Inter Milan on Friday announced the appointment of former Italy manager Antonio Conte as coach with the ambition of returning to the top of world football.

The 49-year-old has signed a three-year contract worth nine million euros ($10 million) plus bonuses, according to press reports.

He replaces Luciano Spalletti who secured Chinese-owned Inter's <a href="https://www.google.com/url?client=internal-uds-cse&amp;cx=006054055338965708568:09spwrlibei&amp;q=https://www.wionews.com/sports/tottenhams-danny-rose-never-imagined-reaching-champions-league-final-222555&amp;sa=U&amp;ved=2ahUKEwji6Le8jcXiAhWBKY8KHexuCx0QFjAAegQIARAC&amp;usg=AOvVaw1i4p9kDdLt_v-bXir-QeiQ">Champions League</a> berth for a second consecutive year on the final day of the Serie A season last Sunday.

With the 18-time Serie A champions searching for a first trophy since the Coppa Italia in 2011, Conte boasts a powerful pedigree.

He won the first three of <a href="https://www.google.com/url?client=internal-uds-cse&amp;cx=006054055338965708568:09spwrlibei&amp;q=https://www.wionews.com/sports/cristiano-ronaldo-hits-600th-club-goal-as-juventus-hold-inter-milan-214063&amp;sa=U&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjro9OjjcXiAhUGOSsKHXAXAO0QFjACegQIDxAC&amp;usg=AOvVaw36cyqJn4Rv9T9FPcv0_n5-">Juventus'</a> eight straight Serie A titles and the Premier League and FA Cup as Chelsea boss.

"A new chapter is opening in my life. I can't wait. I have chosen Inter because of the club it is, for its plans and ambition," Conte said.

Inter chairman Steve Wang added,&nbsp;"I am sure Antonio Conte is one of the best coaches.

"I am sure he will help us to reach our target ... to make this club one of the best in the world again," Wang said.

Conte had also been linked with a return to champions Juventus, after his successor in Turin Massimiliano Allegri was removed.

Spalletti took over at Inter in mid-2017 having previously coached Zenit Saint Petersburg and Roma.

But it proved a season of highs and lows with the club eliminated at the group stage of the Champions League in which they were drawn with Barcelona and Tottenham.

They fell in the last 16 of the <a href="https://www.google.com/url?client=internal-uds-cse&amp;cx=006054055338965708568:09spwrlibei&amp;q=https://www.wionews.com/photos/chelse-lift-the-europa-league-cup-as-hazard-scores-twice-as-parting-gift-222736&amp;sa=U&amp;ved=2ahUKEwiCn73JjcXiAhVCVXwKHTz6ASsQFjAAegQIBhAB&amp;usg=AOvVaw1vVLJIMZd-I6NokNpgrrfP">Europa League</a>.

Inter snatched fourth place, equal on points with Atalanta, but behind the side from Bergamo on head-to-head difference, to edge city rivals AC Milan by just one point in the race for elite European football.

Inter announced Spalletti's departure on Thursday with Zhang paying tribute to the 60-year-old who paid for failing to lift any silverware.

Inter Milan appoint Antonio Conte as new coach; Luciano Spalletti parts ways

Juventus's Champions League quarter-final defeat by a young Ajax Amsterdam side last month was more than just a shock result -- it was a footballing lesson for the team who have dominated Serie A this season.

In particular, it was clear the Dutch side, with their pinpoint passing exchanges and relentless pressing, had one thing their Turin opponents lacked -- an easily identifiable style of play.

Despite winning a fifth successive Serie A title with Juventus this season, it was no surprise when the club announced on Friday that <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/massimiliano-allegri-to-leave-juventus-at-end-of-season-219433">coach Massimiliano Allegri would leave after this season</a>, one year before the end of his contract.

Allegri, 51, has always said that winning major titles should never be underestimated, yet there was something strangely unsatisfying about this season's campaign.

There were none of the thrilling displays served up by teams such as Manchester City or Ajax, nor the raw passion of Juergen Klopp's Liverpool.

Instead, Juve relied on their resilience, flexibility, moments of individual brilliance from five-times World Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo and even, sometimes, just a lucky break.

It was enough to win them another Italian title -- their eighth in a row altogether including Allegri's five -- but not enough to bring them the Champions League, which was seen as the priority after defeats in the 2015 and 2017 finals.

They also failed to win the Italian Cup this season after Allegri last term became the first manager in Europe's top five leagues to win four consecutive doubles.

The reasons for his departure have not yet been explained, with the coach and club president Andrea Agnelli due to give a news conference on Saturday.

Maybe he was running short of motivation.

When a team dominates their national league in the way Juve have done and set the Champions League as the main target, it means the season does not effectively begin until February when the knockout stages of the European competition get underway.

Anything before that -- establishing a lead at the top of the league and getting through the Champions League group stage -- becomes an obligation rather than a challenge.

Transfer policy

Gazzetta dello Sport suggested that Allegri also wanted more control over the club's transfer policy.

Juventus splurged more than 250 million euros ($278.90 million) in the transfer market in the close season, yet more of that went on their reserve goalkeeper, Mattia Perin, than improving the midfield.

In attack, Ronaldo cost 117 million euros and winger Douglas Costa another 40 million, while at the back 40 million went on right back Joao Cancelo and 35 million on bringing back central defender Leonardo Bonucci from AC Milan.

But the midfield was not strengthened, and it showed on the pitch with too much sterile possession.

When Allegri took over five years ago, his midfield included Andrea Pirlo, Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba.

Today, it is still an impressive lineup - Miralem Pjanic, Rodrigo Bentancur, Emre Can and Blaise Matuidi have all played for their countries. But it is not quite enough for a team with Champions League title ambitions.

Critics said that Allegri was also partly to blame, as his constant chopping and changing may have prevented the players from developing a true understanding.

