In 2024, a surprising development has been recorded: there were no recruitments of young individuals, marking a notable shift in hiring trends. This decline in youth hiring raises concerns about opportunities for the younger generation and the potential impact on future workforce dynamics. Factors contributing to this drop remain unclear, but the situation has drawn attention from both employers and policymakers, who are closely monitoring the long-term effects on the economy and job market.

Indian Army: Decline In J&K Terror Graph, Recruitments Of Youth In 2024 Is NIL

The Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing a massive change with regard to local youth joining terror outfits. The Indian Army says that no local youth have joined the terror outfits in 2024 and the local recruitment has come down to zero. The Indian Army also says that the total number of active terrorists in the UT is at 80 and the majority of them are foreign terrorists.

The terror graph in Jammu and Kashmir has been on a decline for the last few years. Barring a few incidents of violence, the situation has largely been under control. From the areas close to the Line of Control in the Northern Part of Kashmir to the interiors of the Kashmir Valley, the situation has improved. Security forces have said that this year there have been no reports of any local youngsters joining the terror ranks in the Kashmir Valley.

In 2023, around 22 local youth had joined the terror ranks. However, the Indian Army says the situation in the Kashmir Valley has improved and terrorism in Kashmir is in its final stages.

"The terrorism today is largely fuelled from across the border, and I think that much is very clear. We have not had any active recruitment as I see in the last year and a half. The numbers last year were down to a dozen across the year. And this year they are almost next to nil. The official number with agencies is at 80 and you can see that's the lowest number in many years. We have gone below 100. It has been an endeavour of security forces to bring these numbers down. I am quite confident the way we are going ahead, these numbers will keep going down. We could be looking at a lesser figure by the middle of next year," said Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, general officer commanding the Srinagar-based 15 Corps.

Security forces in the region also believe that maintaining peace and improvement in the current atmosphere is the biggest challenge for them. The Indian Army believes that the security grid needs to be as tight and advocates that there should be no reduction in the number of troops in the Union Territory.

"If you see the violence parameters and atrocities committed by terrorists, if you look at four or five incidents in the valley this year. They are negligible. Now the challenge is to maintain the situation, Kashmir has had a good year, and we need a few more years like this for the lasting peace in the valley. That is going to be the biggest challenge for security forces given today," said Lieutenant General Ghai.

The HIM-DRONE-A-THON 2 event is being held in Ladakh’s Wari La pass from September 17 to 18, where more than 20 domestic drone makers have been invited to showcase drone solutions for high-altitude applications. The Wari La Pass is located at an altitude of over 15,000 feet where operating drones is comparatively difficult.
Six officers from the Maldivian Armed Forces are among the batch of 15 foreign military personnel that completed their 11-month training on Saturday (Sep 7), at the Indian Army's Officers Training Academy in the southern Indian city of Chennai. All 15 foreign personnel were trained along with the Indian Army's 297 officer cadets, which comprised 258 men and 39 women. Following their course completion, all 297 Indian officer cadets were formally commissioned into the Indian Army and earned their Lieutenant rank.

This ab initio military training being offered by India is an indication of the ongoing military diplomacy between India and Maldives, despite how bilateral ties have been navigating choppy waters since the new government of President Mohamed Muizzu came to power in the archipelagic nation, in November 2023.

Notably, President Muizzu had demanded that the Indian military personnel who were operating two helicopters and an aircraft, provided by the Indian government to the Maldives for maritime surveillance, search-and-rescue, and medical evacuation operations, leave the island nation. India agreed to this demand and by May this year, withdrew its military personnel including aircrew, and technicians, later replacing them with civilians. The decision to replace Indian military personnel with civilians represents a setback to India's endeavours to counteract China's influence in the strategically situated Maldives, which is around 500 km southwest of Kerala's capital Thiruvananthapuram.

Since assuming power, Muizzu's government has forged multiple economic agreements with China, sidelining India's role in various developmental projects. Notably, Maldives formalised a military assistance agreement with China in March and permitted a Chinese research vessel to berth at its port.

Meanwhile, India has been helping Maldives build 4,000 homes and has extended a $100 million line of credit to finance other infrastructure projects. Both nations have signed agreements for cooperation in cybersecurity, disaster management, and fishing zone forecast.

In a major breakthrough, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore has developed innovative footwear for the Indian armed forces called Tribo-Electric Nanogenerator (TENG) which can not only generate electricity with every step but also provide real-time location tracking.

IIT Indore delivered ten pairs of TENG shoes to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Tuesday (Aug 6). The high-tech shoes are equipped with sophisticated tracking technology, including RFID and a satellite-based GPS module for live location tracking.

