An Indian businessman was shot dead allegedly by a police constable in Kisoro town of Uganda, local media reported.

The deceased was identified as Kuntaj Patel. He was 24. He used to own a hardware shop in Kisoro District.

The Daily Monitor newspaper reported that 21-year-old Elioda Gumizamu, a police constable from the Field Force Unit (FFU), shot Patel and fled from the site before getting arrested.

The incident happened on October 27 around 2 pm. Gumizamu, along with other aides—who are yet to be tracked— walked into Patel’s shop and shot the Indian businessman in the chest, Elly Maate, the regional police spokesperson, said.

One of the eyewitnesses, Gilbert Mwiseneza, a casual worker at Patel’s shop, told the newspaper that he and his boss were attending to a client when the armed officer aimed the gun at his boss.

“After the shooting, he (policeman) tried to run away but he was intercepted by people who gave a chase,” Mwiseneza was quoted as saying.

Subsequently, Patel was taken to St Francis hospital in Mutolere in Kisoro District, where succumbed to his injuries hours later.

Gumizamu has been charged with murder and is currently detained at Kisoro police station for interrogation to find out the motive.

The latest attack comes on an Indian citizen in the backdrop of two more killings in Kenya months after they were abducted.

The idol wing of the CID police, led by ADGP K Jayanth Murali, informed the media in Chennai on Friday that they had acted on a tip that antique idols were being housed at a residence in Thanjavur.&nbsp;

The emerald lingam known as the 'Maragatha Lingam' (Shiva Lingam carved out of emerald) is estimated to be worth Rs 5 billion and was taken from the old Sri Thiyagaraja Swamy Temple, maintained by the Dharmapuram Aadheenam in Thirukkuvalai near Nagapattinam in 2016.&nbsp;

The emerald lingam was taken from the bank locker by the police squad.

According to the sources, a scientific investigation will be performed to determine its age, but it is expected to be 1,000 years old.

A case has been filed and is being investigated by the Idol wing police.&nbsp;

Nepal's Health Ministry on Thursday dismissed media reports that some Indian businessmen have received Chinese vaccines against the coronavirus in Kathmandu to be eligible for travelling to China.

Some media reports claimed that dozens of Indian businessmen flew from New Delhi to Kathmandu just to get the Chinese vaccine after Beijing made it mandatory for those wishing to visit China for business or study purposes to get vaccinated with the Chinese vaccines.

China has donated 800,000 doses of vaccines to Nepal.

There is no possibility of Indian businessmen getting the Chinese vaccines in Nepal as those wishing to get vaccinated must produce their identity before receiving the jab, said Ganesh Shrivastav, information officer at the Ministry of Health and Population.

"We have been regularly maintaining the record of those receiving vaccines against COVID-19, so there is no possibility of someone getting vaccinated without disclosing their identity,"&nbsp;he told PTI.

Srivastav said that he has clarified the issue to Indian authorities.&nbsp;
