The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) has been declared a terrorist organisation and banned by the Indian government. The Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday released a notification stating TRF was banned under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) for terror activities, including recruitment and infiltration of terrorists from across the border into the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir.

Ever since India abrogated the controversial Article 370, the funding routes of most terror outfits have dried up. With the UT more homogeneously assimilated with the rest of India, the terror outfits like TRF are attempting to recreate the chaos of 1989 when Kashmiri Pandits were driven out of their homes in a mass exodus. Lashkar and Jaish-e-Mohammad have been alleged to have concocted the name of the banned terror outfit. Resistance was added in the name to provide credence in global politics, according to experts related to the matter. According to data released by the J&K Police, the most number of terrorists (108) to be killed in 2022 in the valley were from TRF. “During the year 2022, a total of 93 successful encounters took place in Kashmir in which 172 terrorists, including 42 foreign terrorists, were neutralised. Maximum terrorists neutralised were from LeT/TRF (108) outfit followed by JeM (35), HM (22), Al-Badr (4) and AGuH (3) outfits,” said Vijay Kumar, ADGP, Kashmir Police. India: Centre declares Lashkar's offshoot 'The Resistance Front' a terrorist organisation

India’s Border Security Force (BSF) on Wednesday said they have foiled plans of the Pakistani-based terror groups to attack Amarnath Yatra after detecting a cross-border tunnel along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district.

According to the Indian security force, the tunnel is 150 metres long and originates in Pakistan. Its opening was about 2 feet and sandbags were used to strengthen the exit of the tunnel.

Apart from that, a 265-feet long Oxygen pipe was also found in the tunnel as a further search was underway.

The officers believe that the tunnel was by two suicide bombers of the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror group to sneak into India,&nbsp;news agency PTI reported.

The suicide bombers were neutralised two weeks ago during a gunfight that ensued shortly after attacking a CISF bus, killing an Assistant Sub-inspector in Sunjwan area of Jammu on April 22.

"With the detection of this tunnel, BSF-Jammu has foiled the nefarious designs of Pakistan-based terrorists to disrupt the upcoming Amarnath yatra," PTI quoted BSF DIG SPS Sandhu as saying.

Inspector General of BSF Jammu Frontier, DK Boora informed that this tunnel was the fifth one detected in less than one-and-half years.

"This shows the evil strategy of Pakistan establishment to create trouble in India," Boora told reporters in Jammu.

BSF has been keeping a strict vigil on 192 km International Border and Line of Control (LoC) alongside the Army to scuttle any attempt of infiltration of terrorists, smuggling of weapons and narcotics and drone activity from across the border.

According to the Indian security force, the tunnel is 150 metres long and originates in Pakistan. Its opening was about 2 feet and sandbags were used to strengthen the exit of the tunnel. Apart from that, a 265-feet long Oxygen pipe was also found in the tunnel as a further search was underway. The officers believe that the tunnel was by two suicide bombers of the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror group to sneak into India, news agency PTI reported. The suicide bombers were neutralised two weeks ago during a gunfight that ensued shortly after attacking a CISF bus, killing an Assistant Sub-inspector in Sunjwan area of Jammu on April 22. This year the state witnessed 305 &nbsp;incidents of terror in which 14 civilians, 71 security personnel and 140 terrorists were killed, as per data available till November 27.&nbsp;

17 civilians, 39 security personnel and 46 terrorists were killed in 208 terror attacks across J&amp;K last year.&nbsp;

The federal ministry of home affairs says there&#39;s been a spurt in infiltration attempts into Jammu and Kashmir from Pakistan. The data available with the ministry till October 2016 is alarming, with the inflitration attempts more than doubling to 276 this year from 2015&#39;s 121.&nbsp;

Jammu and Kashmir accounted for almost 50% of India's terrorist incidents in 2016

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called for &quot;resolute action&quot; against terrorism in the region.

In his address at the 6th conference of Heart of Asia, he also urged on the importance of taking strict action against those who support, shelter, train and finance them.

&quot;Terrorism and externally-induced instability pose the gravest threat to Afghanistan&#39;s peace, stability and prosperity. And, the growing arc of terrorist violence endangers our entire region. As such, support for voices of peace in Afghanistan alone is not enough.

&quot;It must be backed by resolute action. Not just against forces of terrorism, but also against those who support, shelter, train and finance them,&quot; the prime minister said.

He was speaking after jointly inaugurating the annual ministerial conference here along with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani which is being attended by Pakistan Prime Minister Foreign Affairs Adviser Sartaj Aziz along with representatives of around 30 countries.

&quot;Silence and inaction against terrorism in Afghanistan and our region will only embolden terrorists and their masters. Third, our bilateral and regional commitments of material assistance for Afghanistan&#39;s development and humanitarian needs must continue and increase,&quot; Modi&nbsp;said.

Modi said there was a need to demonstrate strong and collective will to defeat terror networks that cause bloodshed and spread fear.

Expressing India&#39;s strong commitment to Afghanistan&#39;s transition, Modi said, &quot;On India&#39;s part, our commitment to our brave Afghan brothers and sisters is absolute and unwavering. The welfare of Afghanistan and its people is close to our hearts and minds.&quot;

He also called for an Afghan-led, Afghan-owned and Afghan-controlled peace process to bring stability to the country.&nbsp;

Calling for sustained and sincere global efforts to bring &quot;durable peace and lasting political stability&quot; to Afghanistan, Modi said securing its territory and citizens from external threats must be a focus area for the &quot;critical unfinished mission of our time&quot;.

&quot;We have no doubt about the scale of the challenge. But, we are equally determined to succeed,&quot; he said, adding the results of collective efforts thus far have been hard-won, but mixed.

Modi said there was a need to reflect with urgency on what more must be done and what must be avoided in Afghanistan so that its citizens can self-sustain peace and economic growth.

&quot;The question is of resolve and action. And, of putting Afghanistan and its people first. For this, First, an Afghan-led, Afghan-owned and Afghan-controlled process is key. It is the only guarantor of durability of solutions.

Noting that all those involved in Afghanistan&#39;s transition must build on the gains of the last 15 years, he said what was at stake is not just the future of Afghanistan that has invested in a vision of development, democracy, and pluralism but the the peace and stability of the entire region, and beyond.

Pitching for improving connectivity between Afghanistan and countries of the region, the prime minister said Afghanistan should be at the centre of our connectivity networks, not peripheral to them.

&quot;On our part, we see Afghanistan as the hub for strengthening links of connectivity between South Asia and Central Asia.

&quot;We cannot deny that the more connected Afghanistan is with the regional arteries of trade, capital and markets, the more assured would be its economic growth and progress. President Ghani and I have converged on the priority of strengthening trade and transport linkages with other partners in the region,&quot; he said.

Talking about significance of hosting the Heart of Asia Conference in Amritsar, Modi said the flow of trade, people and ideas through the region has often intersected in the holy city on one of Asia&#39;s oldest and longest surface arteries, the Grand Trunk Road.

&quot;Amritsar reinforces the value of restoring connectivity which is so crucial for the overall growth, stability and economic prosperity of Afghanistan,&quot; he said, while describing the city as an embodiment of peace and humanism as well as a symbol of great valour and sacrifice.

Talking about Amritsar&#39;s link with Afghanistan, he said among the the earliest disciples of the first Guru of Sikhs, Baba Guru Nanak Dev ji, were Afghans he had preached in Kabul in the 15th century.
