The Israeli army said on Tuesday (Nov 12) that four of its soldiers have been killed in the northern Gaza Strip.

The IDF said in a statement that all four "fell during combat in the northern Gaza Strip" on Monday, bringing the total number of Israeli soldiers killed in the Palestinian territory since the start of ground operations in October last year to 376.

The slain troops were named 20-year-old Staff Sergeant Orr Katz, 21-year-old Nave Yair Asulin, 21-year-old Gary Lalhruaikima Zolat, and 20-year-old Ofir Eliyahu, Times of Israel reported.&nbsp;

The killing of soldiers came just after Gaza's civil defence agency said that at least 14 people were killed in Israeli strikes on the Palestinian territory.

Qatar's foreign ministry on Saturday (Nov 9) confirmed that the nation has paused its role as a key mediator between Israel and Hamas. Citing a lack of “seriousness” from both parties to achieve a ceasefire and hostage release deal, Qatar said it had warned both Israel and Hamas “10 days ago”. The nation has also revealed its conditions for the resumption of the vital talks.

<h2>A warning ignored?</h2>

According to Qatari foreign ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari, “Qatar notified the parties 10 days ago, during the last attempts to reach an agreement, that it would stall its efforts to mediate between Hamas and Israel if an agreement was not reached in that round”.

Israel bombarding last hospital in north, says Gaza health ministry

An Israeli airstrike in northern Gaza on Monday (November 04) night killed at least 20 people, most of whom were women and children, claimed Palestinian authorities on Tuesday.

The strike hit a residence in Beit Lahiya, a town close to Israel’s border, where several families who had been displaced were taking shelter, said local media reports.

The Israeli military said that the target was a weapons storage site used by a militant. They added that “numerous steps were taken to mitigate the risk of harming civilians.”

According to the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry’s emergency services, the victims included eight women and six children. Additional airstrikes across Gaza on Tuesday morning killed another 10 people, health officials confirmed.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) have ordered a full evacuation of Beit Lahiya, along with the nearby town of Beit Hanoun and the densely populated Jabaliya refugee camp.

In a seperate development, over 100 patients, including children with trauma and chronic illnesses, will be transported from Gaza in a rare evacuation from the conflict-affected area, a World Health Organization (WHO) official confirmed on Tuesday.

“These are ad hoc measures. What we have requested repeatedly is a sustained medevac (medical evacuation) outside of Gaza,” stated Rik Peeperkorn, the WHO’s representative for the Occupied Palestinian Territory, noting that 12,000 individuals were still in need of transfer.

The patients will be part of a large convoy passing through the Kerem Shalom crossing into Israel before flying to the United Arab Emirates. From there, some will continue their journey to Romania, he added.

Eli Feldstein, an official from Israeli Prime Minister&nbsp;Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, has been revealed as the main suspect in the “serious security leaks case”.

Four Israelis, including the official, have been arrested in connection with the serious security leaks case.

According to a ruling published Sunday (Nov 3) by Rishon Lezion Magistrate Court head Menahem Mizrahi, Feldstein, who has served as a spokesperson in the Prime Minister’s Office, is accused of divulging top-secret information with national security implications to European media outlets.&nbsp;

The names of three other suspects remain gagged by the court, but it confirmed that they were connected to the defence establishment.

The court said, “The investigation began after significant suspicions arose in the Shin Bet and IDF, including as a result of media publications, that secret and sensitive intelligence information was taken from the IDF and removed illegally, sparking concerns of serious harm to national security and a danger to the sources of the information. As a result, the damage could have been done to the ability of defence bodies to achieve the goal of freeing the hostages [held in Gaza].”

How Will US Elections Affect Wars in Gaza And Ukraine?

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has raised grave concerns, warning that without international intervention, Israel could engage in the "ethnic cleansing" of Gaza.

Guterres's warning comes amid escalating casualties in Gaza. Most recently, on Tuesday (Oct 29) a fatal strike in Beit Lahiya left 93 dead, including many children. This attack is one of several incidents classified by the UN as "mass casualty incidents" in Gaza in the past week.

The bombing in Beit Lahiya has drawn condemnation worldwide. The US described it as "horrifying," and France called for an end to Israel's siege of northern Gaza.

Adding to the crisis, humanitarian aid deliveries to Gaza have reportedly hit an all-time low since the beginning of the conflict, stoking fears and allegations that the situation may be intended to drive Palestinians out of northern Gaza.

<h2>"Ethnic cleansing" already underway</h2>

Speaking to the Guardian on the sidelines of Colombia's COP16 biodiversity conference, the UN chief commended the Palestinians for their resilience and said that "ethnic cleansing" has been prevented this long because of the people's refusal to succumb.

"The intention might be for the Palestinians to leave Gaza, for others to occupy it," said Guterres.

"We will do everything possible to help them remain there and to avoid ethnic cleansing that might occur if there is not strong determination from the international community," he added.

However, just last week, Jordan's Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, told US Secretary of State Antony Blinken that he believes "ethnic cleansing" was already underway. However, the Israeli military has denied allegations of systematically forcing Palestinians out of Gaza.

UN humanitarian affairs agency, OCHA, in a daily bulletin, said: "Only two … out of 20 health service points and two hospitals, Kamal Adwan and Al-Awda, remain functional, although partially, hampering the delivery of life-saving health services."

The agency's data indicates that 80 per cent of Gaza's population is currently without food rations: "Across the Gaza Strip, October has seen very limited food distribution due to severe supply shortages".

This decision exacerbates an already dire humanitarian situation, with aid organizations warning that thousands of vulnerable individuals could be left without critical support. Israeli soldiers captured around 100 suspected Hamas militants during a raid in Kamal Adwan hospital in northern Gaza, the military said on Monday.

Gaza health officials and Hamas have denied any militant presence at the hospital, which Israeli forces stormed on Friday and left on Saturday.

"The soldiers apprehended approximately 100 terrorists from the compound, including terrorists who attempted to escape during the evacuation of civilians. Inside the hospital, they found weapons, terror funds, and intelligence documents," the military said.

Gaza's health ministry said the troops had detained dozens of male medical staffers and damaged the hospital, which had already been struggling to operate with heavy Israeli raids in the area.

"A few of the fully identified terrorists disguised themselves as medical staff so we didn't have any alternative but to check the medical staff as well," a military official told journalists in an online briefing.

Footage circulated by Gaza's health ministry on Saturday - which Reuters could not immediately verify - showed damage to several buildings after the Israeli forces withdrew.

The military official said that troops had caused limited damage to the hospital when entering it and that soldiers also had to destroy what he described as "dual use" equipment, like oxygen tanks, which if detonated could have harmed anyone at the complex.

Medical staffers refused to evacuate the hospital or leave their patients unattended. Hundreds of displaced Palestinians had also been sheltering there.

"They evacuated all those who were sheltering here...They separated men from women and made two queues, it was very humiliating for our men since they took them without clothes and nothing to cover with," said Mayssoun Alian, a hospital nurse.

Gaza medics said at least two children had died inside the intensive care unit after Israeli fire hit the generators and oxygen station in the facility on Friday.

The military said civilians at the hospital were kept safe, despite heavy fighting near the complex. Fuel, medical equipment and blood units had been provided to the hospital and electricity and oxygen supply had been ensured, it said.
