In the documentary titled "The Great American Heist," filmmaker and past prankster Oobah Butler stated that he has a collection of discarded bottles of Amazon drivers' urine which is titled "Release” for selling on the e-commerce site. 
 
Butler stated that the drink emerged as the top seller in the "Bitter Lemon" category of Amazon and the product was made from bottles which he had found discarded near fulfilment centres of Amazon. 
 
Reacting to the story of “Release” being sold on the e-commerce site, a spokesperson of Amazon said that it was a "crude stunt" and added that no "genuine customer" bought the product. 
 
"Safety is a top priority for Amazon and we require all products offered in our store to comply with applicable laws and regulations," stated the spokesperson.

Speaking to WIRED, Butler said that it was "surprisingly easy" to purchase the product mentioned on the site and the algorithm of Amazon moved the product to the site's drinks category after he placed it in the "Refillable Pump Dispenser" category.

<h2>'Amazon delivery drivers forced to urinate in bottles'</h2>

He asked some of his friends to purchase the product and no item was even sold to a real customer, he said, while speaking to Insider. He added that 10 genuine customers did try to purchase the product on Amazon. Since then, Release has since been taken off the Amazon marketplace. 
 
"At the heart of Release Energy's story lies a dedication to empowering Amazon delivery drivers, unsung heroes who face immense pressures navigating impossibly demanding schedules," read a portion of the product description written on Release. 
 
Speaking to Insider, Butler said he decided to make the documentary and tried listing the product on Amazon to emphasise the impact the company has on society, which includes its workers who stated that they were forced to urinate in bottles so that they could meet strict deadlines.

Butler stated that he even worked undercover at a facility of Amazon in Coventry for three days before his cover blew up. He added that he spoke to some workers who said that they would be urinating in bottles to meet delivery deadlines of Amazon. 
 
However, Amazon said that a distorted picture of their process has been shown to the world.

This comes amid increasing scrutiny for the viral beverage brand which was launched last year.&nbsp;

<h2>About the ‘PRIME’ energy drink</h2>

‘PRIME’ energy drink was reported to be an instant hit following its launch by YouTube stars KSI and Logan Paul. The beverage in question contains 200 milligrams of caffeine per 12-ounce can (approximately 354.8 ml can) which is equal to six cans of Coca-Cola or nearly two Red Bulls, reported Reuters.&nbsp;

A warning on the company website says that the drink is not recommended for children under the age of 18, women who are pregnant or nursing, or individuals who are sensitive to caffeine.&nbsp;

However, the drink is particularly popular among children and has become somewhat of a status symbol. But amid concerns about its high levels of caffeine several schools in the US, the United Kingdom, and Australia have reportedly banned the drinks.&nbsp;

Logan Paul and KSI, who have a total of 48 million YouTube followers, also launched a caffeine-free PRIME Hydration drink&nbsp;last year. It was not until January this year that the company launched its caffeinated PRIME Energy drink which is also said to be sugar-free and vegan.&nbsp;

<h2>Concerns raised by Schumer&nbsp;</h2>

During a press conference, on Sunday in New York, Schumer alleged that the drink is being targeted towards children despite its high caffeine content. “Buyer and parents beware because it’s a serious health concern for the kids it so feverishly targets,” said the top Democrat.&nbsp;

Speaking about the drink’s high caffeine content he said, “This is an eye-popping level of caffeine for a young kid’s body.”&nbsp;

Schumer alleged that with the company’s “near identical” packaging and marketing of Prime Energy and its caffeine-free drink, parents have accidentally bought the “cauldron of caffeine” for their children.

“Because the product is billed as a hydration and sports drink in its other, near identical form, kids are likely to ingest cans of this stuff with the parents being unaware,” said the US Senate majority leader.&nbsp;

In an interview with CBS, Schumer also claimed that the company’s “main target” is&nbsp;“kids under 18,” adding that they “see it on their phones as they scroll, and then they actually have a need for it".

<h2>How has the company responded to these allegations?</h2>

In a statement to Hindustan Times, a PRIME representative said, “It is very important to make the distinction between the two products (PRIME Energy and PRIME Hydration) because they are vastly different. We started PRIME last year with the launch of Hydration, a healthier sports drink alternative that comes in a bottle.”&nbsp;

It added, “PRIME Energy, sold in a can, dropped in 2023 and contains a comparable amount of caffeine to other top-selling energy drinks, all falling within the legal limit of the countries it’s sold in. It complied with all FDA guidelines before hitting the market and states clearly on packaging, as well as in marketing materials, that it is an energy drink and is not made for anyone under the age of 18.”&nbsp;

The PRIME representative also spoke about how their brand’s “top priority” is consumer safety and they&nbsp;welcome discussions with the FDA or any organisations about the changes they suggest and feel are necessary for consumer safety, reported HT.&nbsp;

Blood tests, scans, and ECG readings revealed that he had both heart and kidney failure – with the kidney failure linked to a long-standing and previously undiagnosed condition.

“We report a case of severe biventricular heart failure potentially related to excessive energy drink consumption in a 21-year-old man,” the article's authors from Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust in London noted.

The student had no other medical history, but the cans he was drinking contained 160mg of caffeine each.

“When I was drinking up to four energy drinks per day, I suffered from tremors and heart palpitations, which interfered with my ability to concentrate on daily tasks and my studies at university,” the student said.

This is just one case report, but there have been several others as well as review articles that have highlighted mounting concerns about the potential cardiovascular system harms of energy drinks, note the authors.

Energy drinks are also known to raise blood pressure and can trigger heart rhythm abnormalities, say the authors, by way of an explanation for the published findings to date.
