The mass shooting came to light after several gunshots were heard&nbsp;after 11:30 pm local time. Upon hearing the gun shots, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officers, on their regular patrol, were alerted and swiftly responded to the scene near Circle Center Mall.

According to police reports, six individuals were found wounded by gunfire.

Later, they were swiftly attended to by emergency medical services and were moved to the hospital and the remaining one juvenile came on their own at the medical facility.&nbsp;One of the seven remains in critical condition while the remaining six are in stable condition.&nbsp;

Deputy Chief of Operations for Indianapolis Metropolitan Police, Tanya Terry, expressed grave concern over the incident, stating,&nbsp;"Once again, we have a situation where young people are resolving conflict with firearms, and it has to stop."&nbsp;

While sharing circumstantial information on the incident, Terry highlighted a recurring pattern of young individuals congregating in the downtown area after the mall's closing hours.

The police officer urged parents to take proactive measures in monitoring their children's activities.

"I think everybody sees the messages in the evening at 10 o'clock, 'Parents do you know where your children are?'," Terry said while adding, "And we would ask for our parents to get involved in what their children are out doing, especially at these hours of the evening."

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection to the shooting. An investigation is currently underway to nab the one who carried out the mass shooting.&nbsp;

Weilhammer said that the police have had numerous people who acted as witnesses. But the police also believe there were "several that were either at the Speedway gas station behind us or at the Waffle House that left the scene prior to our arrival".&nbsp;

Amarjit Sekhon, another deceased in the incident who began working at FedEx about six months ago, leaves behind two teenage sons who are yet to come to terms with their mother's death.

Rimpi Girn, Sekhon's niece, said she is struggling to explain her loss of her younger son.

"We can't even think of what to tell him. All of a sudden last night his mom went to work, and she never came back today," she was quoted as saying in the report.

National embarrassment, says Joe Biden

US President Joe Biden called the Indianapolis mass shootout a "national embarrassment" on Saturday.

"It`s not always these mass shootings that are occurring -- every single day, there`s a mass shooting in the United States, if you count all those who are killed out on the streets of our cities and our rural areas," he said.

"It`s a national embarrassment and must come to an end."

Biden and Democratic Party in general, is known for its stance of more gun controls in the US. This is fiercely opposed by the Republican Party.

Chief Minister of Indian state of Punjab Amarinder Singh on Saturday expressed shock at the mass shootout.

"Shocked by the mass shooting incident at FedEx Ground facility in Indianapolis which took the lives of 8 people including 4 Sikhs. Pray for strength to their families in this hour of grief" he said.

Meanwhile, India's Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar offered all possible help to the families of the victims.

"Deeply shocked by the shooting incident at FedEx facility in Indianapolis. Victims include persons of Indian American Sikh community. Our Consulate (in Chicago) @IndiainChicago is in touch with the Mayor and local authorities in Indianapolis as well as the community leaders," he said in a tweet.