Allegri's first words after the announcement were to an Italian comedy programme.

"It took five years to build this Juve, but that’s that. Life goes around," he said.

"I’m going home now, then I’ll have a little break by the sea. I don’t know who will follow me but Juve will choose a great coach because Juventus are a great club."

Juventus head coach Massimiliano Allegri praises Cristiano Ronaldo's mental strength

Coach <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/we-must-forget-champions-league-disappointment-says-juventus-boss-massimiliano-allegri-211943">Massimiliano Allegri</a> will leave Serie A champions Juventus at the end of the season after guiding them to five straight Italian titles, the club said on Friday.

"Massimiliano Allegri will not be on the Juventus bench for the 2019/2020 season," the club announced in a surprise development.

Allegri, 55, held meetings with the club's hierarchy earlier in the week during which a clear disagreement between the two parties emerged.

He had rejected reports saying he was about to be dismissed last Saturday adding he had already been making plans for the side's future for the past six months.

Juventus have already wrapped up their record eighth consecutive title, and Allegri's fifth in as many years and he lifted the Coppa Italia on four occasions since replacing Antonio Conte in 2014.

The club's former midfielder Conte along with France boss and ex-defender and boss Didier Deschamps, Champions League finalist Mauricio Pochettino of Tottenham and Lazio's Simone Inzaghi have been linked with taking over from Allegri in the Italian press in recent weeks.

Allegri's name shot up the bookmaker's list of favourites to be the next permanent coach at Inter Milan and Chelsea despite both sides already having men in place.

Despite signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid last summer the Bianconeri failed to make it past the quarter-finals of the European football's top competition for the second successive season.

They were humiliated by modest-spending Ajax in the last eight in April despite a star-studded side including Ronaldo, Argentina's Paulo Dybala and France World Cup winner Blaise Matuidi.

Allegri guided Juve to two European finals losing to Barcelona in 2015 before being hammered by Real Madrid two years later.

Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey has already signed for the Italian club on a free transfer from Arsenal for next season.

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri shrugs off questions over his future

Cristiano Ronaldo scored the 600th goal of his club career to earn Italian champions Juventus a 1-1 draw away to Inter Milan in Serie A on Saturday.

The Turin club wrapped up an eighth successive league title last weekend but found themselves behind early on to a wonder-strike from Inter midfielder Radja Nainggolan.

However, the Portuguese responded with a powerful finish in the second half to hit 20 league goals for the season, moving within two strikes of Serie A's leading scorer, Fabio Quagliarella of Sampdoria, in the process.

"I have Cristiano Ronaldo and I'm happy," Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri told DAZN.

"Having a player like him is important, as after making a mistake he was very angry and went on to play a different match."

Inter remain in third place on 62 points, four ahead of AS Roma below them, while Juventus, who dropped points for just the sixth time in 34 games this season, move up to 88.

"In the first half we suffered on dead ball situations, we could've gone 2-0 behind, but then we had a great second half," Allegri said.

"Inter is a strong team, fighting for the Champions League. It wasn't easy, we were down to the bare bones. We've got to compliment the lads, as we ended on a high."

This fixture, known as the 'Derby d'Italia', is one of the country's fiercest rivalries. The home fans taunted the visitors with a pre-match mosaic of placards featuring the Champions League trophy alongside the words 'Game Over', referencing Juve's quarter-final exit to Ajax Amsterdam in April.

The home support were left delighted just seven minutes in when Nainggolan latched onto Matteo Politano's dipping pass and unleashed a swerving volley from 25 yards out that flew past Juve goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny into the corner.

Ronaldo drew Juventus level after 62 minutes, exchanging passes with Miralem Pjanic before drilling a left-footed finish into the bottom corner.

It was the 600th goal of the 34-year-old's club career, with 450 having come at Real Madrid, 118 at Manchester United, 27 at Juventus and five at Sporting Lisbon.

The Portugal international is narrowly ahead of Lionel Messi, who scored his 598th goal for Barcelona to help them win the Spanish La Liga title with a 1-0 win over Levante on Saturday.

Cristiano Ronaldo hits 600th club goal as Juventus hold Inter Milan

First it was the club emblem, where the distinctive bull was removed to make way for a minimalist white letter J on a black background.

Two years later, Juventus may be preparing to make an even bigger break with tradition and ditch their famous black-and-white striped shirts after 116 years.

Gazzetta dello Sport as well as a number of social media feeds on Wednesday published what they said were leaked photographs of the 2019/20 "home" strip. In a dramatic departure, the shirt featured one black half and one white half, divided by a thin pink line.

Juventus would not confirm the kit change. "We never comment leaks or rumours," a spokesman told Reuters. But the pictures, which included the shirt being worn by first-team players Paulo Dybala and Federico Bernardeschi, quickly stirred up controversy.

The English language blog "Black and White and Read All Over" said that the change "pretty much means Juventus will be ditching their history for a year in the hopes of making more of a fashion statement more than anything else."

Founded by students in 1897, Juventus initially played in pink but that colour quickly fell out of favour, especially as they did not want to be confused with Palermo -- who wear pink until this day.

One of the Juventus players, Englishman John Savage, had connections to Notts County and in 1903 asked if they could send a replacement. The English club agreed and ever since, Juventus have been playing in their familiar zebra stripes.

Although the release of new kits is seen as a key part of modern football marketing, it is rare for teams to do more than tinker around the edges of the so-called "home kit".

One notable exception was Brazil. Their combination of gold shirts and blue shorts is one of the most iconic kits in football but they only adopted it in 1953.

Previously, they played in white which became seen as unpatriotic due to the lack of national colours.

