More military aid is on the way for Ukraine as Denmark and the Netherlands announced Thursday that they will jointly donate 14 Leopard 2 tanks to the nation battling Russian forces on its soil. The Leopard 2A4 tanks will be bought from a third party and refurbished before being sent to Ukraine. They are likely to be delivered in the first quarter of 2024, the two countries said in a joint statement.

"It is absolutely crucial for the hope of a peaceful and secure Europe that we do not let the Ukrainians fight the battle alone," Denmark's acting Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said.

Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands had announced in February that they will pool resources to restore at least 100 old Leopard 1 tanks from industry stocks. In a joint statement, the three countries also talked about providing the "required logistic support and training" for the tanks.&nbsp;

On Wednesday, the United States also announced $325 million in new military aid for Ukraine. As part of the latest package additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), advanced missiles and anti-tank mines will be given to Ukraine.

This is the 36th security package for Ukraine since the Russian invasion in February 2022. The total US military assistance for the Kyiv government now stands at more than $35.4 billion.

"This security assistance package includes more ammunition for U.S.-provided HIMARS and artillery rounds, as well as anti-armour systems, small arms, logistics support vehicles, and maintenance support essential to strengthening Ukraine’s defenders on the battlefield," US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement.

Further, Reuters reported that the US plans to coordinate closely with South Korea on more support for Ukraine.&nbsp;

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol had earlier said Seoul might go beyond humanitarian or financial aid for Ukraine under certain circumstances.&nbsp;

"The ROK (Republic of Korea) has been a stalwart partner in defending Ukraine's right to territorial sovereignty against Russian aggression from the earliest days of the full-scale invasion," a US State Department spokesperson told Reuters when asked about Yoon's comments.

"We will continue to coordinate closely with our ally on additional support for Ukraine," the spokesperson said.

South Korea has stayed away from giving weapons to Ukraine to avoid angering Moscow as several Korean companies operate in Russia and because of its influence over North Korea.

The Ukrainian envoy, however, did not give a breakdown of the number of tanks per country.&nbsp;His comments come as the US has assured to supply 31 M1 Abrams tanks and Germany agreed to send 14 Leopard 2 A6s.

“I express serious concern over the U.S. escalating the war situation by providing Ukraine with military hardware for ground offensive," Kim Yo Jong said in the statement.

"The United States and Western countries have neither right nor justification to slander sovereign states' exercise of the right to self-defence," she added.

Ukraine calls pledges made by US and Germany to send tanks 'only the beginning'

Germany, on Wednesday, announced that it will&nbsp;supply its Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. A report in the German news outlet Der Spiegel Tuesday evening had said that the decision is almost final and will be announced soon.&nbsp;The decision follows "months of debate", according to the report, and will help bolster the country’s war effort against Russia.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the US is also expected to make an announcement Wednesday on sending its heavy tanks to Ukraine.&nbsp;

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky&nbsp;said "thank you to Germany, to Britain and to the US" for Germany's decision to send Leopold 2 tanks to Ukraine.

The matter was debated in the German parliament Wednesday morning. This now marks a landmark moment in the West's support for Kyiv. Notably, Berlin has been under pressure from several of its NATO supporters over the matter.

Even though neither Berlin, nor Washington have confirmed the development, officials in Ukraine hailed the decision.&nbsp;

"A few hundred tanks for our tank crews .... This is what is going to become a real punching fist of democracy," Andriy Yermak, the head of Zelensky's administration, wrote on Telegram.

"We will apply for reimbursement to the European Union, it will be another test of good will," said the PM while addressing a press conference, as per Reuters.&nbsp;

However, Germany is yet to confirm if they have received such a request from Warsaw. Berlin whose&nbsp;approval is required for the re-export of Leopard tanks&nbsp;has been reluctant as German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's government believe&nbsp;their response can be viewed as an escalation or provocation by Russia.&nbsp;

Previously, Scholz said that sending tanks to Ukraine, which Kyiv has long sought, would have to be coordinated with the entire Western alliance, including the United States.

The request also comes after the German foreign minister, Annalena Baerbock, on Sunday, said that their government “if we were asked we would not stand in the way,” referring to the request for the Munich-based defence company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann manufactured Leopard 2 tanks.&nbsp;

While there are at least 2,000 such tanks across&nbsp;several European countries,&nbsp;since they are German-made it would require the authorisation of the country of origin.&nbsp;So far, Ukraine’s allies like Poland and the Czech Republic have only been willing to send the country Soviet-era T-72 tanks.&nbsp;

On Sunday, Prime Minister Morawiecki said that he was waiting for a clear signal from Berlin whether countries who have Leopards could transfer them to Kyiv. He further pointed out that if Berlin refuses, "we will set up a 'small coalition' of countries ready to donate some of their modern equipment, their modern tanks," the report added.&nbsp;

On Friday, a meeting of about 50 Ukrainian allies led by the United States was held at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany during which the supply of the Leopard&nbsp;tanks to Ukraine was one of the dominating issues. The countries agreed to provide billions of dollars worth of military hardware, including ample armoured vehicles and munitions needed to push back the Russian military. However, German defence minister Boris Pistorius, who was a part of the meeting, said, "We still cannot say when a decision will be taken, and what the decision will be when it comes to the Leopard tank." 
 
On Saturday, the foreign ministers of the three Baltic states urged Berlin to provide Leopard tanks to Ukraine now.&nbsp;
