just two games, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer has made a big statement with two three-fers and Player-of-the-Match awards. On Tuesday (April 2), the KL Rahul-led LSG franchise faced Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in match 15, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, where they posted 181 for 5, riding on Quinton de Kock's 81 and Nicholas Pooran's 20-ball 41. However, the star of the match was Mayank who rattled the famed RCB batting line-up with a 3 for 14.

As a result, the home side managed only 153 in 19.4 overs to lose by 28 runs and remain in the ninth spot in the points table. Following his highly impressive IPL debut, a lot is being said and written about Mayank. Many believe he can be unleashed at the T20 World Cup as the 21-year-old can be a surprise package for the Men in Blue (who are the one-time winners).

Steve Smith, former Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain, is also impressed with Mayank. However, the Australian batter explained how runs can be scored off the pacer.

Speaking on Star Sports, Mayank said, "If you look at all those balls, there wasn’t one slower ball there, so you don’t have to worry about that at this stage. He might have it in his armoury, we haven’t seen it yet but you can probably trust to get inside the line or maybe give a bit of room and use the pace and let it come to you."

IPL 2024: WATCH | LSG's Mayank Yadav lights up Cameron Green's stumps vs RCB, breaks multiple records

Picking right up from where he had left, Lucknow Super Giants fast bowler Mayank Yadav silenced the Chinnaswamy crowd with his rapid pace by tearing into the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batting lineup.

Defending a competitive target of 182, skipper KL Rahul summoned Yadav into the attack in the sixth over with RCB one down. On the very first ball, Yadav hustled opposition captain Faf du Plessis who rushed to take a suicidal single, only to find himself miles short of the crease.

In the next over, Yadav continued to bowl thunderbolts above 150 and managed to clean up Australia's Cameron Green who could not make head or tail of the trajectory of the ball.

Cameron's countrymate Glenn Maxwell did not last long either and departed a ball later, attempting to pull a back-of-length delivery into the stands.