Following their failure to win the 1950 World Cup on home soil, the Correio da Manha newspaper ran a competition to design a new kit, won by 19-year-old Aldyr Garcia Schlee. Brazil have worn his Canarinho (Canary kit) ever since.

Liverpool used to play in red shirts, white shorts and white socks only adopted their all-red kit in 1964 when the then manager Bill Shankly thought it would have a psychological impact on opponents.

Coincidence or not, both Brazil and Liverpool went on to enjoy years of success after their kit changes.

However, playing with tradition is not something to be taken lightly. When the Red Bull energy drinks manufacturer took over at Austrian club Salzburg in 2005, they changed to the traditional purple kit to their corporate colours of white and red.

When fans pleaded for them to rethink, the club made one concession: the goalkeeper's away kit would feature purple socks. Fans were so annoyed that they formed a breakaway club.

First it was the club emblem, where the distinctive bull was removed to make way for a minimalist white letter J on a black background. Two years later, Juventus may be preparing to make an even bigger break with tradition and ditch their famous black-and-white striped shirts after 116 years.

The English language blog "Black and White and Read All Over" said that the change "pretty much means Juventus will be ditching their history for a year in the hopes of making more of a fashion statement more than anything else." Founded by students in 1897, Juventus initially played in pink but that colour quickly fell out of favour, especially as they did not want to be confused with Palermo -- who wear pink until this day. Football: Juventus to ditch stripes after 116 years?

From Ronaldo's effect to Allegri's game style, here are things that helped Juventus win eighth straight Serie A crown

Juventus clinched their eighth consecutive Serie A title on Saturday with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Fiorentina.

Alex Sandro's diving header on 37 minutes and an own goal from Fiorentina defender German Pezzella after a Cristiano Ronaldo cross in the 53rd minute sealed a 35th Scudetto.

Serbian defender Nikola Milenkovic had put Fiorentina ahead after less than six minutes.

Bolstered by five-time Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo, Juventus dominated the domestic league this season and are 20 points clear of nearest rivals Napoli with just five games to play.

Massimiliano Allegri's side have lost only two matches, against Genoa and SPAL, with 28 wins and three draws.

Their eight straight title sees Juventus overtake French club Lyon for the record of consecutive victories in the top five European leagues.

Juventus also equalled the record for the earliest the Italian title has been won, with five games to spare, achieved by&nbsp;Torino in 1948, Fiorentina in 1956 and Inter Milan in 2007.

Allegri's side had needed just one more point to seal victory after their shock Champions League exit at the Juventus Stadium to Ajax last Tuesday.

Juventus have been hit hard by injuries with defender Giorgio Chiellini out along with Sami Khedira, Mario Mandzukic, Paulo Dybala and Douglas Costa.

Ronaldo threatened early, but defender Milenkovic gave Fiorentina hope of a first win in eight trips to the Allianz Stadium.

Giovanni Simeone had the ball in the back of the net on 25 minutes but the goal was ruled offside, before Sandro got his head to Miralem Pjanic's corner to pull the teams level before the break.

Ronaldo threatened after the break, crossing for Federico Bernardeschi, but Pezzella clumsily turned into his own net.

Allegri brought on teenage star Moise Kean in place of Bernardeschi on 74 minutes, but the 19-year-old could not add to his six goals scored in his previous six appearances.

Ronaldo will have to settle for a Serie A title in his first season in Italy after missing out on a sixth Champions League crown.

It was the 34-year-old's sixth domestic league title, having won three with Manchester United and two with Real Madrid.

The Portuguese now has 28 trophies in total, including the Euro 2016 title with Portugal.

Juventus also remain on track to match the record 102 points achieved under Antonio Conte in 2014.

Juventus win eighth consecutive Serie A title

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri said that his team should focus on winning record-breaking eighth straight Serie A title and leave behind the disappointment of losing to Ajax in the Champions League.&nbsp;

"Luckily tomorrow we have the chance to win the title, and we must do it tomorrow. We need to get over the disappointment of the elimination in the Champions League," said Allegri in a press conference.&nbsp;

"We need to accept that and move on, because we can't go back in time and we can't change the score. Looking for justifications or alibis is just stuff for those who can never win," Allegri added.&nbsp;

Juventus need just a draw at home against Fiorentina on Saturday to win the title with five matches to spare.&nbsp;

On Cristiano Ronaldo, Allegri said, "I always said that Ronaldo's arrival was not like math, Juventus plus Ronaldo wasn't necessarily the Champions League title. Football is not an exact science."&nbsp;

We must forget Champions League disappointment, says Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri

From Cristiano Ronaldo's struggle to Lionel Messi's double, major takeaways from UEFA Champions League quarter-finals second-leg

Ajax Amsterdam followed up their elimination of Real Madrid by producing a spell-binding display of inventive, passing football to win 2-1 away to Juventus on Tuesday and end the Serie A team's dreams of winning the Champions League.

Ajax's 19-year-old captain Matthijs de Ligt headed the winner from the corner in the 67th minute of the quarter-final second leg as the Dutch side came from behind to clinch a 3-2 aggregate win and reach the last four for the first time since 1996/97.

Cristiano Ronaldo, aiming for a fourth successive Champions League title after winning the last three with Real Madrid, put Juventus ahead in the 28th minute with a typically emphatic header, his sixth goal of the competition.

But Donny van de Beek levelled six minutes later before the visitors swept Juventus aside in the second half with wave after wave of attacks as they earned a semi-final against Manchester City or Tottenham Hotspur.

"Can we can go on to win the competition? Well, we are in the semi-finals now. And we have eliminated two of the favourites in the last two rounds. The next games will be very difficult, but so were these ones. So who knows?," said De Ligt.

Frenkie de Jong added: "We dominated after the break and were well worth our victory. In fact, we probably should have won by more."

Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana gave his team an early scare when his clearance was charged down by Emre Can but the rebound flew wide.

