These sectors are located as high as 14,500 feet above the sea level, making it the highest battlefield for tanks and infantry combat vehicles along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh.</p>

<p>A large number of tanks and BMP combat vehicles as well as&nbsp;Indian-made armoured vehicles like the Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicles, have been deployed in Eastern Ladakh after the stand-off between India and China&nbsp;in April-May 2020.</p>

<p>"The tanks and infantry combat vehicles have been deployed in these super-high-altitude areas, where it is very difficult even to get them back for maintenance and repair,” Indian Army officials told ANI.</p>

<p>"To help sustain the armoured vehicle operations in the region, we have set up these Medium Maintenance (Reset) Facilities at Nyoma and near KM-148 on the DS-DBO Road in the DBO sector. These are the two main areas where tank and ICV operations are focussed in the eastern Ladakh sector," they added.</p>

<p>In Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district, a family from Puttur made an unconventional move by placing an advertisement in a local newspaper. The advertisement sought a suitable 'spiritual' groom for their daughter, who passed away three decades ago.</p>

<p>The family is in search of a groom to uphold a tradition called 'Kule Madime' or 'Pretha Maduve'. This age-old custom, which entails the marriage of spirits of the dead, is practiced in the coastal regions of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. Specifically, the family is seeking a boy from the Kulal caste and Bangera Gotra, who passed away three decades ago, to partake in the Pretha Maduve ritual.</p>

<p>The advertisement reads: "Seeking groom who passed 30 years ago for a bride (sic) who passed 30 years ago. Please call the number to arrange a Pretha Maduve (marriage of spirits)."</p>

<p>The family, speaking to the Times of India, disclosed that they have received around 50 inquiries from interested individuals and may soon decide on a date to conduct the ceremony. They further stated that they have been searching for a groom for their daughter for the last five years, with the intention of upholding the 'Kule Madime' tradition.</p>

<p>“When placing the advertisement, we were worried that we would be trolled, but surprisingly, this has also led to a lot of awareness about the ritual. Interestingly, many people from&nbsp; different castes&nbsp;have reached out, some even to know more about the practice," TOI quoted the family member as saying.</p>

The advertisement sought a suitable 'spiritual' groom for their daughter, who passed away three decades ago. The family is in search of a groom to uphold a tradition called 'Kule Madime' or 'Pretha Maduve'. This age-old custom, which entails the marriage of spirits of the dead, is practiced in the coastal regions of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi. Specifically, the family is seeking a boy from the Kulal caste and Bangera Gotra, who passed away three decades ago, to partake in the Pretha Maduve ritual. The advertisement reads: "Seeking groom who passed 30 years ago for a bride (sic) who passed 30 years ago. Please call the number to arrange a Pretha Maduve (marriage of spirits)." The family, speaking to the Times of India, disclosed that they have received around 50 inquiries from interested individuals and may soon decide on a date to conduct the ceremony. They further stated that they have been searching for a groom for their daughter for the last five years, with the intention of upholding the 'Kule Madime' tradition. “When placing the advertisement, we were worried that we would be trolled, but surprisingly, this has also led to a lot of awareness about the ritual. Interestingly, many people from different castes have reached out, some even to know more about the practice," TOI quoted the family member as saying. <p>The Supreme Court on Wednesday (May&nbsp;15) declined to consider a plea from a 20-year-old unmarried woman seeking to terminate her pregnancy of over 27 weeks, arguing&nbsp;&nbsp;that the foetus&nbsp;also has a fundamental right to life.</p>

<p>A bench led by Justice B R Gavai issued the order while hearing the woman's appeal against the Delhi High Court's May 3 decision, which denied her request to terminate her pregnancy.</p>

<p>"We can't pass any order contrary to the statute," the bench, also comprising Justices S V N Bhatti and Sandeep Mehta, told her counsel.</p>

<p>"The child in womb also has a fundamental right to live. What do you say about that?," the bench asked.</p>

<p>The woman's lawyer argued that the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act focuses solely on the mother's rights.</p>

<p>"It is made for mother," he said.</p>

<p>The bench noted that the pregnancy had now exceeded seven months.</p>

<p>"What about the right of the child to survive? How do you address that?," the bench asked.</p>

<p>The counsel argued that since the foetus is still in the womb, the mother's rights prevail until the child is born.</p>

<p>"The petitioner at this stage is under severe traumatic condition. She can't come outside also. She is taking classes for NEET exam. She is under highly traumatic condition. She can't face the society at this stage," he said.</p>

<p>The lawyer contended that her mental and physical well-being should be taken into account.</p>

<p>"Sorry," the bench said.</p>

<p>In its May 3 order, the high court observed that on April 25, it had instructed the All India Institute of Medical Sciences to form a medical board to evaluate the condition of the fetus and the petitioner.</p>

<p>"A perusal of the report shows that there is no congenital abnormality in the foetus nor is there any danger to the mother to carry on with the pregnancy which will mandate termination of the foetus," the high court had said.</p>

<p>"Since the foetus is viable and normal, and there is no danger to the petitioner to carry on with the pregnancy, foeticide would neither be ethical nor legally permissible," it had said.</p>

<p>The petitioner had informed the high court that on April 16, she experienced abdominal discomfort and underwent an ultrasound, which revealed she was 27 weeks pregnant, crossing the legal limit of 24 weeks.</p>

I don't think people should take a narrow view of it."</p>

<p>"They (US) have not done so in the past. So, if you look at the US'&nbsp;own&nbsp;attitude towards the port in Chabahar, the US has been appreciative of the fact that Chabahar has a larger relevance...we will work at it," he stated.&nbsp;</p>
