<p>Researchers from three Australian universities working on the southern Great Barrier Reef found that Olive sea snakes, especially males, had repeatedly approached divers, made “fast, jerky movements” and were particularly active in the winter when they breed.</p>

<p>The acts of aggression are likely because of “mistaken identity during sexual interactions”, wrote Tim Lynch, of CSIRO in Hobart, Ross Alford of&nbsp;James Cook University in Townsville and Richard Shine of Macquarie University&nbsp;in Sydney, in the study published by Scientific Reports.</p>

<p>“At first sight, the idea that a snake might mistake a human diver for another snake seems ludicrous, given the massive disparity in size and shape between those two objects,” the Guardian cited the researchers’ observations</p>

<p>“Nonetheless, this offers the most plausible explanation for our observations.”</p>

<p>Though there have been other several examples of marine animals sexually targeting humans, including male dolphins, dugongs, sea lions and sea turtles</p>

<p>But the latest study has raised eyebrows since the olive sea snakes have the capacity to inject deadly venom and instantly decapitate humans.</p>

<p>“A bite is unlikely unless the animal is threatened or injured,” the researchers wrote, advising divers to stay still and allow snakes to investigate them, including by using their tongues to look for chemical cues.</p>

<p>“Attempting to flee is likely to be futile and may even increase the ardour of the pursuit,” the researchers noted. “Attempting to drive the animal away may induce retaliation.”</p>

Venomous attraction: Sea snakes may attack divers during mating season, says study

<p>A former Royal Marine commando, Paul "Pen" Farthing explained to Sky News his journey to Kabul airport so that he could help his wife Kaisa evacuate.</p>

<p>She boarded a C-17 Globemaster military transport aircraft as she made her way to her native Norway. She was flown in what appeared to be an almost empty plane, while thousands waited in the airport chaos to leave the country.</p>

<p>Farthing expressed despair that some planes are not even fully loaded with passengers due to the continuing chaos at the airport.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Aircraft are taking off from the airport every hour "regardless of whether they're full or not...People can't get in, they cannot get into the airport," Sky News quoted him as saying.</p>

<p>"We are going to leave people behind, that is an absolute given...This is an absolute screw-up of an evacuation. We are going to be watching some absolutely horrific scenes."</p>

<p>He expressed anger at the Western governments and despaired at the "terrifying, absolutely terrifying" situation in Kabul.</p>

<p>Thousands of people have been&nbsp;waiting desperately at the Kabul airport to get a chance at moving out from the country.&nbsp;Some have even lost their lives while making an attempt to escape.</p>

<p>People have flooded the&nbsp;Hamid Karzai international airport<strong>&nbsp;</strong>as there have been&nbsp;reports of people clinging to the top of aircraft to get out of Afghanistan.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a desperate attempt,&nbsp;640 Afghans flew in US cargo plane, just to get miles away from their country, which has now been taken over by Taliban.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Taking to his official Twitter handle, Mr Farthing shared an image of the empty plane.</p>

<p>Christopher Harley, a marine biologist at the University of British Columbia, calculated that more than a billion marine animals may have been killed by the unusual heat.</p>

<p>As per Harley, a walk along a Vancouver-area beach highlighted the magnitude of devastation brought on by the heatwave.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He was quoted by the Guardian saying, "The shore doesn’t usually crunch when you walk on it. But there were so many empty mussel shells lying everywhere that you just couldn’t avoid stepping on dead animals while walking around".</p>

<p>He added, "Harley was struck by the smell of rotting mussels, many of which were in effect cooked by the abnormally warm water. Snails, sea stars and clams were decaying in the shallow water. “</p>

<p>It was an overpowering, visceral experience".</p>

<p>Mussels are hardy shellfish, which can tolerate temperatures into the high 30s. Barnacles are sturdier, surviving the mid-40s for at least a few hours.</p>

<p>As per Harley, the mass death of Shellfish would temporarily affect water quality because mussels and clams help filter the sea.</p>

<p>Also, they keep it clear enough that sunlight reaches the eelgrass beds, creating habitats for other species.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Harley also received reports from colleagues of dead sea anemones, rockfish and oysters.</p>

<p>As per experts, the province needs to adapt to the reality that sudden and sustained heatwaves are likely to become more common. They attributed it to climate change.</p>

<p>The Guardian quoted Harley saying, "“The nerdy ecologist part of me is excited to see what will happen in the coming years."</p>

<p>He added, “But most of the rest of me is kind of depressed by it. A lot of species are not going to be able to keep up with the pace of change. Ecosystems are going to change in ways that are really difficult to predict. We don’t know where the tipping points are.”</p>