Ajax settled well after that but, despite not playing well, Juventus went ahead when Ronaldo got away from the defenders to score the 126th Champions League goal of his career.

There was a long delay for the VAR review, the referee eventually going to the pitchside monitor with the ball back on the centre circle ready for the re-start, before the goal was confirmed.

Ajax kept their cool and took six minutes to level, helped by a somewhat lucky break.

Hakim Ziyech's long-range shot hit a defender and fell perfectly for Van de Beek who, unmarked and onside, slotted the ball calmly past Wojciech Szczesny, and then had to wait for another long VAR check before the goal was confirmed.

Ajax took complete control in the second half and their geometric passing repeatedly opened up the Juventus defence, which sorely missed injured veteran Giorgio Chiellini.

Szczesny made one-handed save from Ziyech after Juventus were opened up again and then turned Van de Beek's curling shot over for a corner.

Juventus were rocking but, ironically, Ajax's winner came from an old-fashioned header as De Ligt outjumped two defenders to score.

Ajax had chances for further goals and Ronaldo's frustration boiled over in stoppage time when he was booked for a lunging tackle from behind near the centre circle.

UCL Q/F Preview: Juventus v Ajax (WION Sports)

Juventus missed the chance to clinch an eighth consecutive Serie A title on Saturday as SPAL stunned them by coming from behind to win 2-1 at the Stadio Paolo Mazza, their first victory over Juve in 62 years.

Massimiliano Allegri’s side, already on 84 points, knew a draw would be enough to wrap up the championship with six rounds remaining and took the lead in the first half through Moise Kean.

However, the home side fought back after the break as goals from Kevin Bonifazi and Sergio Floccari secured their first win against the Italian champions since February 1957.

The Turin club can still be named champions this weekend if second-placed Napoli fail to win away to rock-bottom Chievo on Sunday.

Allegri stood by his decision to pick a heavily rotated side, with an eye towards Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Ajax in Turin, after the first leg ended 1-1.

“It would’ve been easy to field the first choice XI today and get the Scudetto but we’ve had such a remarkable run of results this season that it was more important to focus on the Champions League game coming up," he told Sky Italia.

“The key to Juventus winning the Scudetto is that we do well in the head-to-head clashes but above all bring home the points everywhere else.

"You usually win the Scudetto with 84-86 points but last term Napoli had 91 –- a club record –- and still finished second, so our performance that season was extraordinary."

It was Juventus’s second defeat of the league season and they remain 20 points clear of Napoli, while SPAL have risen to 13th place on 35 points, seven clear of the relegation zone.

Andrea Barzagli and Juan Cuadrado returned for Juve after injury lay-offs, while 17-year-old defender Paolo Gozzi and midfielder Grigoris Kastanos made their Serie A debuts for the club, as did substitute Stephy Mavdidi.

“We had a lot of young players and they did well but above all the second goal showed a lack of experience,” Allegri added.

“We reacted well in the second half but couldn’t get the game back on track. Paolo Gozzi had a good game, including after Barzagli went off. Kastanos was struggling a little in the role of mezz’ala, while (Hans) Nicolussi and Mavidi did well.

“I needed to see the condition of Juan Cuadrado, who is unfortunately off the Champions League squad list, and also Dybala, whose fitness levels weren’t at their best.

"The more he plays, the better shape he gets into. He rediscovered some enthusiasm today and it wasn’t easy for him psychologically of late to have only 20 minutes or so and then get hurt again.

“At a big club, you must fight every day to earn your space in the team and I am very happy with what he did today. It’s a good sign for Tuesday, as we must be ready and prepare for the potential of extra time too."

It was 19-year-old, on-form striker Kean who caught the eye again when he put Juve in front with an instinctive finish after 29 minutes.

However, SPAL were rewarded for an impressive start to the second half when Bonifazi rose to head in his team’s equaliser from a corner.

The hosts continued to play on the front foot and were rewarded with 15 minutes remaining when Floccari raced on to a loose ball in the area and swept a finish into the corner.

It was only SPAL’s second ever win against Juventus but marked their third successive home victory after they beat Roma and Lazio.

Juventus title celebrations put on ice after shock defeat to SPAL

Cristiano Ronaldo produced yet another quality goal to add to his collection and help Juventus to a 1-1 draw at Ajax Amsterdam in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie on Wednesday.

Juventus took the lead on the stroke of halftime as Portuguese forward Ronaldo began an attacking move inside his own half before sprinting downfield and diving to head in a clever chip from Joao Cancelo.

"Ronaldo proved again he is from a different level, the timing of his player is so different from the others," said an admiring Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri.

Ajax equalised 30 seconds into the second half after Cancelo lost control of the ball to allow David Neres to run down the left wing, cut inside and curl the ball past Juve goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

The result leaves the Serie A side in a strong position to advance to the semi-finals in next week's return leg in Turin. However, they will be mindful of Ajax's 4-1 away win over Real Madrid in the last round that eliminated the holders 5-3 on aggregate.

Hakim Ziyech had several efforts at goal in a lively start for the youthful Dutch team, who have come through the pre-group phase qualifying round to reach the last eight.

Donny van de Beek scraped the outside of the upright with a 25th-minute effort from close range after opening up space for himself in the penalty area in Ajax's best chance of the first half.

But Juventus, with the 34-year-old Ronaldo central to their attacks, worked their way into the contest and came close themselves when the forward set up Federico Bernardeschi to turn and shoot in the 37th minute. But he was just off target.

Ronaldo, who scored a hat-trick in the previous round against Atletico Madrid, then scored a 125th Champions League goal with the last move of the first half.

"He is a predator in the box. He waited for a gap and then sprinted past two players," conceded Ajax's teenage captain Matthijs de Ligt.

