Delhi reported 917 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours with a case positivity rate of 19.20 per cent, as per a bulletin from the Delhi Health Department. The positivity rate is close to 20 per cent, the highest in the past seven months. In Delhi, 4,775 tests have been performed in the last 24 hours.

The capital currently has 6,867 active cases. As per the health ministry, there were 1,566 recoveries and three deaths in Delhi in the last 24 hours, PTI reported.

Meanwhile, Delhi Lieutenant Governor (L-G) VK Saxena stated that people can’t afford to let their guard down because Covid infections have been on rise&nbsp;in the national capital.

Bait Ul Meeras has also opened doors to the locals to donate or showcase their valuable collections of old artefacts. Some of the heritage ornaments and utensils have been donated by the people, especially young students. Some children have donated stuff towards the centre that belonged to their grandparents or had it in the family. Under the guidance of Nighat Shafi, chairman of Help Foundation, we were able to create a space for the people to work on their creative sides. We not only display the heritage artefacts here but also showcase artisans making Kashmiri craft products like carpets, shawls and pottery. The only motive for us coming here is to make children of the valley aware about the rich heritage we have had. Our kids hardly have any idea about the history of the valley, and to show them what we were and what we had is the main focus. From our costumes to our utensils to jewellery, we have put up everything,'' said Hakim Javid, Coordinator. Bait Ul Meeras has also opened doors to the locals to donate or showcase their valuable collections of old artefacts. The mortal remains of a soldier who went missing in 1984 during an army operation in Siachen have been found after 38 years, as per the Indian Army’s Northern Command, which announced the finding on Monday (August 15).

The Northern Command of the Indian Army stated in a tweet that the soldier went missing on May 29, 1984. The Indian Army stated that the late soldier was identified with the help of an identification disc, containing the soldier’s army number and more details were recovered from the official records.

This operation was distinctive as it was the first to be launched from the highest battleground in the world. However, the Indian troops were able to take control of the entire Siachen Glacier.

India and Pakistan have been at war with each other on and off since 1984, with Siachen serving as the highest battleground between the countries. Both nations keep a constant military presence in the area.

More than 2,000 soldiers have lost their lives in this hostile environment, mostly due to weather extremes and natural hazards of mountain combat.

Football's premier ruling body FIFA on Tuesday decided to suspend&nbsp;All India Football Federation (AIFF) with immediate effect for colluding with third parties and influencing the footballing operations in the country. The suspension had been looming for a long time and FIFA stated that the decision to ban AIFF was taken unanimously.&nbsp;

"The Bureau of the FIFA Council has unanimously decided to suspend the All India Football Federation (AIFF) with immediate effect due to undue influence from third parties, which constitutes a serious violation of the FIFA Statutes.' said the body in its statement.&nbsp;

As a result of the ban, the upcoming FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup scheduled to take place from October 11-30 will remain suspended. FIFA added that the future of the tournament will be decided in due time and if required, the matter may be forwarded to Bureau of the Council.

FIFA added that the suspension will only be lifted when the Indian Footballing Federation gets its act together.&nbsp;

"The suspension will be lifted once an order to set up a committee of administrators to assume the powers of the AIFF Executive Committee has been repealed and the AIFF administration regains full control of the AIFF’s daily affairs." added FIFA.&nbsp;

As reported extensively by WION, AIFF is currently in turmoil as the board is being run by the Supreme Court (SC)-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) after former president Praful Patel's ouster.

After the Supreme Court of India directed the AIFF to conduct elections in the national federation, FIFA issued its warning. In a strongly worded letter in association with Asian Football Confederation&nbsp;(AFC), FIFA, earlier this month remarked:

"AIFF was to call for a special general assembly in the first week of August 2022 to approve the new statute worked upon with FIFA, the AFC and the Indian football community.&nbsp;Unfortunately, we have been informed that the Supreme Court’s hearing held yesterday on the situation of the AIFF allegedly resulted in deviations to the aforementioned roadmap."

It further added,&nbsp;“If this is considered to be true, it would irrefutably jeopardise the mutual understanding which was displayed so far on the steps forward."

A ban from FIFA is expected to be catastrophic for Indian football as the national teams will not be able to take part in any international tournament. The ISL and I-League clubs who are set to compete in FIFA-governed tournaments will also be barred from participating in them. However, the most heartbreaking news will be the cancellation of host duties for the U-17 Women's World Cup. It can set back the women's game another 10-15 years.
