Jaishankar said, "In 1984 there was a hijacking", and continued explaining how as a young officer, he was part of the team tasked with handling the situation.&nbsp;

The EAM further explained how he was part of the team tasked with handling the situation, adding that as a son, he faced the surreal situation of discovering that his father was one of the passengers on the hijacked flight.&nbsp;

"I rang up my mother, actually, to tell her, 'Look, I can't come. There's a hijacking,'" he recalled.&nbsp;

"And then I discovered, my father was on the flight," he said, speaking of his father, K. Subrahmanyam, a senior IAS officer and a well-known commentator on strategic issues.

The flight, travelling from New Delhi to Srinagar was hijacked mid-air and was taken to Dubai. Later, the crisis ended&nbsp;with all passengers, including Jaishankar's father, released unharmed.&nbsp;

On the 39th anniversary of the devastating bombing of Air India Flight 182, known as the 'Kanishka' incident, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar paid tribute to the 329 victims and issued a stern warning that terrorism "should never be tolerated."

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Jaishankar said, "Today marks the 39th anniversary of one of the worst acts of terrorism in history. Pay my homage to the memory of the 329 victims of AI 182 'Kanishka' who were killed this day in 1985. My thoughts are with their families. The Kanishka bombing, which occurred on June 23, 1985, was a devastating act of aviation terrorism that claimed the lives of 268 Canadian citizens, mostly of Indian origin, along with 24 Indians and 27 British citizens.

The plane, a Boeing 747-237B, was en route from Montreal to London when a bomb concealed in a suitcase exploded, causing the aircraft to break apart over the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Ireland.

<h2>'Cowardly act of terror'</h2>

The incident was described by Indian-origin Canadian Member of Parliament Chandra Arya&nbsp;as a "cowardly act of terror, carried out by Canada-based Khalistani terrorists."&nbsp;

Indian National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan led the second session of the India-US initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) in New Delhi on Monday (June 17).

The iCET, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden during the Quad summit in Tokyo on May 24, 2022, aims to deepen strategic cooperation in sectors like space, AI, semiconductors, advanced telecommunications, biotechnology, clean energy and&nbsp;quantum technology.&nbsp;

Both sides underscored their "commitment to orienting our cooperation around breakthrough achievements in priority critical and emerging technology areas, by focusing our efforts on co-production, co-development, and research and development (R&amp;D) opportunities."&nbsp;

This second iCET meeting, being held over June 17 and 18, builds on the progress made since the first session in January 2023 in the United States, a crucial step forward in the strategic collaboration between the two countries.

Prime Minister Modi also met with Sullivan and expressed India's commitment to strengthening ties with the US for "global good".

The JDS MP from Hassan has been absconding after being allegedly accused of sexual harassment by a woman who worked in his household. Reportedly, he fled to Germany in April.

He is facing a probe by a Special Investigative Team (SIT) constituted by the Karnataka government over the serious allegations levelled against him.

"To impound a passport is governed by an act called the Passport Act. We need a judicial court or a police request to do so. The MEA got this request from Karnataka only on May 21," said Jaishankar in a chat with news agency ANI.

He further stated that the government had immediately acted upon receiving the request and that the process had been initiated.

"We immediately acted on it. On 23rd of May... we have to follow a certain procedure and the procedure is initiated," he added.

Reacting to the Congress government's accusations alleging that the BJP - which is in an electoral alliance with JD (S) in Karnataka- was shielding Revanna, Jaishankar said, "They did not take the first step... I mean, he's not the first case where impounding a passport is taking place."

"I also read that another arrest has been made...We have long maintained that if any event or violence in Canada has any evidence or information that is relevant to be investigated in India, we are open to investigating it. To date, we have never received anything specific or worthy of being investigated by our investigative agencies...," Jaishankar said.

Karan Brar (22), Kamalpreet Singh (22) and 28-year-old Karanpreet Singh&nbsp;were detained&nbsp;by authorities. All three were living in Edmonton and have&nbsp;been charged&nbsp;with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Today, May 11, 26 years ago, India conducted Shakti series of nuclear tests at Pokhran, which is considered to be a significant moment for the country's nuclear capability in the field of national security and clean energy.

India tested five of its nuclear weapon designs on May 11 and 13 in the year 1998 respectively at the Pokhran range in Rajasthan desert, out of which, the three detonations happened all at once at 15:45 IST on May 11.

These weapons included a 45 kt thermonuclear device, a 15 kt fission device and a 0.2 kt sub-kiloton (i.e. less than 1 kiloton) device.&nbsp;

The other two devices that detonated on May 13 at the same time were also in the sub-kiloton range - 0.5 and 0.3 kt.
