Japan has slammed the first-ever incursion of a Chinese aircraft into its airspace by calling it "unacceptable" and a&nbsp;"serious violation" of its sovereignty.&nbsp;

The incursion took place on Monday (Aug 26) for a two-minute period around 11:29 am (0229 GMT) near the uninhabited Danjo Islands, which prompted the Japanese authorities to scramble its fighter jets in the region.&nbsp;

“The violation of our country's airspace by Chinese military aircraft is not only a serious violation of our country's sovereignty, but also a threat to our safety, and we consider it utterly unacceptable,” Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi told a news conference.

The Danjo Islands are a group of&nbsp;small islets, located&nbsp;in the East China Sea off Japan's southern Nagasaki region, and are not disputed territory.

“We understand that this is the first confirmed and announced airspace incursion by a Chinese military aircraft since we started the anti-airspace incursion measures," he added.

Tokyo said China's military activities in recent years near its territory had started to increase, prompting the government to keep an even closer eye.&nbsp;

“The government will continue to watch China's military activities with keen interest, and will take all possible measures to ensure vigilant surveillance and prevent airspace violations."

According to experts, China may have been probing Japan's air defence network and seeking intelligence as Tokyo extends&nbsp;its cooperation with the US and other countries in the volatile region.&nbsp;

A Japanese news anchor has lost her job and is facing intense backlash on social media after uploading a post in which she spoke about how difficult it is to "endure" the body odour of men and suggested that they need to shower more.

Taking to social media platform X on August 8, where she has around 13,000 followers, she raised her concern regarding men’s hygiene in summer, while asking them to take showers and use deodorant.&nbsp;

“I’m really sorry if there’s a personal situation, but the smell of men in the summer or the body odour of unsanitary people is so uncomfortable,” said the anchor.

Some of the people said that the post of Kawaguchi was specifically targeting men and accused her of gender discrimination.

“Only blaming men is infuriating and undoubtedly discrimination. Women, especially older women, can have body odour too. I’m really uncomfortable with this,” wrote a male netizen.

Some even called her a “materialistic woman out of touch with the struggles of ordinary people.”

<h2>Anchor apologises for the comment, removes the post</h2>

After the controversy broke out, the anchor issued a public apology and pulled down the post on August 11.

“This time, because of my careless remarks, many people were upset and hurt. I will deeply reflect on this. In the future, I will work hard not to hurt anyone with my remarks. I am really sorry," said the anchor.

However, her agency, Voice, terminated her contract, while accusing her of “defamation of the honour of the opposite sex”.

The company which hired Kawaguchi as a lecturer also cancelled her contract.

However, the&nbsp;terminations of her two contracts were criticised by Japanese netizens, who called it “too extreme”. This also started a debate on whether what she said was right or wrong.

"The increase in the core CPI reflected a phase-out of government subsidies to curb household utility bills, and with that factor excluded, the overall inflation has been slowing," said Masato Koike, senior economist at Sompo Institute Plus.

Relief on utility bills was restored and the import costs are now being driven down by the recent rebound of the yen, so the core CPI growth "is likely to slow down hereafter," he said.

It will, henceforth, be the inflation data instrumental in further decisions on rate hikes by the BOJ. It surprised markets last July by raising interest rates to a 15-year high and signalled its readiness to further hike the cost of borrowing amid growing prospects of inflation durably reaching its 2 per cent target.

It was the hawkish tone of the BOJ that set the battered yen soaring and sent Tokyo stocks plunging in their biggest single-day rout since 1987's Black Monday sell-off. Markets have since stabilised.

BOJ Governor Kazuo Ueda was summoned on Friday to explain the BOJ's decision in July to raise interest rates, and he reaffirmed his resolve to raise them again if inflation remained on track to hit the 2 per cent target sustainably.

He also mentioned that the central bank would "be highly vigilant to market developments for the time being" as the financial markets remained unstable.

"There are still some people who visit the spot, but we no longer see crowds suddenly rushing into the street. We believe the measure has been effective," the official added.

The town had spent 1.3 million yen (€7,700) on the installation of the black mesh net and additional fencing along the sidewalk.

Initially, tourists did not seem to respect the barriers, as small holes were found in the screen, which were being used to capture photos. Within a week of its installation, officials had discovered around 10 such holes, all at eye level and perfectly sized to fit a camera lens.

Despite these challenges, officials report that the screen has helped reduce congestion in the area.
