G20 Summit in Delhi: The Indian&nbsp;capital Delhi is all decked up to welcome foreign delegates for the G20 Summit. The global event will be held on September 9-10 at the newly-inaugurated Bharat Mandapam, formerly Pragati Maidan, chaired by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. India assumed the G20 presidency on 1 December 2022 and has since organised almost 200 meetings across 60 cities. It will pass on the presidency to Brazil on 1 December 2023.&nbsp;

Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the first foreign delegate to arrive in Delhi for the G20 Summit. He was welcomed by Minister of State Health SP Singh Baghel on Thursday (Sept 7).

Next, the Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Dr Ngozi Okonjo-lweala arrived in Delhi on Thursday night to participate in the G20 Summit.

According to the White House, US President Joe Biden will arrive in Delhi on Friday evening (Sept 08). He will be following all COVID-19 guidelines of the&nbsp;Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) during his visit to India.

The Canadian PM Justin Trudeau will also be arriving on Friday evening. He will be received by MoS Rajeev Chandrasekhar.&nbsp;

Chinese President Xi Jinping will be missing the G20 Summit, however, Chinese Premier Li Qiang is expected to land around 7:45 pm on Friday.&nbsp;

G20 Summit traffic restrictions: With preparations in full swing for the G20 Summit in New Delhi this week on Sept 9 and 10, the Delhi government tightened security and issued a notification. The summit will take place at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

The gazette notification issued on Monday (Sept 4) said&nbsp;commercial vehicles, inter-state buses and local city buses such as Delhi Transport Corporate (DTC) and Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) buses will not operate on Mathura Road, Bhairon Road, Purana Quila Road and inside the Pragati Maidan tunnel from the intervening night of September 7 and 8 to 10.

The national capital will be considered a "Controlled Zone-I" from Sept 8 morning to Sept 10, 11:59 pm.

Officials said that residents, authorised vehicles like housekeeping, waste management and hospitals will be allowed to travel on a C-Hexagon, Indian Gate and other roads.

The notification reads, "Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs), Medium Goods Vehicles (MGVs) and Light Goods Vehicles (LGVs) will not be allowed to enter Delhi from 21:00 hours on 07.09.2023 to 23:59 hours on 10.09.2023."

However, vehicles carrying essential commodities such as milk, vegetables and medical supplies carrying a valid "no-entry permission" will be allowed to enter the national capital.&nbsp;

"No TSR and taxi will be allowed to enter or ply in New Delhi district from 05:00 hours of 09.09.2023 to 23:59 hours on 10.09.2023."

But taxis carrying bona fide residents and tourists having valid bookings in hotels located inside the New Delhi district and intending to go to the New Delhi railway station will be allowed to ply on the road network inside the New Delhi district.

G20 Summit in Delhi: Government imposes traffic restrictions in national capital from Sept 7 to 10

G20 Summit Guidelines: With preparations in full swing for the G20 Summit taking place in New Delhi from September 9&nbsp;to 10, authorities have tightened security and issued several guidelines regarding the restrictions and traffic regulations in the city for those particular days. There will be no lockdown in the city and all necessary shops like pharmacies and&nbsp;vegetable&nbsp;and grocery shops will remain open.

The summit is scheduled to take place at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan on September 9 and 10. The roads near the locations will be closed as the delegates will be visiting Rajghat and NGMA (National Gallery of Modern Art).

Here's what is open and what will be closed during the G20 Summit this week:

Traffic Restrictions:

The Delhi Police issued a compiled plan to ensure smooth movement of traffic, including restrictions and diversions in the national capital, commencing from September 07.

Vehicles won't be&nbsp;allowed on Mathura Road beyond Ashram Chowk, Bhairon Marg, and Purana Qila Road. Restrictions are also likely in other areas, including Geeta Colony to Shanti Van Chowk, Vikas Marg to ITO, Jawaharlal Nehru Marg to Rajghat Chowk, and Minto Road to Guru Nanak Chowk.

Entry of heavy vehicles, except those carrying essential goods, will also be restricted during the period of the summit. Commuters have been advised to carry all updated and appropriate car documents.

A virtual desk will be present for the citizens to provide necessary information about road diversions, closures, traffic, and other travel advisories in the city.

Buses, Taxis and Autorickshaws:

All interstate buses will be allowed to enter Delhi. City buses will run on Ring Road and towards the borders of the city.&nbsp;However, bus services will not be available in the New Delhi Area.&nbsp;

No taxis and autorickshaws will be allowed to ply in New Delhi from 5:00 am on Sept 9 to 11:59 pm on Sept 10. However, taxis already located in the city will be allowed to ply on the road network of the city.&nbsp;

Metro Operations:

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation&nbsp;(DMRC) has withdrawn its restrictions for&nbsp;39 metro stations. The&nbsp;letter regarding the change reads,&nbsp;"The request letter for the closure of gates of 39 Metro Stations which was made vide this office letter…dated 02.09.2023 is hereby withdrawn administrative grounds."

The Indian Express reported that Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Surender Singh Yadav has encouraged&nbsp;the&nbsp;public to use metro services. All stations would be operational, with the exception of the Supreme Court metro station, which would depend on security requirements.

He added that certain gates at sensitive areas could be temporarily closed, due to security restrictions, but this will last for only 10-15 minutes. Otherwise, operations will continue smoothly.&nbsp;

All educational institutions and other commercial establishments like banks in Delhi will also remain closed.

According to the advisory, liquor stores in the New Delhi Police District will be closed from September 8 to 10.