Penalty claim

After equalising, Ajax then dominated possession but were guilty of over-elaborate passing and were also fortunate not to have given away a penalty when defender Nicolas Tagliafico was tugging on the jersey of Juventus captain Mario Mandzukic.

Spanish referee Carlos del Cerro Grande paused briefly in the 53rd minute to presumably hear from the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) but resumed play before TV replays showed that Juventus had been denied a decent claim.

Tagliafico will miss the second leg next Tuesday after being booked late in the first half.

Juve hit the upright in the closing stages through substitute Douglas Costa although Ajax could have had the last say as Dusan Tadic missed a good chance in stoppage time.

"A 1-1 score is not what we had hoped for but we are still well in," said Ajax coach Erik ten Hag. "We had a lot of patient possession and we created one or two good chances."

More than 100 Juventus supporters were detained by Dutch police before the match while home fans were also arrested as a water cannon was used outside the ground.

Champions League: Ronaldo scores as Juventus held to a draw at Ajax

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri hailed star striker Cristiano Ronaldo as being in a class of his own after he bagged a precious away goal in their <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/champions-league-ronaldo-scores-as-juventus-held-to-a-draw-at-ajax-209401">1-1 Champions League quarter-final draw</a> at Ajax on Wednesday.&nbsp;

Ronaldo put Juventus in front on the stroke of half-time with a diving header to take his record goal tally in the competition to 125, only for Brazilian&nbsp;winger David Neres to level almost immediately after half-time to put the tie on a knife-edge ahead of next week's return leg in Turin.&nbsp;

"Ronaldo showed that he is on a different level. His timing and movement is different to everyone else's, there's nothing you can do about it," Allegri told Sky Sport Italia.&nbsp;

"He is a player who just has a different technique than the others."

Ajax piled on the pressure at the Johan Cruyff Arena, going close on a number of occasions before Douglas Costa nearly delivered a late sucker punch for Juve when he struck the woodwork.

Their spectacular comeback from a 2-1 first-leg home defeat to Real Madrid with a thumping 4-1 win at the Santiago Bernabeu in the previous round showed that the tie is far from over.

"It's a good result because we scored away from home, the tie is still open," added Allegri, who is looking to guide Juve to their first Champions League since 1996, when they beat Ajax in Rome.

"We were good defensively, the team was nice and compact, there is good reason to think we can get to the semi-finals.

"We are not worried, we have great respect for Ajax but you have to be ready.

"One each is better than 0-0, in Turin we will have to play to win."

Cristiano Ronaldo on another level, says Juve's coach Massimiliano Allegri

Cristiano Ronaldo has been passed fit to play for Juventus in their Champions League quarter-final first leg at Ajax Amsterdam on Wednesday, coach Massimiliano Allegri has told Sky Italia.&nbsp;

Ronaldo was rested by the Turin club after his sensational hat-trick against Atletico Madrid in the last round of the Champions League on March 12, but picked up a thigh strain while on international duty with Portugal last month.&nbsp;

Although Juve will be without defender Giorgio Chiellini and midfielder Emre Can, the return of Ronaldo will be a massive boost as they seek to end their 23-year wait to lift the Champions League trophy.

The 34-year-old is the all-time top scorer in Europe’s elite club competition and almost single-handedly dragged Juve into the last eight with his treble against Atletico in the last 16 after the Italians trailed 2-0 from the first leg.

"Unless something happens, Ronaldo will play," Allegri said. "It’s a pity not to have Chiellini and Emre Can, but the others are fine.

"Having Douglas Costa back is important, (Paulo) Dybala had a good training session this morning. (Daniele) Rugani will play at centre-back, it’s an important opportunity for him and we’re happy.

"The team is in good shape, we had some important days in training, as we can lay the foundations of qualification for the next round and then this weekend the opportunity to win the Scudetto (Serie A title) in Ferrara against SPAL."

After having been given a scare by Atletico in the last round, Allegri said his side will be more offensive in Amsterdam to ensure they get an away goal.

"Tomorrow we must play a more attacking and courageous game than with Atletico Madrid, because we cannot think of leaving here without a goal," he said.

"It’s not often that we see a turnaround of the likes we had against Atleti.

"Ajax knocked Real Madrid out, but also gave Bayern Munich problems in the group stage. It’s the first game of two and we’ll see what happens."

Ajax thrashed Real 4-1 away to reach the quaerter-finals 5-3 on aggregate having finished second in Group E behind Bayern who they held 1-1 in Munich before a 3-3 draw in Amsterdam.

Cristiano Ronaldo fit for Juventus clash with Ajax: Massimiliano Allegri

Massimiliano Allegri, the head coach of Juventus said condemned racism but said his players must respect their opponents.&nbsp;

In a media interaction, Allegri said, "Racism is never justifiable and idiots should stay away from the stadium, but regarding the attacks on Leonardo Bonucci, he expressed himself badly after the match, he was still in a competitive trance."&nbsp;

Allegri's comments came following a racist incident involving striker Moise Kean during Juventus' 2-0 win at Cagliari in Serie A on Tuesday.&nbsp;

Kean had celebrated in front of the Cagliari fans with his arms outstretched after scoring in the 85th minute, having been insulted by them for most of the match after being booked for simulation in the 20th minute.&nbsp;

Allegri said, "Every player must behave well on the pitch, whether it is (Moise) Kean or (Daniele) Rugani, they need to respect their opponents and their fans. That is the most important thing, then racism is a different thing, for one last time I repeat that racism is never justifiable, it must be punished and fought."&nbsp;

Italy coach Roberto Mancini has described the racist abuse suffered by <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/yaya-toure-and-raheem-sterling-blast-juventus-over-moise-kean-abuse-207888">Juventus forward Moise Kean</a> in a Serie A match against Cagliari as intolerable and said it was time to put a stop to such incidents.&nbsp;

