However, it was not immediately clear how many A350 aircraft will be purchased by Air India.

Air India has not bought a single aircraft since 2006 when it had placed orders for purchasing 111 aircraft, 68 from the US-based aircraft manufacturer Boeing and 43 from European aircraft manufacturer Airbus.

A wide-bodied plane like Airbus A350 has a bigger fuel tank that allows it to travel longer distances such as India-US routes.

The Tata Group took control of Air India on January 27 after successfully winning the bid for the airline on October 8 last year.

Sources on Wednesday said Air India has started asking its senior pilots if they will be interested in getting the "conversion training" to operate A350 aircraft.

Air India's pilots are trained to operate the wide-bodied aircraft of Boeing. Therefore, they have to undergo "conversion training" to operate A350 aircraft of Airbus.

According to Air India's website, the airline has total 49 wide-bodied aircraft -- 18 Boeing B777, 4 Boeing B747 and 27 B787 -- in its fleet. The carrier has 79 narrow-bodied planes in its fleet too.

Sources said Air India is purchasing A350 aircraft and is likely to get its first A350 plane by March 2023.

Since April, the airline's chairman N Chandrasekaran -- who also is the chairman of the Tata Group -- has rejigged the top management of the airline, bringing in senior and middle-level executives who have worked in other companies of the Tata Group such as Tata Steel and Vistara.

Air India and Airbus did not respond to PTI's queries regarding the aircraft procurement.&nbsp;

At the end of three-day official visit to Washington DC,&nbsp;Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said on Friday that&nbsp;India and the United States are closely watching Pakistan's actions in Afghanistan.

The foreign secretary added that in the limited engagement which India has had with the Taliban, the new Afghan rulers&nbsp;have showed they would be reasonable in addressing New Delhi's concerns.

You have to see whether the assurances that have been made publicly are actually maintained on the ground, and how things work out," Shringla added.

"Our engagement with them (the Taliban) has been limited. It's not that we have (had) a robust conversation. But for whatever conversation we've had so far, they've been sort of. At least, the Taliban seem to indicate that they will be reasonable in the way they handle this," he said.

The Indian diplomat was in the US capital for a series of meetings with his American counterpart and top officials of the Biden administration. He also had&nbsp;interaction with representations from the industry and think-tanks.

Seeing this, a bank customer alerted local police, who closed the ATM centre and informed the concerned bank after reaching the spot, said an official of Khaparkheda police station. &nbsp;

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been asked to rejoin the probe on Friday by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in connection with the National Herald case, said sources.

The Congress leader left the ED office after 9.00 PM on Wednesday.

The former Congress chief appeared before the ED for the third consecutive day on Wednesday for questioning.

Regarding his questioning by ED on Monday, as per official sources, the Congress leader, a Z+ category protectee of the Central Reserve Police Force after the Union government withdrew the Gandhi family`s Special Protection Group cover in 2019, was confronted with several documents collated by the ED as evidence recovered so far in the case to get his version.

Rahul Gandhi was questioned in detail about the ownership of Young Indian Private Limited (YIL) by the Gandhi family and its shareholding pattern in Associated Journals Limited (AJL), the company that runs the National Herald newspaper, said sources.

Investigators in the ED, sources said, have also asked Rahul Gandhi to describe the circumstances under which AJL was acquired by YIL in 2010, making it the owner of all assets owned by the National Herald newspaper.

The National Herald, started by India`s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, was published by the AJL. In 2010, the AJL, which faced financial difficulties, was taken over by a newly-floated YIL with Suman Dubey and Sam Pitroda as directors, both of them Gandhi loyalists.

Thus, the 24-year-old superstar also&nbsp;bettered his own previous national record&nbsp;of 88.07 meters which he had attained last year in March, in Patiala.

