The International Criminal Court (ICC) on Tuesday (June 25) said it has issued arrest warrants for Russia's former defence minister and military chief over alleged crimes during Russia's war against Ukraine.

The arrest warrants for the Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov and former defence minister Sergei Shoigu were issued on Monday but were made public on Tuesday.

Both Shoigu and Gerasimov were accused of having committed war crimes for directing attacks against civilians and civilian objects and crimes against humanity over "inhumane acts" during Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the ICC said in a&nbsp;statement.

ICC judges said there were "reasonable grounds to believe that the two suspects bear responsibility for missile strikes carried out by the Russian armed forces against the Ukrainian electric infrastructure from at least 10 October 2022 until at least 9 March 2023."

The court stated that the Russian air offensive was "directed against civilian objects" and even if the targets the strikes were aimed at were military, the civilian damage "would have been clearly excessive to the anticipated military advantage."

"We understand that this will be an enduring conflict and we will be contributing more in the future because we are determined to stand side by side with Ukraine for as long as it takes for Ukraine to prevail," he added.

Australia, on April 17 announced that it would increase the defence spending by A$50.3 billion ($32 billion) in the next 10 years and also make changes in its weapons program emphasising more on missiles, drones and warships as it foresees the possibility of a Pacific conflict between China and the United States.

Media reports citing&nbsp;sources familiar with the attack said that the facility was obliterated by six missiles on Thursday (Apr 11) morning.&nbsp;

The attack resulted in a blaze engulfing the facility. The facility is owned by Centrenergo, a state-operated electricity and heat producer, reports said.

The facility is owned by Centrenergo, a state-operated electricity and heat producer, reports said. Ukraine early on Sunday (Mar 24) launched attacks on the annexed Crimean peninsula and said that it "successfully hit" two Russian large landing ships along with a communications centre and several infrastructure facilities of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.

The Ukrainian military in its statement did not specify the medium it chose to hit the targets, however, a Moscow-installed official in the region reported a major Ukrainian air attack and stated that the air defences had downed more than 10 missiles over the Crimean port of Sevastopol.

"The defence forces of Ukraine successfully hit the Azov and Yamal large landing ships, a communications centre and also several infrastructure facilities of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in temporarily occupied Crimea," Ukraine's military said.

Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Russian-installed governor of Sevastopol, on the Telegram messaging application stated that transport infrastructure including the passenger boats was partially damaged, according to news agency Reuters reports.

"Of the six boats, five had their windows broken ... During the day, the windows of the damaged boats will be replaced and as they are restored they will be brought back online," he said.

Razvozhayev further stated that during the overnight attacks, several vehicles were damaged which included three passenger buses, 13 school buses and one trolley bus.

"Explosions in the capital. Air defence is working. Do not leave shelters," Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko posted on Telegram. Lviv regional governor Maksym Kozytskyi said Stryi district, south of the city of Lviv, was also under attack.

The assault comes as Russia mourns the tragic terrorist attack on the Moscow concert hall and blames Ukraine for it.

Ukraine's air defence forces destroyed about a dozen Russia-launched missiles, said Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv's military administration, on Telegram. Preliminary information showed no casualties or major damage as a result of the attacks, he added.
