<p>The Mirage-2000 aircraft played a crucial role in the battles fought during the war and also hit enemy targets bunkered in at the Tiger Hill. During the war, the IAF had conducted operation Safed Sagar as a part of operation Vijay of the army.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A number of events have been planned by the army in Delhi and Dras in Jammu and Kashmir next month to mark the 20th anniversary of the 'Kargil Vijay Diwas', officials had earlier said. The anniversary celebrations for this year will be spread over three days from July 25-27.</p>

<p>"However, as part of the build-up to the main event, numerous activities have been planned to be organised all over the country from the first week of July," an official said.</p>

<p>Hitting out at Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, National Democratic Alliance (NDA) vice-presidential nominee M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday asked Islamabad to recall the 1971 war and said that aiding and abetting terror will not help them.</p>

<p>The NDA nominee said that on this day we should recall the valor of our brave soldiers and their sacrifices which got us back the Kargil heights.The Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 was a military confrontation between India and Pakistan that occurred during the liberation war in East Pakistan, from 3 December 1971 to the fall of Dacca (Dhaka) on 16 December 1971.</p>

<p>The 1971 war began with pre-emptive aerial strikes on 11 Indian air stations that led to the commencement of hostilities with Pakistan and India&nbsp;entering the war of independence in East Pakistan in support of Bengali nationalist forces. Lasting just 13 days, it is one of the shortest wars in history.</p>

Not an inch of Kashmir will be ceded: Venkaiah Naidu warns Pakistan

<p>Indian Army paid tribute to the fallen heroes of 1999 Kargil War with Pakistan on its 17th anniversary on Monday.</p>

<p>The Kargil War was an armed conflict between India and Pakistan that took place in the summer of 1999 in Kargil and elsewhere along the Line of Control (LoC) in&nbsp;Kashmir.</p>

<p>Kargil is located 205 kilometres from Kashmir&#39;s capital Srinagar, and faces Pakistan&#39;s so-called northern areas across the LoC.</p>

<p>Army Chief General Dalbir Singh laid a wreath at the war memorial in Kargil&#39;s Drass town and remembered the country&#39;s war heroes.</p>

<p>&quot;In 1999 it is this very area and these treacherous peaks which were intruded by the Pak intruders. Our gallant soldiers recaptured them in very short time and some of them made supreme sacrifice,&quot; said General Singh.</p>

<p>The conflict, which claimed the lives of nearly 500 soldiers, many of whom were posthumously given gallantry awards, is also referred to as Operation Vijay, which was the name of the Indian operation that cleared the Kargil sector.</p>