In his first attempt, Neeraj had a throw of 86.92 metres as he got off the mark in style. In only his second attempt, the youngster returned with a throw of 89.30, more than his gold-medal throw at Tokyo 2020. As soon as the javelin left his hands, the Indian star was sure about the distance it would reach and celebrated in style, as he did in Tokyo last year. Gaikwad completed his fifty in 30 balls and then welcomed Keshav Maharaj with an inside out lift for a four, but the spinner had him caught off his own bowling with India on 97 for one at the halfway stage. 
Ishan then gave a special treatment to Maharaj, picking up two fours and a six en route a 31-ball fifty, his second of the series.

A day after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was questioned for over 10 hours by the Enforcement Directorate in a money-laundering probe linked to the National Herald newspaper, he will appear before the central probe agency again on Tuesday.

Former Congress President appeared before ED for the first time for questioning on Monday. He left the ED office around 11 pm after questioning on Monday.

The interrogation began at 11 am on Monday morning. The first round of questioning concluded at around 2:15 pm for a lunch break. The Congress leader returned to his residence followed by his visit to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in the national capital where his mother and party interim president Sonia Gandhi is admitted due to COVID-related issues.

Rahul Gandhi`s questioning resumed the probe for the second round at around 3:45 pm on Monday.

Nobody should have any objection if the law will take its own course. But we object to the misuse of ED, CBI and IT that is being done."

"We should follow the course of law, only then will the nation function. Law should be equal for everyone. But the targetted summons being sent to leaders, in poll-bound states, Income Tax, ED, and Central Bureau of Investigation raids take place. That is wrong," he added.

On Monday, Gandhi arrived at the ED`s office in the national capital with his sister and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, amid a huge march by the party workers along with him to the office.

Congress leaders and workers have staged protests holding placards at AICC headquarters in New Delhi over the summons. Various leaders including Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel and Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot took part in the party`s Satyagraha march.

Following the day-long protest, the Congress party said that senior leader and former Union Minister P Chidambaram suffered a fracture in his left rib after he was pushed away by Delhi Police during the party`s protest in support of Rahul Gandhi.

"When three big, burly policemen crash into you, you are lucky to get away with a suspected hairline crack! Doctors have said that if there is a hairline crack, it will heal by itself in about 10 days. I am fine and I will go about my work tomorrow," Chidambaram tweeted.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur hit back at Congress, saying that the country now knows Congress party supports corruption.

"Congress`s real face has come to light. Why is Rahul Gandhi scared? If he`s not done anything wrong, he should let ED do its job. Would the law change for 1 party and 1 family? The country now knows Congress party supports corruption," he said.

The first meeting of the India, Israel, US and UAE leaders' summit will take place next month during President Biden's in person visit to Israel. The US President will be in West Asia from July 13th to July 16th with stops in Israel, the West Bank, and Saudi Arabia. The new grouping of the 4 countries is known as I2U2 with I standing for India, Israel and U for US, UAE. The grouping is sometime referred to as the West Asian Quad.

A senior US administration official said, "President will hold a virtual summit with the I2U2 heads of state for discussions of the food security crisis and other areas of cooperation across hemispheres where UAE and Israel serve as important innovation hubs". The official added, "President looks forward to this unique engagement with Prime Minister Bennett of Israel, with Prime Minister Modi of India, and President Mohammed bin Zayed of the UAE.'

So far, the I2U2 has met only at foreign minister's level. The first meet took place during EAM Jaishankar's Israel visit in October of last year. During that visit, United Arab Emirates Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed and US Secretary of state Antony Blinken joined virtually while Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid and Indian EAM were together in person. One of the key focus areas of the grouping has been issues like trade, climate, and maritime security.

The Quad meeting is seen as one of the key dividends of the Abraham accords that saw the normalization of ties between Israel and the United Arab Emirates. UAE was the first country in the Persian Gulf to normalize ties with Israel.&nbsp;India has strong ties with both Israel and UAE in West Asia and since the accords were signed, they have worked in a trilateral arrangement. PM Modi will be traveling to UAE later this month as part 2 nation visit, which includes his visit to Germany.