Kean, who had been jeered throughout the game, stood in front of the Cagliari fans behind the goal and opened his arms after scoring Juve's second goal in a 2-0 win on Tuesday.&nbsp;

In response, Cagliari's supporters made the noise which is described in Italy as "buu" and is regarded as a racist insult.&nbsp;

"The behaviour towards Kean was intolerable, but it happens often," Mancini said during an event in Rome. "The racist 'buu' has to be stigmatised, it can't go on. It needs action and it needs to be tough.&nbsp;

"The problems are those related to racism and that's where you have to start doing something."&nbsp;

Mancini disagreed with suggestions that 19-year-old Kean, who scored in both of Italy's Euro 2020 qualifiers he played in last month, brought it on himself with his defiant celebration.&nbsp;

"Kean's a golden lad," said Mancini. "Maybe next time he won't do it. I think he was distressed."&nbsp;

Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci was among those to say that Kean was partly to blame for the incident although he later backtracked and said he was too hasty with his comments.&nbsp;

"It seems that Bonucci's words were misunderstood and he later explained that himself," said Mancini.&nbsp;

Juventus will have a first shot at clinching an eighth successive Serie A title at the weekend although they will need help from the only team to have beaten them in the league this season.&nbsp;

Second-placed Napoli's shock defeat at Empoli on Wednesday has left the Turin side a massive 18 points clear, meaning it is time to get the calculators out almost two months before the end of the season.

In one of the most lop-sided championships in history, Juventus will clinch the title if they beat AC Milan at home on Saturday and then Napoli lose at home on Sunday to Genoa, who ended Juve's hopes of an unbeaten league season three weeks ago.

That combination would leave Massimiliano Allegri's side 21 points clear with seven games each to play and a better head-to-head record over Napoli.

They would also remain on course to break their own Serie A record of 102 points set in 2013-14, the last season before Antonio Conte left and was replaced by current coach Allegri.

Helped by the signing of five times World Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo, Juventus have been utterly dominant this season, winning 26 of their 30 matches, drawing three and losing one.

They have the best attack and defence with 62 goals for and 19 conceded although they have been ruthless rather than sparkling.

Twelve of their wins have been by one-goal margins, nine by two goals and five by three goals and they have only once scored more than three goals in a league game.

There have been a handful of impressive comebacks and dramatic wins but mostly it has been a case of getting the job done as efficiently as possible and leaving enough energy for their main aim, which is winning the Champions League.

Ronaldo will miss the Milan game with a thigh injury and is doubtful for the Champions League quarter-final first leg away to Ajax Amsterdam on Wednesday.

However, Allegri said after the 2-0 win to Cagliari on Tuesday that their injury crisis was easing with Mario Mandzukic available and Leonardo Spinazzola, Douglas Costa and Paulo Dybala all close to returning.

The game will be a severe test for Gennaro Gattuso's AC Milan who are fourth, the lowest of the Champions League slots, but have followed a run of five league wins in a row by taking only one point out of their last three matches.

"The strength that we’ve had for three or four months was missing," said Gattuso after Tuesday's 1-1 draw at home to lowly Udinese.

"We gave the feeling of fragility. We must remain calm. We know that we’re going through a tough spell and we must get out of it."

Gattuso said his team were going through one of those phases where the ball feels heavier.

"When you win five matches but then face some difficulties, the ball starts to weigh heavily," he said. "Things that happen that should be prevented and this is the moment we’re in"

Juventus could clinch Serie A title with seven games left

Yaya Toure responded with fury and Raheem Sterling with mockery after manager Massimiliano Allegri and teammates said Juventus youngster Moise Kean shared the blame for racist abuse by Cagliari fans.

Toure, who was speaking at UEFA's Equal Game conference at Wembley, said he hoped the Italian football authorities would respond in a determined fashion to the chants and to Allegri's lukewarm defence of his player.

Kean, 19, along with team-mates Blaise Matuidi and Alex Sandro, was subjected to monkey noises during the match on Tuesday.

Kean, an Italian international, reacted by celebrating with his hands outstretched in front of the Cagliari fans after scoring his side's second in the 2-0 victory.

Allegri and fellow goalscorer Leonardo&nbsp;Bonucci&nbsp;both said Kean had not helped himself.

"He is a young man and he has to learn, but certain things from the crowd also shouldn't be heard," said Allegri.

Bonucci&nbsp;said the blame was "50-50".

England international Sterling, who also reacted by celebrating in front of abusive home fans after scoring for England away to Montenegro on March 25, took to Instagram to ridicule&nbsp;Bonucci.

"The blame is 50-50 @bonuccileo19," Sterling posted on his story alongside a number of laughing and applause emojis.

"All you can do now is laugh."

Kean defended his actions as "the best way to respond to racism".&nbsp;

Toure, the former Ivory Coast captain, said Allegri should have offered his full support to Kean. &nbsp;

"I was shocked when I saw that happen and then the manager saying Kean shouldn't have done that," said Toure.

"I want to see what the Italian FA is going to do about it. I want to see a response."

'Long way to go'

Jason Roberts, the former Premier League striker who is CONCACAF director of development, said he was shocked at the response of some of Kean's team-mates.

"I think it's deeply troubling when you see a young player having to endure what was thrown at him," said Roberts.

"What was stark was the reaction of some opposition players and his team-mates, as if he had done something wrong. Who else in the workplace would have to endure that?"

Roberts, who was an international for Grenada, said players should not feel they had to take the lead because administrators were not doing enough.

"I don't think we are doing enough and the players are having to take the lead," he said.

"For that to be the case in 2019 shows we have a long way to go."

The negative comments by Allegri and&nbsp;Bonucci&nbsp;to Kean's actions contrasts to the praise showered on Sterling.

