The Karnataka Ratna was last awarded to Dr Virendra Heggade in 2009 for his social service. Apart from him, Puneeth`s father Dr Rajkumar was among the first recipients of the state`s highest civilian award in 1992 for his work in the entertainment industry. Puneeth Rajkumar passed away last year on October 29 following a cardiac arrest at the age of 46.&nbsp;

The trust vote will now be held on Monday, July 22 with the ruling party leaders claiming that a number of speakers were still there to participate in the debate on the confidence motion moved by Kumaraswamy on Thursday.

After a day-long debate and drama marked by heated exchanges between the ruling and opposition members over the powers of a Governor and the need to respect his directive.

As the House resumed proceedings in the morning, the Governor shot off a missive to the Chief Minister to <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/karnataka-governor-issues-new-deadline-to-cm-kumaraswamy-for-floor-test-congress-moves-supreme-court-237114">prove his majority by 1:30 pm</a>.

There was a lot of debate on the directive itself and in the midst of uproar, Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar adjourned the House till 3 pm.

This was followed by another directive from the Governor that the confidence vote business should be completed by 6 pm.

Intervening in the debate, Kumaraswamy virtually ruled out proving his majority in the Assembly by the second deadline set by the Governor, when he sought protection from the Assembly Speaker in the matter.

He said the "second love letter" sent by Vala asking him to prove majority in the Assembly before 6 pm today hurt him and asked him whether he came to know of horse-trading only now.

"I leave the decision on the floor test to you (the Speaker). It won't be directed by Delhi. I request you to protect me from the letter sent by the Governor," Kumaraswamy had said.

The Chief Minister also moved the Supreme Court challenging the Governor's directive to the government saying it was in violation of well-settled law laid down by the court.

He and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Chief Dinesh Gundu Rao challenged in the apex court its July 17 order which they contended fettered the political parties'&nbsp;right to issue a whip to its MLAs to attend the proceedings of the House in the confidence motion.

They were seeking clarification on the July 17 order which allowed the 15 rebel MLAs now holed up in a Mumbai hotel the freedom to participate or not.

Displaying photos of BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa's personal assistant Santosh purportedly boarding a plane with independent MLA H Nagesh in the Assembly, the chief minister suggested that horse-trading indulged in by BJP was on for the last 10 days.

Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy will be flying back to India from the US on Sunday evening.

Karnataka coalition government of Janata Dal (Secular) and Congress on Saturday slumped into crisis following the resignation of their 11 MLAs from the membership of the state Assembly.

However, JD(S) MLA H Vishwanath claimed that 14 MLAs have jointly tendered resignations to Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar and requested him to accept them.

The Speaker, however, has not yet accepted the resignations. Siddaramaiah late on Saturday evening held a meeting with his party MLAs where he is believed to have discussed among other things the current political situation in the state.

The meeting took place at his house. The strength of the ruling coalition in Karnataka has come down to 105, which is eight short of the half-way mark of 113 for a majority.

Congress MLAs Anand Singh and Ramesh Jarkiholi resigned from the government earlier this week.

Those MLAs, who resigned from the Assembly, include BC Patil, H Vishwanath, Narayan Gowda, S Hebbar, Mahesh Kumatalli, Gopalayya, Ramesh Jarkiholi, and Pratap Gowda Patil. The dissident MLAs have reached Mumbai and are staying in Sofitel hotel.&nbsp;

The Karnataka BJP had condemned the chief minister's outburst and threatened to stage state-wide agitations if Kumaraswamy did not apologise to the masses.

After the rout in the Lok Sabha polls, the ruling coalition fears an onslaught by the BJP to destabilise the government by taking advantage of the simmering discontent.

The BJP and Yeddyurappa had earlier predicted the collapse of the coalition after the Lok Sabha poll results, claiming that 20 odd Congress MLAs were unhappy and may take "a decision" anytime.

I have the responsibility of running the government smoothly," he said at an event in&nbsp;Channapatna in Karnataka.

This was not the first time when Kumaraswamy had an emotional outburst at a public event.

In May 2018, Kumaraswamy said that he was at mercy of the Congress because JD(S) did not get an absolute majority. A month later in July, the chief minister burst into tears at a public rally stating that he was not happy being in the top post and was swallowing the pain like ‘Vishakantha’ (Lord Shiva), who drank poison.

However, senior Congress leader and former Karnataka chief minister refuted the reports of any rift between JD(S) and Congress. "There is absolutely no threat to the government in Karnataka, there is no problem. They (BJP) are trying desperately but they will not succeed," he said.&nbsp;

Janata Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy is set to take oath as the 18th Chief Minister of Karnataka at the Vidhana Soudha, around 4:30 p.m. today.

Alongside Kumaraswamy, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President G. Parameshwara will take oath as the Deputy Chief Minister. Governor Vajubhai Vala will administer an oath of office and oath of secrecy to the Chief Minister Designate. Minister designates to take oath as well.

On the much-awaited day, Kumaraswamy will be leaving for Mysore in the early hours to visit the Chamundi Temple and Chamundeshwari Temple. He will return to Bengaluru by noon for the swearing-in ceremony.

A day before, top leaders from Congress and JD(S) met to discuss the portfolio sharing between the allies, and decided that 22 out of 34 ministries would be helmed by the Congress and 12 ministries including the Chief Minister would go with the JD(S).

Congress` KR Ramesh Kumar will be the Speaker of Karnataka`s Vidhana Soudha, while the deputy speaker will be appointed from the JD(S).

The speaker will be elected on Friday, May 25, with the floor test expected to take place after that.&nbsp;

Rest of the ministry and portfolio allocation will be decided after the floor test which is due to be held on May 24.

Major movers in the Sensex kitty included Coal India, Power Grid, Wipro, SBI, Kotak Bank, Sun Pharma, ICICI Bank, TCS, Infosys, M&M, L&T and Maruti Suzuki, rising up to 1.79 per cent.

Tata Steel, however, fell 0.83 per cent despite the company yesterday reporting a consolidated net profit of Rs 14,688.02 crore for the fourth quarter ended March, 2018.

Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 229.06 crore, while foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 699.22 crore yesterday, as per provisional data.

In the rest of Asia, Japan's Nikkei rose 0.44 per cent, Hong Kong's Hang Seng inched up 0.01 per cent, while Shanghai Composite Index shed 0.35 per cent in early deals.

JD(S), Congress agree on HD Kumaraswamy as Karnataka Chief Minister

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has sent a legal notice to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Amit Shah, and the BJP's chief minister candidate for Karnataka BS Yeddyurappa.&nbsp;

The brother of the deceased deputy superintendent of police Ganapathi is a relieved man after a CBI probe was ordered into the murder of his brother.

The Karnataka Police have registered an FIR against Karnataka minister KJ George in connection with the suicide of&nbsp;the&nbsp;police officer.&nbsp;Two senior cops have also been named in the FIR.

The cops are former IGP (Lokayukta) Pranov Mohanty and ADGP (state intelligence) AM Prasad, PTI reported.
