<p>Pulsars emit beams of electromagnetic radiation that rotate like cosmic lighthouses. When these beams cross our solar system, we observe periodic flashes of radiation, known as pulses.</p>

Dead star Vela Pulsar emits highest-energy gamma rays

<p>The solar energy adoption in India is entering "accelerating growth" phase, an analysis by two India-based Electricity Policy analysts in the UK-based energy think tank Ember said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Building adequate grid flexibility is the next key step in India’s clean power transition," the analysis added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The analysis cited 14th highlights of National Electricity Plan (NEP14) to point out that 66 per cet of share of energy generation growth in India will be met by solar and wind in FY 2022-32.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The world's most populous nation will also see 20 percentage point change in solar energy's share in India's total energy generation between FY 2022-32, it said.</p>

<h2><strong>What is working for India?</strong></h2>

<p>The analysis in Ember says that growth in electricity demand during the day had outpaced the growth in demand during the night, called non-solar hours.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Peak demand is now occurring during midday when solar generation is abundant. As a result, a larger portion of the increase in demand has aligned with the generation from solar sources," it said.</p>

<p>Between 2019 and 2023, the non-solar hour peak demand experienced an approximately 3.9 per cent year-on-year increase, while solar hour peak demand witnessed a ~5.4 per cent year-on-year rise, the analysis pointed out.&nbsp;</p>

The world's most populous nation will also see 20 percentage point change in solar energy's share in India's total energy generation between FY 2022-32, it said. "Peak demand is now occurring during midday when solar generation is abundant. As a result, a larger portion of the increase in demand has aligned with the generation from solar sources," it said. Between 2019 and 2023, the non-solar hour peak demand experienced an approximately 3.9 per cent year-on-year increase, while solar hour peak demand witnessed a ~5.4 per cent year-on-year rise, the analysis pointed out. It is pertinent to note that developed countries have failed to live up to their commitments on climate finance to mobilise $100 billion per year for climate action in the developing countries. <p>“Taurine abundance declines with age and reversal of this decline makes animals live longer and healthier lives,” said Dr Yadav adding, “At the end of the day, these findings should be relevant to humans.”</p>

<h2><strong>Testing taurine on middle-aged mice&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>The team's discovery led to testing taurine's effects on middle-aged mice, which revealed that the supplemented mice were healthier, showed signs of youthfulness, and exhibited improvements in various health markers such as bone density, muscle strength, memory, and immune system function.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Additionally, the taurine-supplemented mice lived longer, with males experiencing an average increase of 10 per cent&nbsp;and females 12 per cent, equivalent to three to four extra months or seven to eight human years.&nbsp;</p>

However, the study published in the journal&nbsp;<em>Advanced Materials</em>&nbsp;says we can use a broad range of inorganic, organic, and biological materials to capture it.</p>

<p>Essentially, the researchers have created a small-scale cloud that produces electricity. As long as the device includes holes smaller than&nbsp;100 nanometers, it can be used to generate electricity.&nbsp;</p>

India secures approval for second hydropower project in Nepal, strengthening bilateral energy cooperation

<p>In what may come as a huge breakthrough in sustainable energy development, a team of researchers at the Monash University in Melbourne have found a way to generate limitless electricity out of thin air. The scientists discovered a hydrogen-consuming enzyme from a common soil bacterium that uses the atmosphere as an energy source to generate electrical current.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Led by Monash’s Dr Rhys Grinter, PhD student Ashleigh Kropp, and Professor Chris Greening, from the Biomedicine Discovery Institute, the research findings were published in the new edition of the journal Nature.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Hydrogen gas scavenger</strong></h2>

<p>The enzyme discovered is called Huc (pronounced “Huck”) and is made by Mycobacterium smegmatis bacteria, allowing it to survive in harsh conditions.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“We’ve known for some time that bacteria can use the trace hydrogen in the air as a source of energy to help them grow and survive, including in Antarctic soils, volcanic craters, and deep in the ocean," said Professor Rhys Grinter.</p>

<p>Huc acts as a hydrogen gas scavenger, devouring the gas below atmospheric levels to produce its magic.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Huc is extremely effective. Unlike all other known enzymes and chemical catalysts, it uses hydrogen at amounts below atmospheric levels – as little as 0.00005 per cent of the air we breathe," added Grinter.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably,&nbsp;Mycobacterium smegmatis was discovered in 1985 by Sigmund&nbsp;Lustgarten, an Austrian doctor who was looking into skin diseases. The particular bacterium resides in the soil and is relatively unharmful - not causing any disease.&nbsp; It has been well-studied due to its use as a model&nbsp;for organism&nbsp;for tuberculosis.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Grinter explained that to separate Huc from&nbsp;M. smegmatis, they had to develop a series of new methods, which included growing the bacteria from scratch and later breaking them open and using chemistry to isolate the single component.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What next for Huc?</strong></h2>

<p>The scientists added that Huc can be stored for long periods without losing its ability to generate electricity. During the experiments, it was flash-frozen in liquid N2 and stored at −80 degrees Celsius with purification yielding 10–20 micrograms of the Huc complex.&nbsp;</p>

The scientists discovered a hydrogen-consuming enzyme from a common soil bacterium that uses the atmosphere as an energy source to generate electrical current. Led by Monash’s Dr Rhys Grinter, PhD student Ashleigh Kropp, and Professor Chris Greening, from the Biomedicine Discovery Institute, the research findings were published in the new edition of the journal Nature. Hydrogen gas scavenger The enzyme discovered is called Huc (pronounced “Huck”) and is made by Mycobacterium smegmatis bacteria, allowing it to survive in harsh conditions. “We’ve known for some time that bacteria can use the trace hydrogen in the air as a source of energy to help them grow and survive, including in Antarctic soils, volcanic craters, and deep in the ocean," said Professor Rhys Grinter. Huc acts as a hydrogen gas scavenger, devouring the gas below atmospheric levels to produce its magic. “Huc is extremely effective. Unlike all other known enzymes and chemical catalysts, it uses hydrogen at amounts below atmospheric levels – as little as 0.00005 per cent of the air we breathe," added Grinter. Notably, Mycobacterium smegmatis was discovered in 1985 by Sigmund Lustgarten, an Austrian doctor who was looking into skin diseases. The particular bacterium resides in the soil and is relatively unharmful - not causing any disease. It has been well-studied due to its use as a model for organism for tuberculosis. Grinter explained that to separate Huc from M. smegmatis, they had to develop a series of new methods, which included growing the bacteria from scratch and later breaking them open and using chemistry to isolate the single component. <p>According to the MEA, the pipeline has the ability to move 1 million MMTPA of high-speed diesel. It would initially provide high-speed diesel to seven districts in northern Bangladesh.</p>

<p>"International and national fossil fuel companies are making record revenues and need to take their share of responsibility," Birol said.</p>

<p>Global emissions from energy rose by 0.9% in 2022 to a record 36.8 billion tonnes, the IEA analysis showed.</p>

<p>Carbon dioxide emissions due to burning of coal grew by 1.6 per cent last year. This was in part due to many countries turning to more polluting fuel after Russian invasion of Ukraine and the subsequent energy crisis.</p>

<p>CO2 emissions from oil rose by 2.5% but remained below pre-pandemic levels, the report said.</p>

<p>Around half of the increase in oil-related emissions was due to a rise in air travel which was rebounding from a low during the pandemic.</p>
