<p>The Oscar-winning actor will be honoured for her role in filmmaker Pablo Larain's "Maria", about the popular American-born Greek opera singer Maria Callas, the Gotham Film &amp; Media Institute, which organises the award gala annually, said in a statement.</p>

<p>The awards will be held on December 2 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.</p>

<p>“Like the legendary figure she portrays, Angelina Jolie transcends mere performance to craft something extraordinary. Her interpretation captures both Maria Callas’s complexity as an artist and the cultural resonance that defines an icon,” said Jeffrey Sharp, Executive Director of The Gothams.</p>

<p>“We are thrilled to celebrate what is truly one of Ms. Jolie’s career-defining performances in the final installment of Pablo Larrain’s magnificent trilogy," he added.</p>

<p>Written by Steven Knight,<em> Maria</em>&nbsp;follows Maria Callas, one of the most iconic performers of the 20th century as she retreats to Paris after a glamorous and tumultuous life in the public eye.</p>

<p>The Netflix film, which had its world premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, reimagines the legendary soprano in her final days as the diva reckons with her identity and life.</p>

<p>The movie also features Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Haluk Bilginer, and Kodi Smit-McPhee in supporting roles.</p>

The entertainment industry isn’t immune to this festering disease. The Duke, John Wayne, famously said of Native Americans, ‘I don’t feel we did wrong in taking this great country away from them. There were great numbers of people who needed new land and the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves.’”</p>

Filmmakers, on the other hand, strive — this is where I came in and I saw that they edited all that,” he said.</p>

<p>“So I’m going to say these things but to Apple and thank them all that. Gotham, blah blah blah, but I don’t feel like thanking them at all for what they did. How dare they do that, actually. But now I will go to: Accepting the award for <em>‘Killers of the Flower Moon’</em>…,” he said.&nbsp;</p>

It really means the world to receive it with my debut set in New York City, a city I live in and love deeply.” She was joined on the stage by two of the film’s stars, Greta Lee and John Magaro.</p>

<p>For the unversed, Gotham Awards are usually attuned to recognising independent films. It recently removed the cap of a $35 million budget for potential nominees so more films could participate.&nbsp;</p>

<p>'Keep shining your light on us', said the wife of late Hollywood star Chadwick Boseman, Taylor Simone, as she came out in public and opened up for the first time since his death. Chadwick Boseman posthumously received the Actor Tribute honor at the Gotham Awards on Monday, and&nbsp;Simone gave a moving speech celebrating his legacy.</p>

<p>"He was the most honest person I'd ever met because he didn't just stop at speaking the truth: he actively searched for it in himself and those around him and in the moment," she said in a virtual speech. "The truth can be a very easy thing for the self to avoid, but if one does not live in truth then it's impossible to live in line with the divine purpose for your life. And so it became how he lived his life, day in and out. Imperfect but determined."<br />

<p>"'A vessel to be poured into and out of,' he said. He harnessed the power of letting go and letting God's love shine through," she continued. "He realized that when one is able to recognize that when their strength does not come from themself, they rarely mess up. That's what he was doing when he was acting. [He] was not merely telling a story or reading lines on a page, but modeling a path to true fulfillment."<br />
