In Pakistan, nearly 128.5 million people have been registered as voters for the general elections which will be held on February 8, as per the latest data.&nbsp;

This number of people registered as voters constitutes nearly half of its population.&nbsp;

As per reports, women in some regions of Pakistan are barred from voting even though the country has the fifth-highest number of registered voters globally, with only India, Indonesia, the United States, and Brazil leading ahead.&nbsp;

The 60-year-old former headmistress Naeem Kausir as well as her seven daughters, six of whom have already been to college, are not allowed to vote by their family's male elders, just like other women in her town.

"Whether by her husband, father, son or brother, a woman is forced. She lacks the autonomy to make decisions independently," said Kausir, who was covering her face using a veil.&nbsp;

"These men lack the courage to grant women their rights," said the widow, while speaking to AFP.

Even though voting is a constitutional right for all adults present in Pakistan, a patriarchal system is still dominant in some rural areas of the socially conservative country as the male village elders wield significant influence on their communities.

In Dhurnal, a village in Punjab which is home to thousands of people, men give different reasons for the ban on voting for more than 50 years.

"Several years ago, during a period of low literacy rates, a council chairman decreed that if men went out to vote, and women followed suit, who would manage the household and childcare responsibilities," said Malik Muhammad, the village council's member.

"This disruption, just for one vote, was deemed unnecessary," he added.&nbsp;

Shopkeeper Muhammad Aslam has claimed that the ban has been protecting women from "local hostilities" regarding politics. Meanwhile, while speaking to AFP it was simply down to "tradition".

The new application aims to address the gender imbalance in housework and will log the hours spent by a family member performing household chores. 
 
Spain's minister for gender equality and domestic violence Angela Rodriguez said that her department working on the development of the free application. 
 
The minister stated that the application would enable women and men to log the number of hours they are spending in the house doing the chores.

The government is planning to release the application in the summer which will be launched as part of its 'co-responsibility plan'. “We women spend more time on domestic tasks than men,” said Rodriguez said, The Times reported. 
 
The minister was addressing a conference in Geneva which was discussing discrimination against women. A report was presented by the minister on women's rights in Spain at the convention. 
 
Rodriguez said that around half of the women who participated in a survey carried out by Spain's National Statistics Institute stated the majority of their household chores are performed by them. 
 
Comparatively, less than 15 per cent of men stated that they did the maximum house chores. 
 
The disparity in the division of housework has led to legal rows in Spain. In April 2017, a man was ordered to pay his ex-wife over €23,000 (almost $25,000) by a court in Cantabria for the household chores she did in their six years of marriage. 
 
Earlier this year, a businessman was ordered by a court in Velez-Malaga to pay his ex-wife €204,624.86 (around $220,318) for performing unpaid domestic labour in 25 years of their marriage based on the minimum wage. 
 
Now, the companies are bidding to lead the new project hoping that the application will soon be developed in the months ahead.

Five women came forward in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, accusing five men — belonging to the same family — of marrying them after luring them under a false pretence of taking them to the United Kingdom, Pak media reported.

According to The Nation, victims spilt the beans on marriage scams being run in Pakistan's Mirpur where accused British nationals woo girls into marriage promising a great life abroad.

The victims' families were also duped by these British-Pakistani nationals, as revealed at a recent press conference held at the Kashmir Press Club in Mirpur.

According to those addressing the press conference, an entire gang of British-Pakistani nationals led by Mumtaz, also known as 'Taja Pehlwan', targetted young girls, especially in Mirpur. Mumtaz himself developed intimate relationships with some of these girls, assuring them good life abroad if they married him.

At least 20 girls were reportedly targeted by this group. The men used to marry them and then shoot intimate videos of their wedding nights. Later, these girls were threatened by their respective spouses with the release of these videos online.

Some of these Pakistani men even refused to take their wives abroad and would have several wives at a time and if any of them sought divorce, they would be charged with false cases of theft. &nbsp;

This way, Mumtaz managed to marry seven girls, Anzar married five and Muhammad married three. Two of Mumtaz's family members were also involved in this marriage scam.

The girls, after a long period of torture and sexual abuse, finally came out in open and narrated their ordeal at the press conference.

The accused are currently absconding. Victims also revealed that Mumtaz is heading a drug-peddling gang with the support of his nephews Muhammad Ali and Anzar Ali.

The girls said they were forced to participate in illegal drug operations too and urged parents to be careful about such human trafficking attempts.
