Pakistan witnessed its deadliest month of 2026 as militant attacks, bombings, and counterterrorism operations intensified across the country.

According to a report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), 606 people were killed and 232 injured during terror attacks and security operations in July 2026. The report highlights a sharp escalation in violence across Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where militants reportedly used IEDs and quadcopter attacks to target infrastructure.

“Police received information about the presence of Maoists of Darbha division in Puru Hidma region and an operation was launched by the DRG troops. A top leader of the Pakistani Taliban, also known as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and two other members were killed in a targeted bomb attack in Afghanistan.

Senior commander Abdul Wali, also known as Omar Khalid Khorasani, who carried a bounty of $3 million, was travelling with senior commanders of the militant group in the Birmal district of the Patrika province, which borders Pakistan, when their vehicle hit a roadside mine.

According to Associated Press, Khorasani's vehicle was reportedly struck on Sunday night in a targeted IED attack.

The Taliban confirmed the killing on Monday and ordered an investigation of the incident.

&nbsp;“Senior TTP leader Omar Khalid Khorasani and two other members of the banned outfit were killed in a roadside bomb attack in Afghanistan on Sunday evening,” Taliban spokesman Muhammad Khorasani said.

Khorasani was a former journalist and poet. He was wanted by the Pakistani government for his involvement in a series of attacks on security forces, tribal elders and members of the peace committee in the area, reports Dawn.

Omar and a majority of the TTP members from Mohmand agency had parted ways with the TTP and formed a splinter group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan Jamaat Ahrar (TTP-JA) in 2014 after he accused the leadership of deviating from the outfit’s ideology.

Top Pakistani Taliban leader killed in IED attack in Afghanistan

India on Thursday voiced deep concern over terror groups, such as Da’esh and Al Nusra Front, using landmines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to spread terror, saying that nations affected by such war-tactic need assistance.

Addressing the UN Security Council open debate on ''Mine Action'', Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs Vikas Swarup said that the countries affected by landmines, particularly with conflict situations, require assistance.

"It is a matter of deep concern that terrorist groups, such as Da’esh, Hayat Taharir Al Sham [HTS], Al Nusra Front, have resorted to landmines and IEDs as low cost and effective options to spread terror and threaten innocent civilians," he said.

He noted that a similar trend was being witnessed in Mali, where peacekeepers have been targeted by IEDs.

Voicing concern that such usage has only increased, Swarup stressed the need to strongly condemn and take effective measures to combat this trend.

“The countries affected by landmines, particularly with conflict situations, require assistance. We need to provide assistance without politicising the issue since it is the people who suffer from this menace,” he said.

According to a concept note prepared for the meeting -- held under the Council Presidency of Vietnam --, 2019 was the fifth year in a row with high numbers of recorded casualties owing to the indiscriminate use of landmines, explosive remnants of war and improvised explosive devices.

The vast majority of recorded casualties were civilians (80 per cent), of whom 43 per cent were children.

It added that the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in Mali has recorded more than 350 casualties since its creation in 2013, of whom 65 were killed as a result of attacks using explosives, which have increasingly included improvised explosive devices.

India, a leading contributor to UN peacekeeping operations, has extended assistance towards international demining and rehabilitation efforts.

"We have also undertaken specialist training on Counter IED, bomb disposal and de-mining operations with numerous partner countries, including Australia, Cambodia, Indonesia and Uzbekistan," Swarup said.

He pointed out that a 12-member team of experts from India participated in a joint counter explosive threat task forces training exercise, Ardent Defender-2019 in Ontario, Canada.

About 130 personnel from 13 African states participated in exercise AFINDEX, a multinational exercise on de-mining and unexploded ordnance held in India in March 2019.

In addition to providing training in demining, India had also provided seven de-mining teams to clear landmines in the Northern part of Sri Lanka in 2010 which helped facilitate the return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to rebuild their lives, he said.

In October 2018, the ‘India for Humanity’ initiative was launched as a part of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary celebrations, with a focus on Gandhi''s philosophy of compassion and service to humanity.

