In addition to Ardah, an Islamic Jihad member and the alleged mastermind of the escape, they include Zakaria Zubeidi who headed the Fatah armed wing.

The other four are Ayham Kamamji, Munadel Infeiat, Yaqub Qadri and Mohammad Ardah.

Lawyers for two of the prisoners said they had begun to dig the tunnel in December.

A few hours later the police revealed that two more jail breakers have been caught, leaving only two on the run now. "Two more prisoners who escaped were captured a short time ago... while they were hiding in a parking lot for trucks," the police said.

The prisoners of a Lebanon jail tried to break out of the detention centre on Saturday, leaving five of the fleeing prisoners dead.

Lebanon's&nbsp;Internal Security Forces (ISF) reported in an official statement that more than 60 detainees tried to break out of the detention centre on Saturday. Five of the prisoners were declared dead after their car rammed into a tree.

A total of 69 prisoners tried to flee the facility which is located near the capital city Beirut and is counted as a&nbsp;part of Baabda district prison. This facility mainly holds the pre-trial detainees.

The jailbreak has come a few months after&nbsp;Amnesty International reported riots inside the Lebanese jails, after which the families of the prisoners had organised sit-in protests demanding the release of prisoners fearing a wide spread of the novel coronavirus vaccine. As per the reports, the Lebanese government had released a few prisoners who needed care and had also taken numerous other measures guaranteeing health and safety of the detainees.

Along with other prisoners, he then climbed a 2.5-metre (eight-feet) wall, but was recaptured in West Java three days later.

Although rare by foreigners, jailbreaks are common in Indonesia, where most prisons are overcrowded and poorly staffed.

Chinese drug trafficker escapes Indonesian jail by digging 100-feet tunnel into sewer

Twenty inmates were killed in a shootout with police during a prison breakout in Madagascar on Sunday, the justice ministry said.

Scores of prisoners attacked guards with rocks and grabbed a gun as they tried to flee the Farafangana prison in the southeast of the Indian Ocean island, it said.

The police and army moved in, capturing 37 of the 88 escapees, while another 20 were killed and eight wounded in a shootout.

Thirty-one inmates are still on the run, the ministry said, vowing to boost security at all penitentiaries across the country.

Mass prison escapes are not uncommon in Madagascar. In 2016, around 40 detainees broke out from a high-security prison in Toliary in southern Madagascar.

Twenty inmates were killed in a shootout with police during a prison breakout in Madagascar on Sunday, the justice ministry said. Scores of prisoners attacked guards with rocks and grabbed a gun as they tried to flee the Farafangana prison in the southeast of the Indian Ocean island, it said. The police and army moved in, capturing 37 of the 88 escapees, while another 20 were killed and eight wounded in a shootout. Thirty-one inmates are still on the run, the ministry said, vowing to boost security at all penitentiaries across the country. Mass prison escapes are not uncommon in Madagascar. In 2016, around 40 detainees broke out from a high-security prison in Toliary in southern Madagascar.
