On Friday, the suspense surrounding the title of Brad Pitt's upcoming film, shot at several Formula 1 racetracks around the world, ended as the makers announced that the movie will be titled (drum rolls...) F1. The film will hit theatres in June next year.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, whose Top Gun: Maverick grossed $1.49 billion worldwide, F1 is being filmed in cooperation with F1 teams and drivers. Warner Bros. Pictures will be distributing the film in cinemas.&nbsp;

The makers also shared that a teaser of the film will be shared on Sunday, right before the British Grand Prix at Silverstone where filming has been taking place.

While sharing the first look poster of the film on Instagram, the makers wrote in the caption, "Finally, official. Brad Pitt stars in F1, coming to cinemas Summer 2025. Sneak Peek this Sunday at the Formula 1 British Grand Prix. The plot sees Pitt, who is 60 years old in real life, star as a former driver making a Formula One comeback alongside Damson Idris, who plays his rookie teammate, at the fictional APXGP team." George Russell sneaked in a top podium finish at the Austrian Grand Prix after Max Verstappen and Lando Norris dramatically collided at the fag end of the race to gift the position to the Mercedes driver. McLaren's Oscar Piastri&nbsp;came in home P2 while Ferrari's Carlos Sainz held off Lewis Hamilton to secure the final podium position.&nbsp;

It was a disappointing home race for Red Bull and championship leader Verstappen who&nbsp;had to settle for the fifth position after being handed a 10-second penalty for allegedly making late moves under braking. Meanwhile, Norris was forced to retire after the back-and-forth battle with Verstappen led to a destroyed right rear for the McLaren car.&nbsp;

The incident transpired on uphill Turn 3 with seven laps to go in the 71-lap contest. Norris went to the left of Verstappen to take the racing line but the front right of Norris collided with the rear left of Verstappen. However, afterwards, the Dutch driver could be seen veering towards the left which caused significant damage to Norris' car.&nbsp;

Prior to the collision, Norris also received a five-second penalty for&nbsp;traversing track limits which ultimately counted for nothing as he had to retire the car.&nbsp;

German authorities said Monday (Jun 23) they had arrested a father and son on suspicion of trying to blackmail the family of the former Formula One driver Michael Schumacher.

The suspects contacted family representatives claiming to have files the Schumachers "would not want to have published", prosecutors in the western German city of Wuppertal said in a statement.

"To stop the files being published online, the perpetrators demanded a payment in the millions," the prosecutors said.

The suspects transferred "individual files" to the family to show they had access to sensitive documents, prosecutors said.&nbsp;

The seven-time world champion has not been seen in public since he suffered a serious brain injury in a 2013 skiing accident in the French Alps.

Investigators in Germany were tipped off about the case by authorities in Switzerland, where Schumacher has been cared for at the family home since the accident.

"Technical measures" made it possible to trace the alleged extortionists to Wuppertal, they said.

The two suspects, who were on probation in another case, were arrested by police on June 19 in a supermarket parking lot in Gross-Gerau, south of Frankfurt, prosecutors said.

Schumacher's family last month won a legal action against a German tabloid magazine which printed a fake AI interview with the 55-year-old German former race driver.

Magazine Die Aktuelle had in April 2023 claimed it had an interview with the motorsport legend but the article in fact contained quotes which had been computer-generated.

"On this particular one, I have instructed to go full force with police inquiring it, researching the IP address, researching the phone number, because online abuse in that way needs to stop. People can't hide behind their phones, or their computers, and abuse teams or drivers in a way like this," he added.

Hamilton was also asked about the same at Thursday's Media Day to which he replied: &nbsp;"We're all in the same boat, we're all working hard together and we all want to finish on a high. We owe that to our long-term relationship."

Hamilton, however, said that he had not yet seen the mail which was sent last week.

In the ongoing season, Mercedes is fourth on the constructor's championship with 124 points. As for Hamilton, he's eighth on driver's standings with 55 points.

"That [an upgrade not working] makes life hard, because the moment you stop trusting your tools, you have to backtrack, and you lose loads of time. Time is your biggest friend, losing it is your worst enemy," he added.&nbsp;

Quizzed if witnessing Red Bull struggle and fall back into the pack had given Mercedes a spark of excitement, Allison said: "Everyone always loves other people's misery in this game."

