The leak affected the work of three companies which were operating at the&nbsp;facility. The air travel at the airport was not disrupted by the incident and the passengers or flights were not affected. Also, the chemical leak did not cause any risk to public safety.

The police said that they traced the gas leak which was happening at a skid tank which was left unattended for nine years.

Local rescue officer Muhammad Nur said that the leaked gas was found to be methyl mercaptan and the source was discovered as an "unused tank" at the&nbsp;facility.

"Work to cover the&nbsp;leak&nbsp;was being done by the emergency crew," Nur said. He added that officials will dismantle and then dispose the tank.&nbsp;

Ghani said Malaysia would offer orangutans as gifts to trading partners, particularly major importers such as the EU, India and China, as part of a diplomatic strategy.

“This will prove to the global community that Malaysia is committed to biodiversity conservation,” said the minister, in a statement, on X.&nbsp;

He added, “Malaysia cannot take a defensive approach to the issue of palm oil. Instead we need to show the countries of the world that Malaysia is a sustainable palm oil producer and is committed to protecting forests and environmental sustainability.”

While there were no further details about the plan or its implementation, the conservation group World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) told Reuters that orangutans – which means “man of the forest” in Malay – are critically endangered, with a population of less than 105,000 on the island of Borneo.&nbsp;

“WWF supports in-situ conservation of wildlife, and would urge that trading partners are brought to Malaysia to support this initiative, as opposed to sending orangutans out of the country,” said the group in a statement to Reuters.

Advocacy group Justice for Wildlife Malaysia, as per the news agency, said that the government should consider alternative diplomatic measures, as its plan for “orangutan diplomacy” would require research about the potential impact and feasibility against other conservation efforts.

"The offer will not be able to cover the overall cost of hosting a large-scale sports event,"&nbsp;Malaysia's sports and youth ministry said in a statement. "Additionally, the economic impact could not be identified in this short timeframe," it further read.

Malaysia hosted the CWG in 1998. The last edition was held in Birmingham, England. However, there are a lot of doubts&nbsp;regarding the future of the next edition. At present, questions are been raised across the globe over the continued relevance and benefits&nbsp;of the mega event given its current complexity.

Mohd Nazifuddin Najib, the secretary-general of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), on Monday also brought forward several measures to cut down on costs. He suggested&nbsp;using standard hotels and accommodation to house athletes and officials rather than going for building a dedicated Games Village.

Further, he told reporters that Malaysia could also redirect some of its budget for the Southeast Asian Games, which&nbsp;is slated to be held in the country&nbsp;in 2027, towards the Commonwealth event.

In this regard, he pointed out, "We feel that this can be a downsized Games. For example, it doesn’t have to be 15 sports, it can be 10 sports. And then we have a smaller opening and smaller closing (ceremonies). We can discuss all of this but it’s best for this decision to come from the government.”

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, at the invitation of his counterparts, will be on an official visit to Singapore, Philippines and Malaysia from March 23-27, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Saturday (Mar 16).

The three-nation visit of Jaishankar will focus on “enhancing bilateral relations” and would provide an “opportunity for engagement on regional issues of mutual concern,” the MEA said.

Commonwealth Games chiefs praised Malaysia’s “fantastic track record” after the country said it had been offered £100 million ($130 million) to host the 2026 edition.

The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) is scrambling to find a host after the Australian state of Victoria abruptly pulled out in July last year citing the cost.

Victoria’s sudden move and the lack of an obvious alternative triggered debate about the future of the Games, which take place every four years and were last held in Birmingham in 2022.

On Monday, the Olympic Council of Malaysia said that the London-based CGF had “offered Malaysia the opportunity to replace Victoria as hosts of the Commonwealth Games in 2026.

“The offer includes significant financial investment of £100 million to support the local delivery and legacy planning of the 2026 edition.”

Malaysia held the Games in 1998.

Mohamad Norza Zakaria, president of the Commonwealth Games Association of Malaysia, called it a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity... which will build on the success of Kuala Lumpur 1998 and put Malaysia back onto the world sporting map”.

A CGF spokesperson suggested that Malaysia was not the only country that could potentially stage the Games in 2026, saying the organisation was “in advanced, confidential discussions with potential hosts”.

But the spokesperson added: “Malaysia has a fantastic track record of delivering sporting events, and the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur were hugely successful.

“We are encouraged by their early concepts of building on this legacy through use of many of the same world-class facilities.”

The spokesperson said that the £100 million of “financial and strategic support” was on offer for any potential host as part of the Victoria withdrawal settlement.
