External injuries on the victim include abrasions on the cheeks, lips, nose, neck, arms, and knees. Additionally, she had injuries on her private parts.

Meanwhile, internal injuries include those on the muscles of her neck, scalp, and other body parts.

"I have handed over to CBI all the documents given to me by the doctors of RG Kar Hospital...If before 23rd August a breakthrough is reached, then it is better as the arrested accused is presented before the court on that day, then the remand copy will indicate he was the lone culprit or not," said Ghosh.

On the night of November 27, 1973, she was brutally attacked by a ward attendant at the hospital. The rapist, identified as Sohanlal Bharta Walmiki, sexually assaulted her before strangling her using a dog chain.&nbsp;

The brutal attack left Shanbaug with severe brain damage and she fell into a persistent vegetative state (PVS).&nbsp;

Reportedly, the ward boy attacked her because Aruna accused him of stealing food meant for medical experiments at the hospital and threatened to report the theft to hospital authorities.

That year, a journalist Pinki Virani — the writer of a book on Aruna titled 'Aruna's Story' — filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking permission for euthanasia. On March 7, 2011, the Supreme Court rejected the petition for active euthanasia. The court said that Aruna was not brain-dead and responded to certain stimuli.&nbsp;

After years in a persistent vegetative state, Aruna contracted pneumonia and died of it on May 18, 2015. Rohtak Police said an incident of assault on&nbsp;a BDS student at the PGIMS Rohtak campus was brought to their notice on Saturday night by PGIMS authorities, and acting swiftly on the information, senior police officers reached the medical institute and contacted the victim and her family.

In her complaint, the woman student alleged that on August 16, the accused kidnapped her from PGIMS, took her to Ambala and Chandigarh, and tortured and beat her, said police.

Police said an FIR was registered, and the accused was immediately arrested. The victim has been medically examined, and her statement has also been recorded before a judicial magistrate, they said.

Rohtak police said no evidence of sexual harassment has yet come to the fore in the girl's statement or during the investigation.

The accused doctor teaches anatomy at the medical college.

In a video, which she uploaded on social media, the victim showed injury marks as a result of the alleged assault.

She stated that she was a first-year student of BDS and alleged that she was tortured by the accused for seven months.

"He beats me, tortures me whenever I tell him that I don't want to be with him. He threatens that he will not mark my attendance in lectures and won't allow me to sit in exams," the woman student alleged in the video.

The accused is being interrogated thoroughly. An investigation is being done keeping every aspect in mind, Rohtak Deputy Superintendent of Police Virender Singh said in a statement.

He said that the BDS student complained about the assault on Saturday night.

"The police team and senior officers of PGIMS immediately reached the spot. The police immediately took cognisance of the matter, and an FIR was registered against the accused," he said.

On August 9, a post-graduate trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal. A preliminary autopsy of her body suggested that the trainee doctor was subjected to violent sexual assault.

Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer, was arrested by the Kolkata Police in connection with the case.&nbsp;

A preliminary investigation into the matter revealed that Roy, at the time of the crime, had consumed alcohol. Citing sources, India Today reported that Sanjay went to a place behind the hospital to drink alcohol and that he used to watch porn while drinking.

On&nbsp;Tuesday (Aug&nbsp;13), a bench of the Calcutta High Court&nbsp;observed that there had been no significant progress in investigations made by the Kolkata Police in five days since the tragic incident. Expressing its dissatisfaction, the court&nbsp;ordered the transfer of the probe into the alleged rape and murder of the trainee doctor to&nbsp;India's central investigative agency, the CBI.&nbsp;

Since then, the CBI has interrogated multiple doctors of&nbsp;R G Kar Medical College and Hospital. Dr Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the R G Kar hospital has been grilled by the investigative agency for four consecutive days.

Meanwhile, in an interesting twist to the case, Senior Trinamool Congress leader&nbsp;Kunal Ghosh has reportedly submitted to the CBI documents related to the corruption of Dr Sandip Ghosh.

The TMC leader claimed that junior doctors of the hospital have supplied all the information and documents related to Sandip Ghosh's corruption. He also said that if CBI finds these documents necessary, the doctors will be happy to cooperate with the agency.

"I have handed over to CBI all the documents given to me by the doctors of RG Kar Hospital...If before 23rd August a breakthrough is reached, then it is better as the arrested accused is presented before the court on that day, then the remand copy will indicate he was the lone culprit or not," said Ghosh.

"Another driver, a cleaner, a sweeper, and a cashier were involved. All five have been identified and arrested. All the accused are residents of Majra, Buggawala and Bhagwanpur," he said, adding, "The main accused said that he saw the girl roaming at Kashmere Gate in Delhi and told her to sit on the bus."

She underwent a medical examination and a report is awaited. Furthermore, the bus in which&nbsp;the heinous crime allegedly took place, plus another bus, have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for investigation.

SSP Singh told the press that a guard at a shop on platform number 1 of the bus terminus in Dehradun called 1098 after spotting the victim.

"The guard called 1098, but the girl did not tell her name and was only saying that she was from Patiala. She also said that she did not have parents. We were told that she seemed mentally disturbed," said SSP Singh.

During counselling, the girl told the police that she was from Moradabad, and was travelling from Delhi to Dehradun when the crime happened.

"The information about the place of incident is not clear, but she revealed that five people had raped her one by one," the police said.