Yaya Toure and Raheem Sterling blast Juventus over Moise Kean abuse

Teenager Moise Kean scored three minutes after coming on as a substitute to give Juventus a 1-0 win over lowly Empoli after the runaway Serie A leaders had been jeered off at halftime on Saturday.

The 19-year-old continued an impressive run of form which has seen him score three goals in five Serie A appearances this season and in both of Italy's Euro 2020 qualifiers this month, against Finland and Liechtenstein.

Juventus, missing Cristiano Ronaldo after he suffered a thigh injury in Portugal's 1-1 draw with Serbia on Monday and Paulo Dybala after he pulled up during the warm-up, struggled to break down the visitors until Kean struck in the 72nd minute. Giorgio Chiellini played a long ball out of his own half and Mario Mandzukic headed it into the path of Kean who fired past Bartlomiej Dragowski.

Juventus have 78 points, 18 clear of second-placed Napoli who visit AS Roma on Sunday. Empoli are 17th with 25 points, one point and one place above the relegation zone.

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri tried to keep Kean's feet firmly on the ground.

"Kean has quality but he has to improve in lots of areas and his willingness to make sacrifices will make the difference," he said. "So many players have lost their way along the road."

He added that Kean was not ready to start the match after his week with the national team.

"He scored two goals for Italy in as many games and having all that attention uses up a lot of energy both physically and mentally," he said. "He returned from the international break and looked like he barely knew where he was."

Empoli had enjoyed the better of the first half, angering the home crowd, and Rade Krunic was twice close to giving them a shock lead.

"The crowd were right because we didn't play well," said Allegri, referring to the fans' reaction.

Juventus, who lost their unbeaten league record in their previous outing when they were beaten 2-0 at Genoa, showed more signs of life after halftime as Federico Bernardeschi crashed an acrobatic volley against the crossbar.

Kean's entrance in the 69th minute got the biggest cheer of the evening up to that point and he could have had a second goal when he got clear of the Empoli defence but was foiled by Dragowski.

Teenager Moise Kean strikes again to break down stubborn Empoli

Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo was spotted in Madrid with his girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez, not for his former club Real Madrid but to open a hair transplant clinic.

Ronaldo, who left Madrid in the summer, returned to the Spanish city to inaugurate the six-storey hair transplant clinic called Isparya.

Lately, Ronaldo said, "In addition to football, I am passionate about health, technology and research, they are areas which I wanted to invest in."&nbsp;&nbsp;

The centre will be managed by his long-term girlfriend Rodriguez.

The pair was spotted in a chauffeur-driven car when they prepared to open the doors to the centre.

As per the reports, the centre will employ over 150 professionals. The centre has the capacity to perform 18 hair transplants a day.

The Portuguese football player has reportedly invested €1 million into his latest venture and it is expected to add a further €25 million over the next three to four years.

Lately, Ronaldo said, "In addition to football, I am passionate about health, technology and research, they are areas which I wanted to invest in." The centre will be managed by his long-term girlfriend Rodriguez. Cristiano Ronaldo faces disciplinary hearing over inappropriate goal celebration

Juventus fell to their first Serie A defeat of the season on Sunday as Genoa ran out 2-0 winners days after the Turin club's Champions League heroics against Atletico Madrid.

Stefano Sturaro, who joined Genoa on loan from Juventus in January before the deal was made permanent, put the home side in front in the second half before fellow substitute Goran Pandev secured the shock result with 10 minutes remaining.

Cristiano Ronaldo inspired a remarkable European comeback for the Italian champions on Tuesday when he scored a hat-trick to overturn a 2-0 first-leg defeat against Atletico and send his side through to the quarter-finals with a 3-2 aggregate win.

However, the Portuguese was left out of the matchday squad for the trip to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris and Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri was left frustrated as Genoa took points off his side for the second time this season, having drawn 1-1 in Turin in October.

“I expected a different Juventus," Allegri told Italian broadcasters.

"We did not put in a good performance, we made some mistakes and then this goal came out of nowhere.

“Much like the Coppa Italia defeat to Atalanta, we picked the right game to lose, because it’s just before the break for international duty, so we have time to unplug and rest.

“I am actually happy for Stefano, because if anyone had to score against us, I’m glad it was Sturaro. He’s a lovely guy and suffered so much, out of action for practically a year with that tendon injury, so he deserves it.”

Juve had dropped points just three times this season going into the game, with draws against Genoa, Atalanta and Parma, while they were unbeaten overall in the top-flight for the last 31 rounds, since losing 1-0 to Napoli on 22 April 2018.

However, the hosts started the brighter as Christian Kouame forced a good save from former Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin before Cesare Prandelli's side were awarded a penalty for handball, only for a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review to overturn the decision.

Juventus thought they had gone in front after the break when Paulo Dybala swept home a finish, but VAR chalked the goal off for an offside in the build-up.

Sturaro then curled a finish into the corner against his parent club just minutes after coming on, before Pandev made sure of the three points with a powerful finish.

Despite the result, Juventus remain 18 points clear of second-placed Napoli at the summit of the table, while Genoa climbed above Sassuolo into 12th place on 33 points.

Juventus suffer first league defeat of the season at Genoa

David Beckham has less than a year before his new Major League football team, Inter Miami, takes the field and is finally turning his focus to bringing in players with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo on his mind.

When Beckham announced he would create an MLS franchise in Miami, five years ago, there was speculation that he would look to entice some of the biggest names in the game with talk of Messi or Ronaldo possibly ending their careers in Florida.

But, although Juventus forward Ronaldo is 34 and Barcelona's Messi will be 32 in June, former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder Beckham knows it will be tough to get them to move - even if he has not given up on the prospect.