Swarup told the Council meeting that under this initiative, 13 artificial limb fitment camps have been held by India in 12 countries and more than 6,500 artificial limbs have been fitted, mainly in Asia and Africa.

The limb fitment camps, which aim to provide for the physical, economic and social rehabilitation of the affected persons and help them regain their mobility and dignity, have now been extended upto March 2023.

In this context, he acknowledged the association of BMVSS Jaipur, led by Dr. D.R. Mehta, for contributing artificial limb ‘Jaipur Foot’ for thousands affected by disabilities brought by conflicts and land mines.

Swarup underscored India’s willingness to share its best practices with member states and the United Nations with respect to IED design, development, proliferation, mitigation and stand ready to contribute towards capacity building, victim assistance and victim rehabilitation.

Swarup told the meeting that India is fully committed to the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons and is a signatory to all its five Protocols, attaching high priority to the full implementation and universalisation of Amended Protocol-II “as it strikes the right balance between humanitarian concerns and legitimate defence requirements of States, especially those with long borders.”

India has a moratorium on the export and transfer of landmines and is committed to reducing the dependence on Anti-Personnel Mines (APM’s), Swarup said, adding that India believes that the availability of militarily effective alternative technologies that are also cost-effective can help facilitate the goal of the complete elimination of APMs.

India also supports the efforts of the UN Mine Action Service (UNMAS), UN Development Programme and other agencies which have been working in conflict zones across the world. The UNMAS’s mine action has remained pivotal to the safety and security of our peacekeepers, he said.

Swarup added that India has enacted the Right of Persons with Disability Act, 2016 which addresses the concerns of persons with disabilities, including landmine survivors.&nbsp;

Security forces in the state of Jammu and Kashmir have suffered 10 casualties in the last seven days while eliminating four terrorists in two districts of Anantnag and Pulwama.&nbsp;

Army's Srinagar-based spokesperson, while confirming the killing of two terrorists, said, "Sajjad was the one who managed the vehicle for Pulwama attack on February 14," adding that Tauseef was his handler.

Jammu and Kashmir Police, while giving details about the slain, said that "as per the material evidence collected during the course of the investigation, it was learned that Maruti Eco vehicle used for carrying out the blast in Lethpora was owned by one Sajad Bhat of Marhama. As the news of &nbsp;Sajad’s involvement spread, he escaped and joined the proscribed terror outfit JeM."

In the morning, two Indian army soldiers succumbed to death at Army's 92 base hospital in Srinagar. They were injured in a Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) attack on a Hardened ALS vehicle carrying army men in Arihal area of Pulwama district. Although the police said 6 army men were hurt, sources say at least 9 of them suffered injuries.&nbsp;

Sources in the police said that Sajad was also involved in Monday's IED attack in Pulwama.&nbsp;

On the same day, Major Ketan Sharma died <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/jammu-and-kashmir-pulwama-attack-key-conspirator-killed-in-anantnag-encounter-228205">fighting terrorists in Anantnag</a> while another Major rank officer and two other jawans suffered injuries, they are undergoing treatment. One foreign terrorist was also eliminated in the encounter.&nbsp;

On June 12, terrorists carried out a suicide attack on security forces deployed at KP road in Anantnag district, killing 5 CRPF personnel and injuring four others including a police Inspector Arshad Khan, who later succumbed to his injuries at AIIMS New Delhi. One foreign terrorist was also shot dead while he was firing at the security forces.&nbsp;

First, on February 14, a Maruti ECO car was used by a local Jaish terrorist to target security forces convoy which resulted in the killing of over 40 CRPF men. The incident triggered tension in the sub-continent as both India and Pakistan indulged in a dogfight.&nbsp;

After Pulwama, yet another suicide attack was attempted in Banihal area in Ramban district on a CRPF convoy which was moving towards Jammu. According to sources, the attacker, at the final moment, changed his mind and left the car. The vehicle blasted without causing any major damage. Police later arrested the terrorist and his other associates in Kashmir.&nbsp;

Arihal VBIED attack was the third such incident in J&amp;K. This has raised an alarm in the security establishment, who were successful in minimizing collateral damage in the encounters.&nbsp;
