The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link's (MTHL) maximum speed limit for four-wheelers is 100 kmph, while autorickshaws, tractors and motorbikes will not be allowed on the sea bridge, said the police on Wednesday (Jan 10). 
 
The MTHL, which is also called Atal Setu after the name of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, will be inaugurated on January 12 by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said the Chief Minister's Office. 
 
As per media reports,&nbsp;light motor vehicles like&nbsp;minibuses, two-axle buses, cars, and taxis will have a speed limit of 100 kilometres per hour. On the bridge's ascent and descent, the speed will remain restricted to 40 kmph. 
 
The official said that the Mumbai police have imposed the speed limit on the longest sea bridge in India to curb "danger, obstructions and inconvenience to the public".

He said that these vehicles will have to go via Mumbai Port-Sewri Exit (Exit 1C) and then take the MBPT Road close to 'Gadi Adda' for further movement. 
 
Entry will not be given to vehicles like motorcycles, mopeds, three-wheelers, autos, tractors, slow-moving vehicles and animal-drawn vehicles, the official further said. 
 
The MTHL runs for 16.50 kilometres over the sea and 5.5 km on land and has six lanes.

The latest update also reported three additional deaths in the past 24 hours, with two fatalities in Maharashtra and one in the southern state of Karnataka. India's cumulative death toll due to Covid has now reached 5,33,409.

The shift in the Covid case count began around December 5, 2023, when the daily cases, previously below 100, started to rise.&nbsp;

As of January 6, there have been 682 cases of the JN.1 sub-variant reported in 12 states.

According to the&nbsp;Health Ministry update at&nbsp; 8 a.m. on Thursday (Indian Standard Time), there has been a rise in active Covid cases across several&nbsp;states, including&nbsp;Maharashtra and Karnataka.

So far in India, more than 44 million (44,483,502 individuals) people have successfully recovered from the virus, with the&nbsp;cumulative national recovery rate standing&nbsp;at 98.81 per cent.&nbsp;

The current fatality rate is at 1.81 per cent.&nbsp;

According to data available on the website of the Indian health ministry, so far over 2.2 billion doses of Covid vaccine (or 220.67 crore) have been administered across the country.

Vaccination continues to be the most effective mode to combat the spread of the virus.

Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu urged China to "intensify efforts" in sending more Chinese tourists, as a diplomatic row continued over derogatory remarks by Maldivian politicians against Indian PM Narendra Modi for promoting Lakshadweep as a destination for Indian tourists.&nbsp;

His remarks came in the wake of Maldivian ministers' derogatory remarks against India which triggered sharp reactions from Indians to boycott the island country as a tourism destination.

Notably, there has been a slew of travel cancellations to the Maldives by Indian tourists following the diplomatic row where one of the sitting ministers of Muizzu's government passed unwelcome&nbsp;comments against Indian PM Modi.&nbsp;
