Jammu and Kashmir: Security heightened ahead of second phase of polling

In a fresh twist in the political arena of Jammu and Kashmir, Engineer Rashid's Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) has forged an alliance with the Jamaat-e-Islami (JEI) candidates for the upcoming assembly elections. National Conference leaders allege that these alliances are at the behest of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which wants to divide the vote in the valley.

The AIP-JEI coalition said their strategic alliance will champion the cause of the people of J&K. While Jamaat is fighting electoral politics after four long decades, the AIP is also fielding candidates across the valley for the first time.

A joint meeting of the AIP delegation was led by MP Rashid while the JEI delegation was led by Ghulam Qadir Wani. Following deliberations, it was agreed that AIP would support JEI-backed candidates in Kulgam and Pulwama.

It is a Single Window portal for Film Shooting Permissions and Subsidies.

J&K Film Policy 2024 will attract, support and facilitate regional, national and international film production in the UT. This film-friendly and pragmatic policy will ensure that heaven on earth is truly a heaven for filmmakers: Single Window portal to ensure efficient handling of intricate formalities and seamless release of subsidies: The Government’s new initiatives will have a strong multiplier effect and play a pivotal role in developing J&K as a global Film production hub.

''The J & K administration is following a model to build film-shooting infrastructure on the lines of European countries so that J&K becomes a global film destination soon. In the last five years, we have succeeded in reviving the Cinema culture in J&K. We had rolled a film policy in 2021, but there were some gaps and loopholes. Today, we have launched the New Film Policy 2024 where all previous gaps have been filled. The single window clearance is a great way of attracting filmmakers. The locals get a lot of chances if films are shot in these locations, and I see a lot of talent here. This will be beneficial for the talent, '' said Madhur Bhandarkar, Filmmaker.

J&K Film Conclave’ offers a platform for collaboration, idea exchange, and showcasing talent. The initiative aspires to build a sustainable and thriving film ecosystem in Jammu Kashmir. ''I am very happy. This is one of my dreams. Any activity around films is my dream. I started the Kashmir World Film Festival, and I have been fighting for the opening of cinema halls in Kashmir. But one is not enough but we want more. We also want film-makers from across India and abroad to come and shoot here. It is an open studio, and every place is great to shoot. There is one window permission for filmmakers and its great,'' said Mushtaq Ali Khan Festival Director of Kashmir Film Festival and Filmmaker.

India is witnessing a rise in terror activities as well as infiltration bids along the Line of Control (LoC) at international border in Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces have found that terror outfits are now choosing the age-old traditional infiltration routes.

J&K: Rise in terror activities & infiltration attempts, new challenges pose for Indian Armed Forces

Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a spike in terror attacks in recent weeks and during these operations' security forces have recovered arms and ammunition along with communication devices from various parts of the Union Territory. Security forces have recently recovered Chinese-made telecommunication equipment from the terrorists in Jammu Kashmir. These devices are meant for the Pakistan Army but are being recovered from the terror groups in Jammu Kashmir.

In recent recoveries made by the security forces, highly encrypted Chinese telecom gear known as "Ultra Set" mostly used by the Pakistan Army was recovered from the terrorists. Jammu and Kashmir Police's DGP recently said that there are around 70-80 foreign terrorists active in the Union Territory and most of them had recently infiltrated. This clearly indicates that these terror groups are hand in glove with the Pakistan Army.

The Chinese equipment has been often recovered by the security forces in the Kashmir Valley from the terrorists active in Jammu and Kashmir. In a recent hideout bust in North Kashmir, Sources in the security forces said that they had recovered the 'Ultra Set' handsets from the operation site while after the recent attacks in Jammu, the forces also recovered it from the terrorists in the area.

These Chinese-made "Ultra Set" handsets, mostly combine cell-phone capabilities with specialised radio equipment that does not rely on traditional mobile technologies like Global System for Mobile (GSM) or Code-Division Multiple Access (CDMA). "Ultra Set" handsets work on radio waves for message transmission and reception, with each "Ultra Set" linked to a control station located across the border. Sources say that Chinese satellites are used to carry these messages which are compressed to bytes from the handset to the master server in Pakistan for its onward transmission.

Recovery of this equipment from the terror groups also indicates the support that the Chinese government is providing to Pakistan, which eventually lands up in the hands of these terror groups. This also comes in the backdrop of China Pakistan meeting regarding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The 3rd round of the Joint Consultative Mechanism (JCM) of Political Parties on CPEC and the Pakistan-China Political Parties Forum was held in Islamabad. In the meeting, Both China and Pakistan reaffirmed the salience of CPEC and pledged to make joint efforts for its up-gradation and for further strengthening the Pakistan-China All-weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
