Talking about Guru Dutt, Shabana Azmi shared, “He was very shy and would speak very little. I used to find him extremely attractive but I would just sort of be in and out of the room.”</p>

<p>She further added, “My father said something really amazing. It’s very strange in those days, and in fact, it has started happening now again, you would imagine when a song is being written, a song as beautiful as ‘Waqt Ne Kia Kya Hasi Sitam’ or ‘Bichhre Sabhi Baari Baari’, you would imagine that the words would have been written first and then after that, it would be set to tune. But it wasn’t like that. First, the tune would be made, and then the words would be written. It would be written to the tune. So my father Kaifi Azmi always said it was like ‘as if you first dig a grave and then find a corpse that can fit into that grave. So sometimes the legs come out. Sometimes the head comes out. But people started giving me work because they felt that I was able to dig. He could fit it. I was able to fit corpses into the right grave.’ So that was the thing.”</p>

Abba said that Guru Dutt had a very, very keen ear for music. See he didn’t know the language (Urdu) very well. There was something quite magical about what he wanted. It’s very interesting because SD Barman is also not known for his understanding of the Urdu language. Neither is Guru Dutt. But then look at the wonderful thing that came out of that era.”</p>

<p>"He gave me a beautiful smile and started to leave. A few seconds later, he turned and stared at my shirt. I looked at his. I realised he was wearing my shirt and I was wearing his. The washerman had interchanged them. We had a hearty laugh and embraced each other. We were to be friends for all times," recalled Anand.&nbsp;</p>

Post that incident, the two started spending a lot of time together on the sets. They would often visit each others' homes, and Dutt's mother would treat Anand to home delicacies. Dev Anand admitted that Guru Dutt was privy to his affair with Suraiya- a love story that was cut short due to familial pressure.&nbsp;<br />

"Often, he’d bring his camera with him and photograph me in Pali Hill, at a gold club that doesn’t exist anymore. Guru was fond of taking pictures, of making pictures. He was hardworking and intelligent. Later, I discovered he was also fond of acting. But I don’t think he was a great actor. He was a better director. He used to waste a lot of footage," said Anand in the interview.&nbsp;<br />

Dutt and Anand even made promises to each other that if Anand ever produced a film, he would take Dutt as the director and if he directed a film, Anand would be his leading hero.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Lajmi was born to a poet father and a poly-linguistic writer mother in Kolkata in 1932. She was a self-taught artist with a keen interest in classical dance. Over the decades, she held several exhibitions at international art galleries in Paris, London and Netherlands.&nbsp;</p>

<p>NGMA described Ms Lajmi as an "unparalleled watercolourist". Through her work, she usually narrated a layered history of the modern Indian woman in the decades that followed Independence.&nbsp;<br />

Lajmi's daughter, Kalpana Lajmi was also a well known Indian filmmaker who had made award-winning films like 'Rudali' and 'Daman'. Kalpana Lajmi passed away in 2018 due to multiple illnesses. Lalitha Lajmi's son, Devdas, reportedly live in the US.<br />

She was a self-taught artist with a keen interest in classical dance. Over the decades, she held several exhibitions at international art galleries in Paris, London and Netherlands. NGMA described Ms Lajmi as an "unparalleled watercolourist". Through her work, she usually narrated a layered history of the modern Indian woman in the decades that followed Independence. Lajmi's daughter, Kalpana Lajmi was also a well known Indian filmmaker who had made award-winning films like 'Rudali' and 'Daman'. Kalpana Lajmi passed away in 2018 due to multiple illnesses. Lalitha Lajmi's son, Devdas, reportedly live in the US. In recent years, Lalitha Lajmi played a small cameo in Aamir Khan starrer 'Tare Zameen Par', as the chief guest for the intra-school art competition.

<p>To mark late actor-director Guru Dutt's 97th birth anniversary, filmmaker R Balki paid homage to the legend and his classic 'Kaagaz Ke Phool'&nbsp;by sharing a new teaser of his upcoming film 'Chup: Revenge of the Artist'. The film stars Dulquer Salmaan, Shreya Dhanwanthary and Sunny Deol in pivotal roles.</p>

<p>In the short clip, Salmaan is seen making a bouquet of flowers from paper as a reference to Dutt's 1959 classic film. The movie's memorable song 'Waqt Ne Kiya'&nbsp;can be seen playing&nbsp;in the background.</p>

<p>In the next scene, Salmaan is seen offering&nbsp;the paper bouquet to Dhanwanthary's character who replies, "Guru Dutt ke birthday pe 'Kaagaz Ke Phool' (Flower made of papers on Guru Dutt's birthday)".</p>

<p>The teaser also shows Sunny Deol's character in its intense look. In the end, as Dhanwanthary points out that Dutt was criticised for 'Kaagaz Ke Phool', Deol's character reacts angrily and shouts, "Chup".</p>

<p>Guru Dutt's film 'Kaagaz Ke Phool' was strongly criticised when it was released. It told the story of once-renowned film director Suresh Sinha (played by Guru Dutt) whose life goes for a toss after he loses his daughter Pammi in a custody battle and gets estranged from his wife Shanti.</p>

<p>"Should we be more sensitive to an artist's work or should the artists be less sensitive about what is being written about their work,"&nbsp;Balki had said in a statement.</p>

<p>After the success of Tchaikovsky's 'Swan Lake' multi-city tour, non-profit film society Navrasa Duende is hosting the third edition of its classic movie festival at the Siri Fort Auditorium.</p>

<p>Dedicated to iconic filmmaker Satyajit Ray, the festival opened with his national award winning 'Pather Panchali' on June 22.</p>

<p>"World movies represent the best integration of all forms of science, arts, history, geography and literature in a way that entertains people... We strongly believe that India has earned its position on the world map of world cinema because of Ray's invaluable contribution," Dinesh Singh, founder, Navrasa Duende, said.</p>

<p>Over the weekend, the festival will showcase films such as 'My Fair Lady' by George Cukor, 'Night Train' by Jerzy Kawalerowicz, 'Viridiana' by Luis Buñuel, and 'Little Girl from Hanoi' by Hai Ninh.<br />

The event will conclude with 'La Dolce Vita' by Federico Fellini on June 30.</p>