Professor Suhas Joshi, the director of IIT Indore, has said that these shoes are expected to significantly enhance the safety, coordination, and operational efficiency of Indian Army personnel.

The shoes were developed under the guidance of Professor IA Palani, harnessing the Tribo-Electric Nanogenerator (TENG) technology. The TENG technology converts the mechanical energy generated from shoes by walking into electricity, which is then stored in a device embedded in the shoe’s soles.

The stored energy in shoes’ soles can power small electronic devices, providing a portable and renewable energy source for soldiers in the field.

The shoes are also equipped with GPS and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, which will allow real-time tracking of military personnel, which can enhance strategic coordination and ensure the safety of soldiers during operations.

Broad application of high-tech shoes

There are several broad potential applications of these TENG-powered shoes that extend beyond military use. Like for families with elderly members, especially those with Alzheimer's disease, the shoes offer peace of mind through reliable location tracking. Working parents can monitor their children's whereabouts throughout the school day, and schools can use RFID technology to maintain accurate attendance records. In industrial settings, the shoes are useful for attendance tracking and worker monitoring.

Several initiatives are underway and are being announced to absorb and enhance the skills of Agniveers. Agniveers are soldiers/Jawans recruited under the "Agnipath" scheme introduced by the Indian government in 2022. This scheme recruits individuals between 17.5 and 21 years old into the Indian Armed Forces for a four-year term time frame. At the end of this term, up to 25 per cent of these recruits may apply to join the services on a regular basis, based on merit and organisational needs. The remaining 75 per cent are released back into society with a financial package.

One of the initial steps to recruit Agniveers was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on December 26, 2022. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship’s Directorate General of Training (DGT) signed this MoU with the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force to certify the skills acquired by Agniveers during their training and service. These certifications are intended to aid Agniveers in their transition to the private sector.

'To Nawaz Sharif from Raveena Tandon': When Indian soldiers wrote actor's name on bombs during Kargil War

Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed every year on July 26 to celebrate India's historic victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War of 1999. The day is marked as a tribute to the sacrifice and bravery of the Indian soldiers who defended our nation. This year the nation marks the 25th anniversary of this momentous event in Indian history, for which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Dras, in the Kargil district in Ladakh, on July 26, 2024.

Kargil Vijay Diwas 2024: History

The history of Kargil Vijay Diwas begins during a period of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, following the war in 1971, which led to the creation of Bangladesh.

The tensions between the two nations were also running high after each of them tested their nuclear weapons in 1998.

In the winter of 1998-1999, Pakistani forces secretly infiltrated the strategic locations of the Dras and Batalik regions in Ladakh to observe the movement along India's NH 1A and potentially gain control. This was despite Pakistan signing the Lahore Declaration in February 1999 to resolve the Kashmir issue.

At first, the Indian Army mistook the infiltrators for extremist terrorists, but they later realised that the threat was much bigger and launched a counterattack against the Pakistani forces. India mobilised about 200,000 soldiers, marking the beginning of the Kargil War.

Kargil Vijay Diwas 2024: Significance

Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated to honour the courage of the Indian armed forces as well as the 527 soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation.

The Indian forces regained control over the region despite the tough terrain and climate, forcing Pakistan to withdraw. This day is also seen as a symbol of unity and a way to show gratitude to our armed forces for keeping Indian borders safe from threats.

Heroes of the Kargil War

Kargil Vijay Diwas is a tribute to the valour and sacrifice our soldiers displayed for the nation.

Captain Vikram Batra: Captain Batra led his team and recaptured Point 4875, even after being injured. His iconic "Ye dil mange more!" is still remembered. He was part of the 13 JAK Rifles regiment and was awarded Param Vir Chakra, the highest honour of the nation posthumously.

Rifleman Sanjay Kumar: Kumar, also part of the 13 JAK Rifles, fought the enemies even after getting multiple injuries at Point 4875. He was awarded Param Vir Chakra for his valour.

Lieutenant Manoj Kumar Pandey: Lieutenant Pandey of the 1/11 Gorkha Rifles regiment displayed courage and leadership in clearing enemy positions. He was honoured by Param Vir Chakra posthumously.

Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav: Despite being seriously injured, Yadav (18 Grenadiers) helped in capturing important enemy bunkers and bravely fought at Tiger Hill. He was only 19 years old and was awarded Param Vir Chakra.

Major Rajesh Adhikari: Major Adhikari (18 Grenadiers) was leading a mission to seize an enemy bunker at Tololing. Despite being severely injured, he fought until his last breath. He was honoured with Maha Vir Chakra.