"Everyone has their wish list - everyone does! But if you look at the way Leo and Cristiano are still playing, even at what you might think is the later stage of their careers, I don't see it ending for them," he told a small group of reporters.

"They’re playing at such a high level that it’s hard to see them leaving the clubs they are at. But we will see. You never know what can happen in football."

Beckham, who played for MLS side LA Galaxy later in his career, and his small staff are beginning the process of identifying players and seeking to bring them in for the 2020 season.

"As an organisation, as a club, we are starting to look at players, and possibilities, at what is possible. We’ve got a great team here and we’ll start piecing the things together. But we have to do that quick because it’s only a year away," he said.

Beckham's contacts in the game will surely help him attract talent and he also needs to find a manager and coaching staff for his club.

Among those the 43-year-old former England captain has turned to for advice about his new role as an owner is former Manchester United chief executive David Gill.

"I’ve been speaking to people over that time. People like David Gill, who is someone who has a huge amount of experience at Manchester United, asking him about the job he did there," he said.

"But there are also other clubs and football people I’ve been around over my career and been able to have and gain experience from. I also have some great partners here in Miami, who understand the U.S market and the MLS.

"It’s a different world from the European leagues but it’s catching up really quickly and the excitement is there."

SALFORD CONNECTION

As well as getting his club off the ground, including negotiating a deal for a training complex and stadium in Fort Lauderdale [nL1N2111IC], Beckham has also joined his fellow 'Class of 92' United alumni including Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville, in taking a ten percent ownership stake in National League (fifth tier) English club Salford City.

The former midfielder says it is possible that the two clubs will co-operate, with academy and player development two areas that could see joint work.

"Who knows? With Salford the hard work has been done over the last few years, with bringing the club up to the level they’ve got to now. The lads have done such a great job and for myself to be part of that now is great," he said.

"There could be a crossover. The academy system is such an important part of it. Everybody in Europe knows how important that system is.

"To have an academy system that utilises the talent that runs through Miami is such important part, not just of our organisation but the entire MLS and the future of the sport in general."

Lionel Messi hails Ronaldo's 'magical' night for Juventus after Barcelona win

<a href="http://www.wionews.com/sports/dont-want-to-compare-real-madrid-with-juventus-says-cristiano-ronaldo-172952">Ronaldo blasted home</a> the decisive goal from a penalty with four minutes left to seal a 3-2 overall triumph having made the breakthrough in the 27th minute and levelled the aggregate score three minutes after halftime with another towering header.

It was his eighth hat-trick in the Champions League, pulling him level with Barcelona's Lionel Messi, and took the Portugal international's tally in his favourite club competition, where he is the all-time leading scorer, to 124.

The former Real Madrid player, aiming to win the Champions League for the sixth time with his third different club, having also lifted the trophy with Manchester United, took his tally against Atletico to 25 goals in 33 matches in all competitions.

"This was why Juventus brought me here, to help do things that they have never done before," said Ronaldo, now 34. "This is the mentality you need to win in the Champions League."

Shell-shocked Atletico failed to muster a shot on target as they paid the price for an ultra-cautious approach by defensive-minded coach Diego Simeone in the last-16 second leg tie.

"Simply an epic match," said Juve's Giorgio Chiellini. "The best way to celebrate my 500th appearance for the club."

Defender Chiellini had the ball in the visitors' net after just four minutes following a goalmouth scramble but it was disallowed for foul by Ronaldo on goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

The Serie A side bombarded the Atletico area with crosses but made little headway against a packed defence until Federico Bernardeschi switched to the left and floated a cross to the far post where Ronaldo outjumped Juanfran to head in.

With Atletico making little effort to look for the away goal that could have changed the complexion of the tie, Juventus continued to press forward.

Bernardeschi curled a free kick over the crossbar and also produced an ambitious bicycle kick which flew wide before Chiellini had a header tipped over by Oblak.

Atletico's first real chance fell to on-loan striker Alvaro Morata who got between two defenders to meet Koke's cross from the right only to head over.

Juve went straight back on the attack after the break and quickly levelled the aggregate score at 2-2.

Ronaldo met Joao Cancelo's cross with another powerful header and although Oblak clawed the ball away, goal line technology showed that it had crossed the line by centimetres and the referee signalled a goal.

Atletico brought on Vitolo and Angel Correa in an attempt to add more bite to their attack but to no avail.

With extra-time looming, Bernardeschi powered into the area and was pushed in the back by Correa, leaving Ronaldo to blast home the penalty to the delight of the Juve supporters.

Champions League: Cristiano Ronaldo's hat-trick against Atletico Madrid powers Juventus into quarter-finals

Juventus shares soared more than 20 per cent on Wednesday after Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick to overturn a two-goal deficit and defeat Atletico Madrid in a key Champions League match.

The victory on Tuesday night put the Turin-based club through to the quarterfinals of the competition, qualifying the Italian champions for about 10.5 million euros ($11.9 million) in additional payments.

The cash would be on top of the 9.5 million euros the Italian club received for reaching the last 16.

At 0940 GMT, the shares were up 16 per cent topping the leader board on the Milan bourse after hitting their highest since late January in early trading. The shares were on track for their best day since October 2013.

"Considering the amount they gain by qualifying for the next round against the odds, it is quite fair," said a trader.

"Plus looking forward, the only obstacle for them might be Barcelona (if they do qualify) or possibly Man City, the other clubs aren't that great."

Juventus are controlled by Exor, the investment holding of Italy's Agnelli family, which owns nearly 64 per cent of the soccer team.

English clubs Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have reached the last eight of the Champions League, along with Ajax Amsterdam and Porto.

The winners of Wednesday night's ties between Barcelona and Olympique Lyonnais, and Bayern Munich and Liverpool will complete the line-up. The draw for the quarter-finals of the Champions League takes place on Friday. ($1 = 0.8857 euros)