While Mercedes started the season poorly, there have been signs of resurgence with George Russell finishing on the podium in Montreal in what was a rain-affected race.&nbsp;

After being beaten in two of the previous three races, the series leader and three-time champion bounced back to his competitive best, with the aid of excellent calls from his team in a tactical race, to win by 3.879 seconds ahead of McLaren's Lando Norris.

Verstappen scored his third consecutive triumph at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and the 60th win of his career, having started second on the grid and, at times, riding his luck in a dramatic contest featuring two Safety Car interventions.

"That was a pretty crazy race and a lot of things were happening,"said Verstappen. "We had to keep on top of our calls and as a team we did really well today. We remained calm and we pitted at the right time."

With both Ferraris failing to finish – just two weeks after Charles Leclerc claimed an emotional win in his home Monaco Grand Prix – Verstappen's success lifted him 56 points clear of the Monegasque driver in the title race.

Mercedes driver George Russell secured the pole position at the Canadian Grand Prix on Saturday (Jun 8) despite Red Bull's Max Verstappen finishing Q3 with the same time. It was only the second instance in F1 history that two drivers could not be separated after finishing the session with identical timings upto three decimal&nbsp;points.&nbsp;

Russell was first out in the qualifying&nbsp;lap and set a time of 1:12:000 which was matched by Verstappen who took to the circuit after him. The rules dictate that the driver who sets the best lap time first, gets the honour of starting the race at the top of the grid.&nbsp;

"If two or more drivers set identical times during Q1, Q2 or Q3 or SQ1, SQ2 or SQ3, priority will be given to the driver who set it first," reads the&nbsp;fourth paragraph of Article 39.4 of the FIA F1 Sporting Regulations.&nbsp;

The last time such an unlikely coincidence took place was in Jerez 1997 when Michael Schumacher, Jacques Villenuve and Heinz-Herald Fretzen finished qualifying with identical timings of 1:21.072.

At the time,&nbsp;Villeneuve secured the pole position and the next day went on to win the world championship after the well-known controversy with Schumacher.&nbsp;

<h2>'First step done'</h2>

Speaking after locking the front row position, an elated Russell said:&nbsp;"Amazing. It feels so good. So much hard work at the factory has gone into this and we said it in Monaco, we hope this is the start of something for our season, and I think it is. I've missed this feeling. Excited for tomorrow. First step done, but now obviously we've got our eyes on that win."

As for Red Bull, advisor Helmut Marko revealed that it was perhaps not warming up the tyres sufficiently that&nbsp;cost Verstappen the pole.&nbsp;

“I think we can be satisfied with this result, especially after the events in the second free practice.&nbsp;It was about how you warm up your tyres and I think the warm-up lap in Q3 was just too fast," said Marko.&nbsp;

The telemetry revealed that Russell was fast in straights and took the advantage in the third sector while Verstappen struggled on the kerbs.&nbsp;&nbsp;

When Hamilton's move to Ferrari was confirmed early this year, with him replacing Carlos Sainz, Leclerc revealed that he had contacted the Briton driver and is looking forward to working with him.

Speaking to F1.com, the 26-year-old had said, "Well, obviously these kind of deals are not finalised overnight, so it takes of course time. I was aware of those discussions before signing my [new] deal. It didn’t come out as a surprise after signing."

He added, "We’ve had discussions with Lewis, especially when everything was announced and official. We texted each other of course. As I said, Lewis is a great champion with a lot of experience and so much success. It’s always interesting to have a new team mate as you learn different ways of working and of driving. Even more so when my new team mate is a seven-time world champion."

"I could see him behind me and I am super-happy to win here today."

Norris said: "It's frustrating! This feels more painful. It hurts me to say so, but with one or two more laps I think I’d have had him."

Leclerc, whose podium finish for Ferrari in their heartland was acclaimed by masses of tifosi, said: "At least a podium! Of course, I wanted to win and I didn’t make it.

"They were incredibly quick at the end, but it’s looking good for us for the rest of the season. Monaco is going to be special."
